I've been fighting a cold with some flu like symptoms for a week and I can't shake it. I've been out of work because I'm racked with soreness, coughing, fever, and I'm not What do you folks do to feel better when you're sick? Give me anything that works with the exception of 'play video games,' if you please. Thanks. What do you folks do to feel better when you're sick? Medicine... (I usually take Decolsin for cold)
And drink lots and lots of fluids, preferably water. Last but not the least, close your eyes more often. I don't know why but it helps me relax when I close my eyes whenever I'm sick. You don't have to lie down, resting your head on the top of your sofa's back will do (or if you have none, maybe a pillow at the back). Get well soon! Drink/Eat hot water/hot chocolate/tea without sugar, soup, and popsicles. It's also good to take medicine if you don't want the cold to be inside you for a while. The popsicles are for cooling down your temperature. Only eat 1 or 2 a day, since they consist sugar. Get a face towel, wet it with cold water, and apply to your forehead. Then, grab a thick blanket or two and wrap it around you. It feels relaxing, and nice if your fever is high and you body is freezing. If that doesn't work, take a warm or cold bath (depends on how hot your head feels). If your in a hurry, then take a shower instead. Do not blow your nose or breath in the flem. Instead, take 1 tissue, twist it, and put both ends in your nose. This way you won't get a rash near your nose. But only problem with this is, you breath through your mouth and it'll get dry eventually. Drink lots of fluids to keep your mouth moist. Just let the tissue do it's job, but if you feel something thick inside your nose, only then you are able to grab a tissue and blow. Whenever you cough, make a growling/gurgling sound with your throat, get ready to spit when the flem is raising, and spit-- preferably in a throw up bag or sink. Your throat will feel so mush better, once the bacteria you coughed up is out of your system. Hope this helps you out! Get a face towel, wet it with cold water, and apply to your forehead. I almost never get sick, but It's not uncommon I get a moderate cold. Last time I had a significant illness was somewhere between a cold and the flu. Upset stomach, aching throat.
I find the best thing is just not to exert yourself. It's hard for me to follow that advice because I hate staying in my bed, but it is honestly the best policy. In bed, keep warm, drink fluids, eat regardless of whether you are hungry. Orange juice does seem to help, and nutritious soup is good, especially since its easy to eat. Hot baths are a plus too, especially since you can get all kinds of muscle relaxant bath stuff. Not particularly manly, but when you're joints ache you take anything that helps. Make hot drinks too. Honey is a good ingredient, because its exceptionally nutritious and one of the easiest foods to digest. Some lemon juice is good too, helps the airways. hot water to fill it out. Some people swear adding whisky helps too. I've never bothered. You should also avoid Coughing agravates the sourness in your throat. Its exceptionaly hard to resist it obviously, but the hot honey drink really solved that issue for me. Wasnt even good honey, it was store own brand stuff, worth about $1.40 for a jar. Enough for a good few drinks. It is quite sickly though, so you need to watch how much of it you're consuming. I find the best thing is just not to exert yourself. Whenever I am sick, I always go straight to soup, but not just any kind, I always make myself a nice cup of Cup a noodle and then I add in a few pinches of pepper because it really helps clear up the throat and helps with your nose and such. |

I drink a lot of hot water, and eat a lot of hot soft food like various types of soup.
On top of that, I'd get a pack Halls and carry a few in my pockets. Coughing just makes everything hurt, but once you've got that covered, it makes the sickness much more bearable. I also use Alka Seltzer once a day. Other than that, I sit tight and wait for it to heal. I personally would not video game. It just doesn't distract me enough. Instead I binge watch TV shows during the day, and If I absolutely must finish something, then I'd drink hot tea for a little caffeine, and then I'd work for the next hour and a half afterwards. But while I'd like to be productive, I've found that it's usually better to just get through the sickness as quickly and painlessly as possible. All I do is rest a lot. By that I mean As for medicine...none of that crap for me. I like to build natural resistance to the pathogens around us. Unless I want some killer vivid dream you won't find any nitequil in my system. Or any antibiotics for that matter. I eat enough processed food as it is anyways. I usually recover in a couple days. I usually go straight for the chicken noodle soup or tomato soup and saltine crackers. After 2 days of that, I am back to normal. |

