well, there isnt much more to say than what is in the title. please vote and discuss, and dont just say 'guitar hero is better'. give your reasons as to why you think its better.

Is there really a difference, other than the playlist?

HUGE differences. just look at the guitars for one.



as you can see, the rockband guitar is far more realistic looking, its buttons dont have spaces in between them, and they have more buttons down closer to the body of the guitar for fingertapping through solo's. also, the rockband guitar has little brail like dots on its keys, while guitar hero has this thing that pops out of the middle key, which really begins to hurt your finger after playing 3 or 4 songs.

the gameplay is pretty much the same, but rockband's seems more practical, as opposed to guitar hero, that always has annoying little things that pop up on the screen that arent really needed. you can see the difference in what they look like:



that just shows what you normally see on screen. none of those pesky images that i mentioned above. guitar hero has some different multiplayer games, where if you hit certain notes you mess up your opponent, and a few other things, but that takes some of the realism away from it, but on the plus side (depending on how you look at it), it does add more of a video game element to it. i didnt personally like that feature, because i go best percentage and most note streaks for every song, and that makes it impossible to do so.

as for drums, im not really a drum player myself.. a little too hard to get the footpedal down lol. anyways, you can see a comparison of the drums

the above set will actually be like a real, electronic drumset, which i found to be really cool. now kids can practice their drums while having the volume turned down a little bit lol. it will definetly save a lot of headaches xD

anyways, those are my comparisons. if any guitar hero fans out there want to bring up some arguments, please do, because in case you cant tell, im a rockband guy, and i dont really want to run a biased poll here.

For the most part, I've enjoyed the playlists in Guitar Hero more than those in Rock Band (the rock/metal songs at the end of the games is what I'm comparing, because that is what I play the most often).

The thing that really helps Guitar Hero edge out Rock Band in my opinion is the artist-specific games that have been released. Don't get me wrong, I like the Beetles and understand everything they have done for the music industry, but I enjoy Van Halen more than the Beetles, and I ESPECIALLY like Metallica better.

In the end, Guitar Hero: Metallica won it for me

yea.. i screamed at my TV when Guitar Hero got Metallica my friend thought i was off my knocker xD

Rockband does have AC DC though, one of my favorite bands

Rock Band wins by a mile. The thing is, Guitar Hero ( as far as I know) has two instruments: Microphone and, obviously the guitar. This can bore some people (me) very quickly.

Rock Band owns, I was gonna say more but Chronabis seems to have done that for me . My fav part about Rockband is the drums, although it's kind of weird to play them after you've just played a real kit. Everything feels off.

Guitar Hero has decided to copy Rockband and make Band Hero.. I guess I should fix the name, because Band Hero is what I am trying to compare here.

a friend of mine has rock band and I've played it quite a few times and quite enjoyed it.

I have no reason for liking one over the other. I'm sure they are both good.... but the fact that I can play a metallica song on the guitar without actually having to learn it was epic for me!

I've been a metallica fan for a LONG time so being able to attempt to play their stuff was cool. I usually play on hard or medium cause I suck right now.... but it was fun already knowing the guitar riffs and getting to play them

Rockband. Reason: I played it before and it is way more funner than "bandhero" plus rockband came first I think the guitar hero is starting to copy games.

I haven't played both too much, but comparing the two I like playing RockBand a bit better...

Actually, Guitar Hero came out before Rockband, but the reason Rockband was able to have so much success was because it had other instruments, not just a guitar. Guitar Hero decided just recently to develop their Band Hero to try and compete with Rockband.

Here's something interesting, BOTH games are made by the same developer, Harmonix. Im sure you didnt know that

If I had to pick I would choose Guitar Hero because of their Metallica release. IMO Im not a big fan of GH or RB, I think kids should learn to play a real guitar or a real drum set instead.

I like guitar hero better. It's not that I don't like Rockband, it's just that I don't like the Hammer ons and pull off system. It's harder for me to play a difficult song in Rockband than in Guitar Hero. I also hear people say Guitar Hero is copying Rockband by putting vocals and drums. But, in my opinion, after Harmonix split up with Activision (that's right, they split up after GH rock the 80's) they continued on with Rockband with gameplay similar to Guitar Hero. I'm not trying to put the other down, I just think that Guitar Hero is the better game.

I like Guitar Hero better. I've played Rock Band as well, and it isn't much different than Guitar Hero, but Guitar Hero had Metallica, so I'm voting GH

I've always liked the feel of the Rock Band's guitar buttons better, and I liked the idea of the solo buttons farther down the fretboard. I also like the layout of the screen for Rock Band better, as I feel like the rectangles are more natural coming down the screen than the circles.

I used to love Guitar Hero, but it got boring. The music selection in Rock Band is a lot better and I like their drum set better.

I do own both games, and I'd much rather play Guitar Hero. For me, the drums is the most difficult to master, I don't bother playing that much anymore.

I find Guitar Hero getting a little better on their controls and gameplay, they even added a couple of cool songs, I should add.

Rock Band is awesome because of the simplicity of the drums, the cymbols on GH:WT make me mess up.
