Whenever I start a new game in emerald, leaf green, fire red, I always make sure my starter has a serious, hardy, docile, bashful, or quirky nature. What's your thoughts on a neutral nature?

I actually used to do that once I first found out about natures as I was obsessed about not having one that lowered another stat. Nowadays I usually don't care much unless it's a Pokemon I'm using competitively as it doesn't really matter much what nature your Pokemon has in game. Sometimes I even like to do a bit of role play and think that the nature has to do with the personality of the Pokemon.

Anyways I don't really mind if I get a neutral natured Pokemon, in some ways I actually find it preferable but I wont ever actually go through the trouble to find one unless I need one with a neutral nature specifically for something.

No, neutral natures aren't competitively viable, even mixed Pokémon want a little extra power in 1 of there stats so they use defense lowering natures, or if they're slow they lower speed, there's never a reason for neutral natures in competitive play, EVER.

When just going through a game like Emerald of Leaf Green, although I don't like neutral natures, I will just go with them if it's taking too long to get the nature I'm looking for. Although, like Z and Cradily said, it's not a smart idea to use those natures while battling competitively. The one real positive for those natures is all Pokéblocks will do alright, so having it lets you use any Pokéblocks on it without having to worry about if it likes them or not.

I would never use a neutral nature competitively, but it is just fine when only going through the games themselves. When playing through, I really do not care what nature my Pokemon gets, and I feel better for it.

pokemaster87 : Pretty much, to do well competitively you'll need to have specific natures, evs, move sets and sometimes ivs as well.
