I seem to be one of the few people I actually know who make electronic music regularly and was wondering if there are any other people here who do this?

I figured we could share tips or songs and critique one another.

Anyone?

It's something that interests me, but I don't have the software for it on my computer. I did make a song in my Digital Media class at school last year.

I don't have the real interest in doing electronic music, but something like this is really interesting to listen to. I don't have any problems with electronic music itself, but doing it yourself is a bit off. But I am interested in what you use to make it.

I have always wanted to try to get into it, I just could not find a good program that was cheap enough. If you could recommend a program that is free, I would be than excited to finally be able to start on trying my hand at making dubstep or electronic music.

thing1 : If you really want to jump right into playing around with music making, you can try this online tool: http://www.audiotool.com/

There is also a free trial version of FL Studio if you want  a relatively simple program to play with.

I make electronic music a lot, not that it's any good but I enjoy doing it. I only use LMMS which is like FL Studio but free. As you may expect it isn't as good and for some reason files are huge. I'm actually saving up for FL Studio.

I like the idea of sharing songs in this thread, we can really help each other with that. I might upload a few of my own to soundcloud and post them here.

I've been making music in FL Studio 11 (I used 10 previously) for a couple years now under the name Don:Ellis Music and uploading it to YouTube.  I'd consider myself decent, but not great or amazing, and I constantly change what style I write.  I do it mainly for the enjoyment honestly.   I'll post a song here if anyone wants to listen

I had some fun playing around with inudge while getting ready for LD30. I made this little thing - http://inudge.net/#/3k0s - I think it turned out OK.

Then I played one of the LD30 submissions, Broken World - http://www.stencyl.com/game/play/27935 - I thought the music was awesome and after a little research found out he used FL Studio 11. The price tag is...steep, but there's an FL Studio app for $20. The app description wasn't really clear whether you had to have the PC version in combination with the app which sort of killed my drive to get the app.

In the end, I ended up getting a free-to-try app called Caustic - haven't played with it much though. Life's been getting in the way.

kazenoklonoa_45 : I like the way it started but kept wishing for 2:43. Real happy when it got there.

thephantombrain :   That little creation you made with inudge actually sounds pretty good. I like the instruments you used in it and the flow of it.  And yeah, haha, I made the build up to 2:43 rather long in Turbulence.  Thanks for the kind feedback though!   And I've tried the FL Studio app.  You do not need to have the full PC FL Studio to use the mobile app; however, the mobile app is very limited and, in my opinion, very hard to use well.

thing1 : It's rather hard to recommend a free and resource friendly piece of software honestly.  Most music production software are rather expensive and resource heavy, unfortunately.  Ableton Live (the software artists like Deadmau5 use) costs over $600.  FL Studio is over $150.  But as far as anything free is concerned, I can give you two suggestions.

First is LMMS.  It stands for Linux Multi-Media Studio, but don't worry, it's available on Windows as well. It's not available on Mac though.  It was the first software I tried and it didn't seem very resource heavy.  My old 2005 Dell computer was able to run it.  It's completely free and open source too, which is always welcome.  http://lmms.sourceforge.net/home.php

The second is a free program called Caustic.  It's free to try on Android and iOS I think, but from what little I've tried, the PC version appears to be entirely free, because the save and export functions aren't locked.  I haven't used it enough to really give you an opinion, but it looks very streamlined and feels like a mobile app almost.  It seems rather fully featured and only takes up 27 megabytes of hard drive space.  http://www.singlecellsoftware.com/caustic

Hope this helps!

I did make a few of my own songs and a bunch of remixes, but I can;t actually do anything big until I get the money to buy some good software, but it can be a lot of fun.

I'm really into it, and I've been doing it for a few years now. My earlier works were quite interesting, being very minimal and alternative. I've now come to incorporate a lot more body which leads to some dance-able and enjoyable tunes. I use a variety of equipment and software to make songs with. You can listen to it here or there.

Ever hear of the game "Cave Story"?
It had a program they used to make the 8-bit soundtrack, or whatev. I got into doing that a lot.
So, as far as electronic music goes, I've never done anything with synth and don't actually know any of the programs I've seen mentioned on here... but I mean, I definitely have strategies for making electronic music.
I guess I'll kick off strategies? Not sure if this is what you mean, and I am by no means a pro at this... but hey, can't hurt to say something, right?
I usually lay down a beat first and try to come up with hooks. I come up with two or so main melodies and then build all the rest of the music around them.
In more advanced terms, I often do a theme-and-variations or ABA' format.
I'm assuming if you're writing electronic music you know something about music theory? I often pick a chord progression and start out with just the bass line, adding another line/instrument every four to eight measures until I have all my instruments in, and then I just try to build emotion and stuff from there on.
Anyhow, I think everyone has their own way, and a lot of what I do is just plain old common sense... but hey, can't win em all, eh?

Recently I got Fruity Loops Studio and this made producing music much easier for me. Mainly because of the automatic sample slicer and the easy to use piano roll and song mixer.

Here is an early version of a song I am working on. I recommend reading the description too.

EDIT: Embed codes don't work

I'll have to give electronic music a try, I've only ever played the recorder and guitar before. Who knows, it might be easier for me to make electronic music than to play actual instruments *Lifts shoulder*.

I've been making Electronic Music for 5 years in FL Studio. I originally bought version 8 for $60 (coupon used) and now I have FLStudio11 thanks to free updates! also I upgraded to Signature Bundle which was like a $200 upgrade. I have an entire plethora of songs which you can check out from my music thread.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
