So I need a quick fix right now. My computer has become completely infested with malware. I have Bing search engines, toolbars, ads absolutely everywhere and I'm closing a page literally every 10 seconds. I need a link to a free legit malware removal software.

Please only post if you know that it's helpful and works.

Odd flames : I tried that as you suggested and it quarantined an ass load of malware. However it doesn't seem to have made any visible changes. I still see the same "ads by saveitkeep" everywhere. I searched by computer with anything tagged with that and found nothing.

This is the very minimal of what I am dealing with. It won't even let me install adblock anymore.

It also keeps opening up fake adobe and java websites automatically trying to install software.

Do you have Microsoft Security Essentials? Most PCs ship with it and I've found it to be very effective.

Check your task manager as well if there are some .exe's consuming 100% CPU, memory or disk (under the processes tab in 'more details' if you're using Windows) that are unknown to you. The usual culprit is dgen.exe if you're having problems with malwares. Uninstall those kinds of stuff as soon as possible as they could also be the reason for overheating and unresponsiveness of a computer. Restore all your browser's original settings. Uninstall unnecessary plugins and softwares. Do disk scans (preferably with ESET nod 32). Install TuneUp utility to defragment and clean some stuff that are often overlooked.

If all else fails, reformat your computer.

Juliet mentioned this, but whenever I have malware issues as you're describing, I just uninstall any downloaded programs from the day the issues started. Go to 'Uninstall or Change a Program' and uninstall anything you don't recognize or trust. That generally takes care of it for me.

Juliet : I didn't install TuneUp because it seems extremely sketchy to me. Mainly due to the fact that I think at one point I had it hijack my PC along with Registry Mechanic. But if you say it's safe I could give it a try.

Along with a pile of disk scans here's everything I did:

Installed Microsoft Security Essentials and ran a scan and treated my computer.

Ran Malware Bytes again which picked up a significantly less amount since I already did a previous scan and quarantined it.

Installed AVG for extra protection and ran a scan as well.

Reset all browser data.

Checked again for any programs I didn't recognize (which I didn't but uninstalled some stuff I rarely use anyways)

Checked task manager and closed some tasks (I didn't find any tasks called dgen.exe however). The PC was only at 54% usage anyways so I doubt the culprit was there.

Lastly did a clean reboot and everything seems fine at the moment. Hopefully with all the added protection I now have (compared to the 0 I had before) this issue won't happen again.

Blubcreator : I know it's fine now, I just want to say if you use Google Chrome, you should download ad block plus. It's a plugin for Google Chrome that blocks pop up ads and, just like the title says, blocks ads from showing up on your browser. I hope this helps, peace .

sonicmcmuffin : The thing is I didn't download anything. I left my browser open and come back and see a bunch of tabs open telling me my computer has a virus (all scams of course) and ads, widgets and other crap absolutely everywhere. I only download from sites I 100% trust anyways. I also learned a long time ago to always go for custom installations on programs =p.

MCJungleKitty : I've always used adblock plus but I think chrome had an update and automatically reset the browser along with it. I wasn't able to download it after that with all the malware.

Just for the future, Advanced SystemCare works very well. It scans for malware, spyware, etc and also has a disk defrag feature and also security repairs and a lot of other useful stuff and it's free. If you get the full version you can also do stuff like free your ram and a lot of more advanced stuff.

Some legit apps have adware etc in them.
For instance Bing is often made the default search engine because microsoft pay people to do it.
They have a box with recommended or please accept the terms and somewhere in scandolously small print it says bing toolbar install/yahoo search etc.

1.always have some form of anti virus/system protection on
2.use web of trust add on to stay away from dodgy sites
3.disable pop ups in addblock plus
4.consider creating a restore point every month or so
5.install updates regularly for any windows security vulnerabilitys

I haven't had any antivirus for a few years and my life is good. The truth is if you don't download stuff illegally or go to sites you are skeptical about, you have few reasons to worry. People can still hack you but most of the time it is your own fault. The way that will probably produce the best results for you is reformat.

If you do need an antivirus, a very techy friend of mine says to use ESET NOD32 and skip norton, symantec, avg, etc.

I see this is an older post but here's what I'll use(IT Admin of 10 years experince)

CCleaner is used to clear temp caches and registry issues which can often clear some issues as a lot of malware/viruses will reside in temp folders.

Malware Bytes as recommended earlier is good.

Kaspersky TDSSKiller is a rootkit removal kit. Runs very quickly and it is pretty effective.

ESET Online scanner is a free once off run AV scan.
http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner-popup/

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.6.2 There is a newer version but it's given me issues recently.
http://www.safer-networking.org/dl/ Go to the bottom under other downloads to find it.

ComboFix is a pretty heavy duty one and only recommend in severe cases after other options have been explored. Be very careful to follow the prompts and let it finish completely.

There are also several Linux based boot disk AV solutions but I'm not up to date on them as nowadays we just ghost them if we can't clear them with the above.

I would suggest running these in safe mode if possible by hitting F8 during boot.

Hope you got it running ok!
