videogamenerd2 : That is so easy (although you should have added Megaman to this list) Pac Man's the bomb! (Megaman is old school many of his games were for the original nes, the megaman x series on the snes, the battle network series on gba, and also the megaman zero series.) Megaman takes priority to PacMan. Just because he is cooler all around. But then again, how awesome is being able to eat ghosts!

Pokemon games all the way, I like pokemon games because pokemon games are the very first game boy game that I played in my childhood games because of this game my chilhood is awesome.Pokemon blue/red version is my favorite old school game this game started the very first pokemon games and I think this is one of the best pokemon game.

My favourite game out of every oldschool + modern games, is Super Mario World. But other than that, I'll have to go with Super Mario Bros. 3.

Out of the list you listed though, I'm going with Pac-Man.

So given the choices you listed, probably Super Mario Bros.

But since you included "other", and said that anything during the arcade age counted as well, that includes the N64, PSX, and Dreamcast, right? If so then I'll say either Toejam & Earl or Harvest Moon: Back To Nature.

There are so many. I love Super Mario world and Super Mario 3. In my opinion tied for the best mario games with Super mario and mario bros tied for second, but also the greatest old school games of all time. I also like old arcade games like Pac man and Galaga.

Don't make me pick! xD Oh do I love many different ones. Pokemon Blue, Megaman, Legend of zelda, Sonic the hedgehog have to be the main ones... I remember playing Pokemon Blue a LOT as a kid. I played Harvest moon 64, and Legend of zelda ocarina of time. Although I couldn't get anywhere cause I was afraid of the deku baba's. XD oh and the great deku tree, ganon, and pretty much everything I just wanted to play the cool kids game.  But I digress, I need to get back on topic here...

What game... Well I could narrow it down to this. Sonic the hedgehog, Harvest Moon 64, and Pokemon Blue... and Frogger. Fu~n I played hours of frogger and Dig-Dug when I was stuck with only those games... I'd have to say though, on a final decision, I love me Sonic the hedgehog, specifically 3. I more or less loved to play as tails, which was a cheap way to get through the levels, but it was the best way to explore and enjoy more then what most thought the game had to offer. It got me through my childhood... Okay I do have to say that Pokemon blue was a huge pal to, but mostly the sonic series.

The thing though, I rented the game. Our genesis is old and in great condition though. Still plays the only two games we own. Sonic the Hedgehog, and Haunted house. It's to expensive to buy the games anymore, but I have the remakes on my gamecube. Still wish I had a dreamcast to play sonic adventure, sonic adventure 2, and Sonic shuffle. x3. I probably am the only one who didn't like mario that much so far. I mean, nothing wrong with the game, it just wasn't fun to me... I wonder why?

My favourite old school video game is Mario bros (for Nes) and others like Castelvania, donkey kong, metroid series, Megaman series, legend of zelda, Sonic the hedgehog and many many others. I am big fan of old school games. I dont play ps3, ps4 or Xbox games. Until now I play old games and I am 27 years old but these games are my childhood. I think 80'-95' are the gold times for playing games.

Mine would have to be Sonic The Hedgehog. Even after around 10 years I still play my old Sonic games because of the nostalgia I have of me and my cousin playing the games when we were around 6 years old.

I recently played Golden axe and Punch out, so I have to favor them now. Some other day, week or year, I might answer something else.

My favorite old school game is Mega Man 2, even though that is the generic answer, it is still one of the best games that exists from the 80s

For old school I vote for Chrono Trigger. Best scenario, beautiful graphics, out-of-this-world music and plenty to explore. Did I also mention 12 different endings?

For VERY old school, I'm torn between Final Fantasy III (the real one) and Dragon Quest III. The former had better graphics and music, but the latter had an excellent story and decent graphics and music.

I vote Pokemon  Yellow! I never had Red/Blue, but I do have Yellow and as it is the same generation and baaasically the same game...

Yeah, Pokemon Yellow, I believe. 

And it's not on your initial list, but I think Legend of Zelda should be up there somewhere, too. It's ridiculously hard but it's also fun and compelling, and look at what has come from it now.

My favorite old school video game would have to be Chrono Trigger because it has an incredible story a memorable cast of characters, an amazing soundtrack, and lots of different endings. There have been plenty of amazing JRPGs, but none of them are quite as good as Chrono Trigger in my opinion.
