sop281 : In the game it is impossible for Pokémon to hold another item when it's holding a mega stone, even when it has mega evolved. Megastones cannot be tricked knocked off or stolen.

However, this is allowed on Pokémon Showdown and I have no idea why. I believe there was no new rules added before your match. We have to wait to see what's happens.

pokemon x : My Charizard did have the mega stone, although I guess that couldn't really be proved unless you could see the hold items from the replay video. That new rule is a good idea, though. But like cnw said, I have no idea why this was allowed. It seems odd that where something like Sand Attack is looked down upon lets you do this.
