So a few days ago, I was listening to the radio on the way back home from work. In the News on the radio station, they were discussing the fact that Jeopardy host, Alex Trebek, is growing back his mustache. That same day, I see it on random news segments online. Over the next 2 days, I see it on television News. It is official. Alex Trebek, after 13 years of no mustache, is bringing the stache back!

...... so what?! I mean, it bugs the hell out of me how we are in an age where you can make a reality show out of the most stupid, ridiculous, or mundane things and people go NUTS over it. People on these moronic shows are getting way too much attention. But now we are apparently at a point to where one celebrity growing a mustache is worthy of days of news coverage over various medias. Instead of worrying about things that actually matter, people are making a big deal over someone growing a mustache? What does it say about us as people when something so insignificant as this warrants days of media coverage?

Alex Trabek's mustache is magical.

It is what will propel humanity into a new technological era.

This event is bar none the most important event in the past decade.

Honestly though, most people don't really care, they are just looking for distractions
And you can't really fault T.V. news. After all, they are just giving the people what thy want.
Since a majority of people turn to the internet for current events these days, it's harder to keep up those ratings
Appealing to a certain crowd that typically watches a lot of T.V. is the best way to do that.
It's a medium on the decline trying to stay afloat as best it can.
That's my thoughts on the subject at least.

rcarter2 : I don't know how, but something as small as a moustache can begin a riot.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/28/nyregion/former-met-keith-hernandez-shaves-his-mustache-for-charity.html?_r=0

Two years ago, Keith Hernandez of SNY shaved his for charity, and the news went insane, over the course of the next week, pretty much every single newspaper and news station near New York couldn't reject doing a story in it. If you type in Keith Hernandez mustache into Bing, the first 3 pages are full of random articles from that one event, and I agree, people are taking some of the smallest things way to far.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/hernake01mustache.shtml

They even gave the stache it's official stat page.

All I know about Alex trebek, is that apparently he has a moustache.
Frankly, that's more than I need to know. The only thing stupider than society's obsession with celebrity's, is how wide the Defenition has now become.

thenumberone : Well, while I agree that it is sad what gets classified as celebrity nowadays, Trebek is a legitimate celebrity. Though there are many game shows on TV (more on the game show network now instead of other network TV), game shows are those things that just lose their flair with the audience and don't typically last a particularly long time. Jeopardy! is the third longest running game show of all time. Alex Trebek has hosted the show since 1984. Hosting one of the most successful game shows for 30 years, a show that has won 27 Daytime Emmy Awards and has 37 million viewers weekly right now, he isn't one of those people who are just famous for being a dramatic moron. He holds the Guinness World Record for most game show episodes hosted, beating Price is Right host, Bob Barker. He won a Lifetime Achievement Award, won a Geographical Society's Gold award for contributing so much to geographic education, an award from the American Foundation for the Blind for personally making accommodations for a blind person on the gameshow, who became a Jeopardy! champion.

His fame is well deserved, but people raving about him growing his mustache back is ridiculous.

rcarter2 :
I hate daytime tv.
Iv never watched jeopardy before but I doubt I'd enjoy it.
Weirder things hit the news though. There are entire magazines dedicated to celebrity gossip. I find it sad people care more about other random peoples lifes, than their own.

I saw his mustache on Jeopardy the other night and almost died. A mustache again? How could he? This is an outrage!

Hey, mustaches are cool and all, but it doesn't look that good on him.

I honestly had not really noticed that his mustache was gone. I don't watch Jeopardy anymore, and even when I did, it was not that often. But, I saw one of those insurance commercials yesterday, and I finally noticed that his mustache was gone, after noticing this thread a few days prior. It's really hilarious, really: The stuff that makes the news these days, when there is other stuff that deserves to make the news more.

His mustache is iconic, symbolic.

Slash's Hat
Timmy Turner's Hat
Hitler's 'stache
Washington's Wig
Lincoln's Hat.
Kim Kardashian's Behind
Pamela Anderson's chest
Arnold Schwarzenegger's superfluously long surname
Skrillex's Glasses
Angelina Jolie's un-aging face
Carrot Top's Hair
Batman's suit
Chuck Norris' beard
Yugi Moto's hair
Michonne's Katana

All these are symbolic to that particular person...

Trebek started the show with a fully grown mustache, and for the millions of people who do watch Jeopardy each night (and now during the day for certain countries), his mustache is iconic, and has more fame than your entire family

yeah, because gaining......+20 Viz is really gonna make my day, right?

(Below was added after my original post above, so I do not get any additional Viz or contribution points)

OH WAIT, EVEN BETTER. BY ADDING MORE WORDS TO MY ORIGINAL POST, I CAN ALSO GAIN MORE CP!!!! YEAH, I CAN GET, ABOUT .3 MORE CP JUST BECAUSE OF THE EXAMPLES!!!! AND CP DOESN'T HELP ME EARN MORE MONEY, IT DOESN'T SOLVE INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS BETTER, it does nothing, except add more CP and Viz to my account....For a "Debate / Logic / News Discussion" forum, your problem is pretty irrelevant... So yeah, sue me.

-blinks my eyes-

He had a mustache?! How can this be?

I seriously cannot picture him with mustache especially when I am so used to him not having one after all of this time. He will create history once again with his magical mustache to wow everyone.

port753 : It isn't for CP or Viz. During TdV months, the creators of a thread are supposed to report any post in their thread that could be considered word fluff so it doesn't boost the word count in the posting competition. Cool your jets.
