pretty much all of the new shooter games are pretty dang hard when you play them on the hardest setting, but i wouldnt go as far as saying they are the hardest. i just said that because i cant think of the hardest 1 game ever.. ive played too many, and many of them are really really hard when you actually play them on their hardest setting. most people play games on easy, which really bugs me :

the hardest games ever in my opinion come from the NES mostly.

Contra, Battletoads, Double Dragon, Mike Tyson's Punchout, Gauntlet.

These games require months of practice to beat and don't have a way to make the game easier unless you cheat.

I would have to say Contra and SMB#. I nearly broke down playing the last level of SMB3, I literally could not pass it for the life of me.

i do agree with earlier posts that the new games are too easy to complete especially on the normal setting

I would say that the hardest game out there is Modern Warfare 2. That game is impossible. It's like: " Hey, you got me!! *shoots back* BOOM,HEADSHOT!!" in an infinite circle. That's going for Story mode and Online mode.

Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie were reall hard. if you were trying to get everything.

Also, a fairly new game for the ps3 that I have is just SOOPER DOOPER hard if its on hard, Uncharted 2. I FRIGGEN HATE SNIPERS!!!

Ninja Gaiden for the original XBox definitely. That game is UNFORGIVING.

Battletoads has to be one of the hardest games ever, the first two stages aren't that bad, but the later ones are extremely hard.

Darkside chronicles has this mini game where you fight tofu. If you fight them in hard or very hard. two hits will kill you. Whicht make it so hard when they go so fast. I would be impress if you beat it in very hard.

I honestly think that the Megaman games for the NES are the hardest games. Maybe its because I suck at games, but if i'm not mistaken, it is really hard, like most of the NES games such as Contra. Damn it, I'm bad at games!

hey i would think the limited edition of super mario bros. the levals on that were way to hard. The prototype before the limited edition was never released cause the testers gave up all the time.

Ok, the last post I made in this thread is really old, I should update. ^^;;

The hardest game I have ever played is a game called Megamari. Megamari is a freeware game, and is a clone of the NES MegaMan games. Megamari puts its own unique spin on MegaMan clones by adding elements from the Touhou series.

Megamari is ludicrously hard. Like the MegaMan games, you go through 8 stages, in any order, and then a certain number of castle stages. (In the case of Megamari, four.)
The enemies in Megamari are rediculously powerful, many of them are very erratic, fast, and hard to hit, and the bosses are insane. I myself have only taken down TWO of the game's 8 bosses, and I haven't even hit the Patchouli stages yet!!

Nonetheless, Megamari is an amazing game. I've never played a Touhou game, but i've been playing MegaMan since I was 3, so at least I have that helf down.

For me, Megamari tops I Wanna Be The Guy, Mario Forever, Ninja Gaiden, Kaizo Mario, Mushihimesama Futari, and even Solomon's Key. Megamari is just so incredibly difficult.

The Adventure of Link is pretty hard, if you're not good at it. ...I'm not good at it.

I can totally see how Contra can be considered one of the hardest games ever. At first I thought that was silly but then thought about how extremely difficult the game is without using the Konami code. I mean, has anyone ever beat the game with just the standard 3x lives?

For me personally the hardest game ever is Battletoads on the NES. I don't think I've ever met a person who beat this game. Just straight up ridiculous and next to impossible because you always have to be sooo percise to get through each level. the level with the airfoil ship thingy used to crush me, I could never remember the pattern or always would mistime the jumps.

I think the original Frogger on the arcade atari was one of the hardest games ever. I couldn't get past the first level. I always got eaten by crocodiles or run over by the cars.

I still have yet to beat Sword of Mana.
I think i just suck though.
