bignatealpha: It's more due to their immense size (we would need a server for psx only with alot of bandwidth. re: expensive) and that CD/DVD based systems need alot more to run then a cart based system.
But you are close enough.

how about a member spotlight, every month a different member would be featured in an article to give players a heads up about that persons achievements. it would give players a whats what of certain individuals who are actually particapting in the forum and giving good ideas to actually improve this site.it would include a list of what ideas this person gave what games hes currently playing and what projects if any that hes working on.that way whos ever on the spotlight it would give other players that incentive that intionative to be active, they will strive to be in the spotlight and little by little people would get more creative with there ideals.idk but i think it might work.

NeoOmega: I kinda like this idea though it would be a little tricky figuring out which member deserves it the most each month. Maybe if there was a way to make it specifically based on something or maybe it could be a site wide thing for both the RGR and the forum itself. But if it was specifically based on something, that way we could automate it to decrease work that I have to do. For example, show who received the most trust points a specific week or who go the most thumbs up, etc.

God Created Adam, God Created Eve,
Than He Created David, But No One Would Believe,
That David Created Vizzed Board, Just For You And Me,
So Grab My Hand And Lets Be Friends, And We'll Head To The Land Of V

How about a medal rewards system? Say when a user reaches a total of 1 hour gameplay in the RGR he/she gets a medal on his/her profile and different medals for longer periods of total gameplay. Maybe individual medals like a mario medal if they spend a certain ammount of time playing a mario game (same for pokemon, FF etc..)

Just a thought.

gtwalq: I actually had a similar idea where I'd award medals when a user beats a game and for proof of beating a game, they'd have to take a screenshot with the built in snapshop capture in the emulators. But those are good idea's too, would add to the funness of the RGR.

IT COULD BE BASED ON WHATEVER YOU THINK IS RIGHT.OR YOU CAN MIX IT UP EVERY MONTH 1 MONTH CAN BE WHO POST THE MOST POLLS, ANOTHER MONTH WHO HAS THE MOST TRUST POINTS ANOTHER COULD BE MOST REPLYS TO A THREAD OR POLL, WHO PLAY THE MOST GAMES, HOW MANY HOURS WERE LOGGED IN, DIFFERENT STUFF LIKE THAT FOR EACH MONTH, AND YOU CAN DO LIKE THIS GUY SAID, UM GTWALG SAID TO IMPLEMENT A MEDAL SYSTEM, BUT I THINK IT SHOULD BE LIKE THE ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED THING THAT THE PS3 AND XBOX 360 DO.OR SIMPLY THE SPOTLIGHT COULD BE A NUMBER OF THINGS A QUOTA EACH MONTH THAT A MEMBER HAS TO MEET OR GET CLOSE TO IN ORDER TO BE PLACED IN THE SPOTLIGHT.

Please, no achievement system like the PS3 / 360.
It's just dumb to award someone for playing a game for x amount of time (no offense meant to anyone).
I like the one for awards if the person finishes the game, that at least is something of an achievement.

That's a good idea, the finishing a game one, I mean. The only problem is not all the emulators can take screenshots, so you could only get screen-shots for select games.

Hear ye! Hear ye! The Great bignatealpha is about to speak!

bignate: All the emulators supported in the RGR Plugin do support screenshots. Also if a user wants to go for a run to beat the game, they'd probably have to play the emulator with stripped functionality (like no way of cheating, no game shark or game genie support, etc).

But yeah, awarding someone for playing a game for a certain amount of hours is necessary but for an actual achievement would be sweet. And I do personally love the PS3 / 360 achievement systems, it gives you an incentive to do all you can in those games or to beat them and you have proof of your achievements.

Oh, I never realized that. I know that not all the Java ones said they could, and I didn't notice N64 and GBA could... guess I missed that.

For both of those emulators, we haven't added server side screenshot support, in fact, we haven't even made it public as to which keys are responsible for doing it, not even sure if it works yet but should in version 1.

The the 2 java emulators that support it are NESCafe and VizzedAEPgb.

Which means I can't get an award when I finish Crystal... Oh, well. I do believe I have some games in the VizzedAEPgbemu, and all my NES games are in NEScafe, so I'm good.

Sorry, armydude, Gamecube won't be possible. Disc-based consoles would require whole new servers, they're just too big, as DarkHyren put it:
It's more due to their immense size (we would need a server for psx only with alot of bandwidth. re: expensive) and that CD/DVD based systems need alot more to run then a cart based system.
.
As for DS, first off, it really doesn't fit with the Retro game room, and secondly, there aren't any DS emulators that we would be able to use yet. We would have to wait until one came out.

Exactly what bignatealpha said and to add to that, DS would be more illegal since they are still making the games.

Yeah, thanks for clarifying that, David, that's what I meant by it doesn't fit the Retro game room.

Nate: in that case (Retro) GBA wouldn't fit either, right? The NGC was just a suggestion. (Cough Mario sinshine cough)

Dave: That would make the GYR emulator a little more illegal as well, correct.

I'm not sure if this is possible but it would be cool if some certain games had a stat tracker for your profile. For Doubutsu no Mori (Animal Crossing in Japan) it would show a screenshot or something of your character on your profile. Just a thought, really, but if that's not possible, hour tracking would be neat, but not for achievements.

Actually, GYR is legal because it includes a disclaimer notifying you of when it is legal to download the files. And yes, the GBA does fit, because almost no GBA games are being sold outside of stores like GameStop, and no new ones are being made.

Dave: That would make the GYR emulator a little more illegal as well, correct.

Actually, GYR is legal because it includes a disclaimer notifying you of when it is legal to download the files. And yes, the GBA does fit, because almost no GBA games are being sold outside of stores like GameStop, and no new ones are being made.

And also GBA started in 2002 so some of the early games are old enough to be considered retro. On top of that, most of the GBA games have a retro feel to them and a lot or remakes, sequels and ports to retro games.
