First of all, I'm so extremely sorry for this delay. Internet was down most of the weekend and I was unable to get the site back up to transfer the backed up files to the new server. However, it is definitely worth the wait, this new server feels a lot faster so far. I know there's not a lot of traffic right now but I've never seen the board ever load this fast, hopefully this is permanent.


Here are a few specs comparing the old server with the new:

NEW SERVER
Windows Web Server 2008
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13 GHz (2 processors)
2 GB RAM (upgradable to 4 gb without having to transfer servers)
Price: $150 a month


OLD SERVER
Windows 2003 Web Edition
Pentium 3.0 GHz (single processor)
2 GB RAM
Price: $100 a month


Hard drive is same on both which is 120 GB and bandwidth the same at 1 TB a month.


I'll be keeping this new server until I can get all the retro game rooms games migrated to a file hosting site or a seperate server and at that time, I'd downgrade the main server but since that'll be a massive job which will require a lot of time to manually transfer all the files to another host and also update all the links in the retro game room, that's not something I'm focusing on for now.


EDIT: Yeah, up late again but like last time, wasn't going to sleep until I finished the job - also want to point out that if the server starts to get a lot of strain again, I can simply upgrade to 4 GB of RAM without having to migrate servers, though I don't think we'll get to that point since I'll be working on hosting all the RGR files on a separate server/host so that we board users don't have to suffer from the strain of the RGR.

Good work getting it back up tonight This new server does appear a lot faster now pages load instantly but will have to wait till daytime to see how well it really works. Glad it's back up

It is a lot faster atm I think and all seems to be fine.
One thing that has changed though is the little picture that comes up next to the url in the browser and comes up if you bookmark the site etc. Well it's gone.

And here I thought the internet farted and Vizzed Board was the unlucky one to be caught downwind.

Wow, this is fast. It used to be it took forever to look at peoples profiles, but now, its instant. Price sucks though, I could never jump from $100/mon to $150/mon, When the bill came, i'd just freak.

yeah, it's been quite fast for me so far too.

We'll see how it goes when 50+ people are on the board... but for now it's quite fast.

Ya, 50 people, wait, is it slower then? But anyway, I just rated a game I beat, and the load took like 3 minutes. But thats the only problem ive experienced so far. (the game was Pitfall)

It's 12:11 PM, and this board's running great so far. Pages load instantly now. ^^

loading this thread took a while.... but maybe it's not recognizing the pictures in the cache cause the server moved or something?

I dunno.... I'd be interested in seeing how fast threads load without layouts.... I should test that

[edit] not any faster.... not sure what is slow about loading threads... but I don't see the problem on any other page so far.

wow, I noticed the speed right away

It really sucked, because land line issues made it to where I couldn't access, then I got 404. It was worth it though, because the new server is INCREDIBLY fast.

I'm still getting a lot of lag in the thread.php pages...

everything else is good... not sure what the problem is with the code on that page that is making it slow... but I'm getting 3+ seconds to load thread.php and under 0.5 seconds to load anything else I've come across.

I'm mostly using newreply.php, but I tested thread.php and it's really slow.

Seems like it's more of a problem with the code there.

Yeah thread.php must have some bad code which I'll have to look into.
