   I was recently counting how many Mario games I own. I automatically counted Smash Bros as one of these games then thought... Is It?
 
   I mean, 4 of the 12 playable characters are from the Mario series. Is that enough for it to be considered a Mario game? Especially when the later entries start including even more characters form more games?

   What do you think? Yes or No?

Dragoon26 : I don't think the Smash games are considered as 'Mario' games. Why? Well the Smash series isn't canon for the Mario Universe and for the rest of them as well. Well, for second of all, in my opinion, there's no actual story line for Mario here. If it was a Mario game, then some other major characters will appear as well. In my opinion, Smash Bros. isn't really a 'Mario' game.

Definitely Super smash bros isn't a "Mario game" It's just a collaboration of different characters from
Nintendo, minus some from Sega. For it to be a Mario game it needs a story, background, theme. In which
smash bros doesn't include, but we all know since Mario is the face of Nintendo hes the main part of it.

   I believe that I am in agreement with you guys. 

   Some counter points I have thought of against us are...

1. Secret Board is Mushroom Kingdom
2. Its name is a play off of "Super Mario Bros" ~ "Super Smash Bros" .. It's not named "The Legend of Smash" or "PokeSmash" or anything, showing some favoritism towards Mario.
3. Mario is the largest presence on the actual game picture

The thing is, Mario is really only the most prominent figure of Smash for a simple reason. He's Nintendo's figurehead. it's pretty much their BIGGEST series, so of course they're going to capitalise on that.
But really, Smash Bros. isn't tied to any one series in particular. It's just a big mashup of multiple series duking it out because why not.

I say no. I think for a Mario game to be called a Mario game, it has to have only Mario characters. That's why I don't really considered Mario Kart 8 a Mario game because there is DLC that has " outsiders" that can be played, and I don't like that.

I would day that its a Mario world game, but not a Mario game itself, just because a large number of characters are from the Mario world only means that Mario is one of the popular worlds there, not that its actually a part of it. That's why I'm going to just say that its close, but no.

I would not consider Smash Bros a Mario game because the games have characters from most Nintendo franchises such as Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, Kirby, Metroid, Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus, and much more. I would consider the Smash Bros series an All-Round Nintendo game!

It's a unique series which combines characters from many others, including Mario, which, in Brawl, has its unique own storyline called the Subspace Emissary, which, in my opinion, is pretty creative enough to make the series its own thing, just using other characters .

It has its own themes, too, and I don't mean remixes of themes from other series. Lastly, the plot in Smash is NOT part of the canon in Mario, Zelda, or any other games whose characters are included, separating its universe completely.
