Firstly, what does having a mother have to do with having a middle name? That implies that the father always chooses the first name. No one has to have a middle name, in fact the practice didn't become popular in English-speaking culture until after the American Revolution.

Secondly, you don't have to be Christian to understand what an Archangel is or who Michael is--in case you hadn't noticed, the culture is inundated with it.

Thirdly, my middle name is Lea, but is pronounced Lee because my parents are insane. Dad suggested it, mom said the Lee spelling was the boy's spelling and so my dad suggested Lea... you know, instead of Leigh, the normal feminine spelling.

Techinacally, it's my real Chinese name, but no one here can pronounce it, so I just stick with my American name, as that is my real American name.