Normally when I'm sick, it really depends on how suck I really am, if it's like a mild headache, I normally get a couple a could pain relievers. but if it's more of a serious sickness, then I'll grab some cold medicine, and sometimes, my sickness can last for a few days, means I use the medicine for those days I'm sick. |

Rinsing your mouth with salty water helps, especially for sore throat. Otherwise, I just take it easy so my body can focus on fighting the infection. |

When I have a cold, I almost always take Motrin or Tylenol medicine twice a day for 2 days. If I'm still having throat problems, I still take the medicine, but I reduce it to once a day. I also try to get a lot of rest, mainly in bed. I have some soup or Spaghetti-Os to soothe my throat as well. When I have the flu, it's different. I try to get a lot of rest, but I don't take medicine. If I've puked, I drink Pedialyte or a clear sports drink. After a day, I eat some saltine crackers and if I'm hungry again later, some chicken noodle soup. If I have a fever, I get a cold migraine patch and stick it to my forehead until it wears off. I also, like I said for when I've puked, eat some saltine crackers and if I'm hungry again later, some chicken noodle soup. When I have the flu, it's different. I drop some Airborne tablets- usually two a day at the first sign of any illness. Other than that, I eat well, and have lots of tea. I don't really get to take days off from work, so I don't usually get rest. Regardless, the airborne usually stops anything in its tracks and I feel better in a day or two. I haven't had a real illness in at least 8 years. Regardless, the airborne usually stops anything in its tracks and I feel better in a day or two. I haven't had a real illness in at least 8 years. |

Well hope you are feeling better. As for me, when I am sick I mainly use Thera-flu to treat it. If I don't have that then I go with the Alka Seltzer cold plus. For a sore throat I always carry halls on me to ease the general pain of it and ease my cough. I also gargle very warm salt water twice a day while my throat is sore. I eat a lot of soups mainly ( homemade by me cuz I don't like many canned soups ), rest as much as I can, and binge watch a lot of television shows. Main thing I would advise is the same as some of the others have said ... get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids, doesn't really matter what kind as long as you keep chugging fluids to |

So earlier this week, I fell sick. I still had classes and other obligations to attend to, and this time I didn't have any help.
I ended up binging on: - Cough Drops (1 every 20-30 minutes, except when using Alka Seltzer) I started early, and only coughed maybe twice over four days - the rest of time it was repressed. - Alka Seltzer (Apparently going over 30 in a day is REALLY REALLY bad, so don't do that). I used it a lot when I first got sick, and while my throat got sore, it still helped me not feel it. It also prevented me from coughing and doing more damage. I used maybe 8-9 a day for two days. You're supposed to use 2 tablets for 4 oz. I found it to be just as effective for me with 1 tablet in 16 oz. Meaning I did drink a lot of water too. I also took: - Standard allergy medicine I rarely take it, but when I do, it's highly effective at stopping cold-like symptoms, like a dry throat, which is cough inducing. It still was pretty effective. I found out that by putting most of my effort into suppressing my coughing, and then handling the rest of the symptoms, it was fairly manageable. I slept a lot too. That meant getting behind on a lot of work, and after having finally caught up, I'm pretty sure the extra I ended up binging on: - Cough Drops (1 every 20-30 minutes, except when using Alka Seltzer) I started early, and only coughed maybe twice over four days - the rest of time it was repressed. - Alka Seltzer (Apparently going over 30 in a day is REALLY REALLY bad, so don't do that). warmaker : I know this has been up for a while and I reckon you aren't sick anymore but I figured this may help anyone else here who is sick . The most basic here is drink at least a liter of water a day. Avoid fruits and vegetables, fried and spicy foods, chicken and dry foods (biscuits etc.), and no cold drinks. Take a lot of warm water or room temperature water. What I did to get rid of a cough and fever within two days were as follows: Two glasses of water every hour Gargling with salt water every our. A warm ginger and honey drink every hour or every two hours. A lot of No exercise. If up to it, I also recommend a honey lemon/lime drink and a 50ml dose of straight up lemon. I swear it helps. The reason as to the avoidance of the foods is just what I do. I find that it really disappears a lot faster. I don't have an actual medical anything to back it up, I just follow traditional methods. Hope this helps you and anyone who may need it. Two glasses of water every hour Gargling with salt water every our. A warm ginger and honey drink every hour or every two hours. A lot of No exercise.
