Good day Viz folk.

I'm surprised that their hasn't been a question like this before, so I guess I'll make one. I'm sure that every time you go out to a restaurant and you order red meat (burger, steak, sirloin, etc) the waiter will always ask you how do you like your meat cooked. So I figure this would be a good thread. For those of you who are not familiar with the terms I'll list them with a brief description (but I'm sure someone will point out that I'm just generalizing these definitions horribly).

Extra-Rare or Blue: Its very Red and Cold. Closest you'll get to eating raw meat.

Rare: Cold Red center and soft texture.

Medium Rare: Warm Red center and is a little firmer compared to Rare

Medium: Pink with small amounts of Red and is firm.

Medium-Well: Small amount of Pink in center

Well Done: No pink, all Brown. Very firm.

Also to those who are vegans or vegetarians you can pick what type if you were to "theoretically" eat meat.

My chef-teacher calls the first choice "Black&Blue"

Anyways, I like eating my steaks Medium. Of course, I wouldn't eat it everyday, for health reasons and stuff. I would eat it that way occasionally; sort of like eating a treat. With burgers, however, it's got to be Medium-Well. I don't like the taste of blood hindering the other ingredients when I take a bite out of it.

If you consider pork red meat, then I would say that there has to be absolutely no pink in it at all. I'm too paranoid when it comes to pork being undercooked.

Generally medium. If you cook it more it takes on a terrible texture. I dont like it cooked less in case It makes me ill. If I was confident of the chefs ability though, Id happily eat it rare.

I have had Kibbeh before, which is a middle eastern beef dish with spices like cinnamon. The family who made it, always makes it completely raw, so I HAVE had raw ground beef and really liked it. You have to ask the butcher for a special ground beef though, you can't just do it with any beef you get a the store.

Rare. Honestly, I would do extra rare, but I like my meat to be warm. If it is seasoned right, I can put up with medium rare, but that is as high as I go.

I don't really care with my chicken or pork/ham (I don't like pork or ham anyways). My steak and ground beef, however? I normally prefer both of them to be either medium or medium-rare. I like the taste of the red area, but I don't like it too rare. I am disgusted by the idea of blue-rare meat, though. I googled it and found a picture of a comparison of all the differently cooked meats. Rare looks maybe a little gross, but blue-rare... It's seared on the outside but like freaking 1% cooked on the inside. That's disgusting.

I like any kind of meat very very very well done...I can't tell you how many times I have gone to a restaurant and requested my meat well done (whether it is a hamburger or steak or anything else) and I get a surprise or pink/ red meat on the inside....

I don't really eat steak a whole lot, so I guess I don't know what would taste the best since I haven't "experimented" but I also like it well done. I guess I could eat Medium well also and not really notice much of a difference, but for the most part I don't like to see red, pink or any other shades of the rainbow in my meat.
