I've always sucked at creating my own humor. I mean.. my younger siblings swore I was hilarious, but they were also ... well... young kids at the time.    Sometimes I try to be funny, but I'm met with silence and I end up being the only one laughing (at myself).  I think it's amazing that some people get away with it by spouting random things... where does that talent come from?  Someone said something last night to me that was so random, I couldn't stop laughing. It made me curious though.... can ANYBODY be funny?

Do you have to be witty and smart?  Or just random?  (Obviously... this is subjective, people.. I'm not asking for 'facts')

I appreciate more intellectual humor, but random humor is always a nice breath of fresh air.

For example... Mitch Hedberg is awesome.  You miss over half the joke if you don't actually get to LISTEN to the delivery, but he pulls one liners like: "Rice is great if you're really hungry and want to eat two thousand of something."

It's best if you are random, if you are just the right amount of random, then everybody will be caught off guard and not expecting whatever you do. Basically, being funny has nothing to do with being funny, it's all about your approach and your execution.

Haha, people always laugh at what I said at the times I don't try to be funny. 

Planning to say something funny gives others the impression that you're trying too hard, which already lowers the mood. Be natural and find what kind of humor people like and don't like and just head the direction of the conversation that way until you find room for a joke at the last second.

That's how I handle it, and it works pretty well. Everyone can do it differently though.

Considering the fact that, as you stated, its subjective; Yes. Anyone can be funny.
Many jokes people make I find dull, others don't.
And as said, random can be funny too.

E.G milton Jones:
"The worst job I ever had was as a forensicologist for the United Nations. One time I thought I'd come across the mass grave of a thousand snowmen, but it turns out it was just a field of carrots."

Thats not really a joke in the traditional sense, just a random stupid statement.
I found it funny though.

Much like art there is no clear cut line. Anyone can be an artist, anyone can be funny.

Humor is a very tricky concept to pull off. Everyone has their own types of humor and all that. That explains why some people get the jokes and some people don't get the jokes. I think that humor is supposed to be a more natural thing rather than a forced thing. It depends on what some people like and can relate to.

Anyone can be funny. Believe it or not, there are people who find "me" funny.

If I can do it, anyone can. All it requires is the right audience and the right timing.

Often times, the funny things are the things you don't plan on saying anyways.

And often times, comedians are the least funny people. I can't enjoy a comedy show, because they try too hard.

Yes anybody can be funny. You just have to find your own brand of humor.

For example some jokes involve personal experiences that the comedian faced or seen

Ex: So I press the flight attendant button and the lady asks me "How can I help you?" I tell her "Yes I would like to make a complaint about the flight attendant's services, they have been really awful."

Some jokes involve making sarcastic comments about objects, people, or headlines.

Ex: Headline: Government officials say that missing cows is the result of rising milk prices; in other news Slaughterhouses report that they have too much meat and are cutting prices

Some jokes involve stereotypes.

Ex: Dave Chappelle, Carlos Mencia

While others involve props.

Ex: Carrot-top or that guy with the puppets.

Once you find your own type of humor, you must then find people who like that sort of jokes. This can be kind of hard to due as people have different types of humor. That is why its important to play too your audience (ex. If your doing a comedy event involving Rednecks, than you don't make jokes about Asians unless you can tie it into the event.)

Hopefully that helps a bit. Just remember that while half the effort involves coming up with good jokes, the other half involves knowing who your audience is.

I believe everybody has the capacity to be funny, depending on the situation. My humour is either really intellectual, or really low brow, it just depends on my audience and subject. I've always said I'd do horrible as a comedian, but great as a sitcom actor. The weird thing is, people always seem to laugh at things I say not even wanting to be funny, like random observations, but turn out to be hilarious. It's too bad I can't think of any examples off the top of my head.

Funny as in "Ha Ha." or Funny as in "Strange?"

I do think anyone can be funny, no matter who you are! Even people like Barack Obama, your 5 year old sibling, or Dane Cook (well, that's a stretch). You just need to find the humor that suits you and you can pull off in the utmost effective of ways. Everyone's sense of humor is different. The jokes you find most funny might not be the kinds you're good at, or maybe that is the case. Either way, no matter who you are, you can be funny in your own way. You just need to find what that "way" is!

Ok, to go along with this thread, there are people that can be funny, some ain't the only way you can find out is by looking at that person. The ones that are funny are the ones that entertains a lot of other people like comedians, and some people are random, but we like those people.

As for me, I'm not a comedian, I'm just a normal, everyday guy that is just living his live, now will you excuse me, I got a lot of............... Oooo look, a butterfly. Must chase that butterfly, you are mine.

Yes, anyone can be funny, and probably you've been just as funny as that one person on occasion. The difference is, you don't see them most of the day. You don't see them try to be funny and fail every time. And if you do, you don't remember it. But you do remember all the times they made you laugh out loud at something so incredibly hilarious it had to be (but couldn't be) planned out.

Everybody has those moments, we just think other people have them more that we do.

I think anyone can be funny you just have to be yourself, of course it may take a few goes to actually get at least one person to laugh.

A little practice doesn't hurt. Try looking at yourself in the mirror, telling a joke, and decide whether or not something works. Remember, what matters is that you tell the kind of jokes YOU like to tell.

In my opinion the key to being funny is timing. If you don't say something at just the right time the humor is lost and you end up looking stupid. I think that every person has the potential to be funny. For some the process comes quite easy for others it takes work. However If you try to heard to be funny you will not be. You will end up forcing the humor and you will end up being one of those people who think that they are funny but are really not.  

It seems like I am funny, even when I am not trying. I also get funnier the more I drink. Lol.
