Here's a thought to ponder. What does GOD think about games that have ghost enemies? I really do not know for sure, since I have not really been able to find anything in the BIBLE on ghosts. I believe that HE had mentioned something about familiar spirits. But I sort of thought that HE was talking about the witches' habits of conversing with demons or something like that. I really have not been able to find anything about ghosts--the spirits of peoeple. Mostly, the spirits that are in the BIBLE are angels and demons--not ghosts. As my friend Eirinn pointed out to me, human spirits are either in heaven or hell--I'm not sure if that is the same thing as the "imprisonment" that is also mentioned. So, are ghost enemies in games fine because the BIBLE never really even brought up the subject, and it is basically a human mythology? Or is it wrong? I myself am not sure. What I do know is this. There are some ghosts that I will stay away from because they seem far too demonic or evil spirit like. There are some though, that I do except. I accept the ghosts from PacMan--even the modern day versions (who supposedly had their bodies stripped away for their treason to Pac World.)--because they are typically portrayed more as monsters in my opinion. The new ghosts are composed of slime, so that makes me look at them as some sort of slime monster, even if they can slip through walls and even into PacWorlders. Two other good examples that I can think of are Phantoon--the "alien ghost" from Super Metroid and the "chozo ghosts" from metroid prime 1. The reason that I accept these guys is that they seem more like a science fiction monster to me. I mean--first of all, the chozo are fictional characters; and we are not even sure what Phantoon really is. (He did make an Appearance in Metroid Other M--but not as a disembodied ghost, rather as a full bodied monster. Sure, he had some wierd hands and eyeball attacks. But they really portrayed him as a creature in this game.) I also can accept the boos from Mario--most of the time--In mario galaxy, the only way that you could beat them was by luring them into a light beam. That seems a little too evil to me--but even then I am not sure...I was wondering if I could get any help on this. Please? |

Fist off, what we consider Ghosts now days didn't come around till the Medieval Ages, as I understand it, so that changes a few things. I personally don't have problems with Ghosts as they don't exist. But if they are representing demonic beings then I have problems. It really depends on the types etc... As for Biblical passages, I can't think of anything off of the top of my head, sorry. And as I don't really know what God says about Ghosts in the bible, he speaks of beings, and other stuff like that, but not ghosts; I can't answer your question that way. However, I may be doing some research on this. It should be very interesting. I personally don't have problems with Ghosts as they don't exist. FaithFighter : I think there might be a thread about ghosts floating around somewhere that I replied to, but I can't remember. Anyway, yours is a bit different so here goes. There is in fact nothing mentioned in the Bible on ghosts. When you are talking about ghosts and if such a thing exists, you have to define it first. If the term means "spirit beings" then the answer is a definite yes. If the term means "spirits of people who have died" then the answer is no. The Bible makes that very clear that when we die we go to heaven (for the believer - 2 Corinthians 5:6-8; Philippians 1:23) or to hell (for the unbeliever - Matthew 25:46; Luke 16:22-24). We don't hang around haunting the living. Hebrews 9:27 - Man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment As I've just mentioned, that is what happens to a person's soul-spirit after death - judgement - heaven or hell. According to the Bible if there are such a thing as ghosts, they absolutely cannot be the disembodied spirits of deceased human beings. There are indeed spirit beings who can connect with and appear in our physical world. These beings are identified by the Bible as angels or demons. Demons are evil, deceptive and destructive and they can masquerade as "angels of light' (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). Appearing as a "ghost" and impersonating a deceased human being definitely seem to be within the power and abilities of a demon. Demons only seek to “kill, steal, and destroy” (John 10:10). They will do anything within their power to deceive people, to lead people away from God. This is very likely the explanation of “ghostly” activity today. Whether it is called a ghost, a ghoul, or a poltergeist, if there is genuine evil spiritual activity occurring, it is the work of demons. The games we have today are saturated with references to demons and evil spirits. Even innocent looking games will have a demonic undertone and we as Christians should pray for and have discernment when we decide to buy or play certain games. Anything that leads you away from your time spent with God should be avoided. I've talked about the subject in a previous post, but I can't find it right now :/ It remains interesting that you are pondering the thought. I have found that if it starts making you uncomfortable deep down, listen to that small, still voice and avoid it - the particular game I mean.
