Today, during Sony's E3 Presentation, Shenmue 3 started their kickstarter.

They launched it with a goal of 2 million dollars.

Within a half hour, they are already 1/7th of the way there, with 375,000 dollars earned.

Right now, there are only plans to bring it to PS4 and PC.

I'm ready.

Edit - Make it 1/4th of the way there. Up to nearly 500k already. I think people want this game.

Edit 2 - 1/3 within like an hour of the announcement. People really want it on their PS4.

Edit 3 - At about 900,000. Nearly halfway there. Oh my.

Edit 4 - It's gone beyond 1,000,000. It has 31 more days to get the other half.

Edit 5 - It's up to 2,000,000. It's official. There will be a Shenmue 3.

Shenmue 3 is definitely going to happen!

perhaps even past the stretch goals, just like Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

It's official. It got backed.

There will be a Shenmue 3. If the devs follow through.

This is a big deal to me since Shenmue is my 2nd favorite game of all time and I've been waiting nearly 15 years for the 3rd game to finally come out. I backed the kickstarter campaign within minutes of it going live lol.

It's ridiculous how quickly the campaign was funded. I think within 24 hours, they hit their $2 million goal! They're definitely going to be getting a pretty big budget for this game.

I've only got 1 complaint: It's on the Playstation 4 and I don't own one. I personally think that if it's being funded by the fans, they should have the right to choose which consoles it appears on and personally I think it should've been on all consoles. Of course this doesn't really take away from my excitement though since I'll now make it my goal to get a PS4 eventually, especially since there's also a Final Fantasy VII Remake coming out for it as well.

It's worth noting that they haven't said anything to the extent of "This will not come out on XBox" or anything similar. It will also be out on PC.

And to make it clear how quickly they got their funding... they got to their 2,000,000 dollar goal within NINE hours. Which is a Kickstarter record. (They also set the record for fastest one million).

Presently, it's at 2.7 million with 30 days left to go.

That's amazing and I don't see the records stopping either lol.

I'd like to point out how, due to this, you need 3 different consoles from 3 different companies to play the whole series.

Sega Dreamcast
Microsoft Xbox
PlayStation 4

So as somebody who owned all of these at some point, and never got to play them, I definitely hope Sony also funds an HD collection for the first two games.

Overall though, very excited to see this game coming, its been long awaited and everybody in gaming was hoping for this.

Oh, man... I didn't even think about that... I don't own a PS4 and my computer is old... Really, old... And not even made for gaming... Dang. Still excited though!

alexanyways : Yeah that kinda sucks. If Sony is co-funding it then it kinda seems dirty that fans have to also fund it because Sony will more than likely make a ton off of this game.

Yeah I actually pointed that out to a friend the fact that each game was released on a system of a different company. Now we just need the Nintendo Wii-U to get a prequel or spinoff title and that covers all 4 of the big gaming system companies lol.

SEGA still owns the rights to Shenmue 1 and 2 so if there was an HD release for either games, it'll be done by SEGA and would most likely be multi-platform.

I'm very excited for all of this though and I think that SEGA will definitely be working on an HD remake of Shenmue 1 and 2 based on the insane popularity of the Shenmue 3 kickstarter.

About HD releases of the first two... I wouldn't count on it.

Fortunately, the stretch goal to get the cutscenes or whatever into 3 should help people out who didn't get to play the first two. They reached it quickly, and the story shouldn't be too hard to follow for newbies to the series.
