Well I just opened the door..and.  There were a man and a women asking me If I have found jesus yet.....

I'm not against christians at all but I'm muslim my self.

They asked me what I thought of the bible and stuff. It felt like they were talking to me for a  hour while it was actually just 5 minutes. I can't imagine How my friend will react. ( We live in the same street) Hahaha.

What do you think of these people? I don't really know what. They gave me something which said What do you think of the bible? I really did not care to read more of it. No hate ^^ I have some friends that are  christian And I have no problem with it.

I really hope no christians get mad at me for this, but I really don't care for the bible. I was once a Muslim, but then I converted to Atheism. Atheism made more sense to me. And about those people, were they forcing christianity on you? If they were forcing it on you, then I wouldn't really care for them, but If they were just expressing their faith, then I would consider them good people, unless you yourself didn't want to hear it. These are my beliefs, and I respect yours!

Just depends on their attitude. In my town, it isn't uncommon to see them. What I find weird is that I have never seen girls/women doing this, and they are always in pairs. You see the two teenage boys in black slacks, white button up shirt, and a backpack. Why do I always see them in pairs, and why are they always teenage boys? Anyone know the answer to this?

But that is slightly off topic. I have had some that were more than respectful when I said I wasn't going to be converting. Others, not so respectful. For example, I was walking my dogs, and crossed by the pair on the sidewalk. They stopped, pulled out pamphlets, and started going on and on. I said nicely that I wasn't really interested and I was just trying to walk my dogs. They took that as me saying I was busy at the moment, but would love to hear more at another time, so they kept hounding me for my address so they could talk to my wife and I in more detail. I kept saying that I wasn't interested and that I did not want them coming to my place. Well, they often walked around the neighborhood, so it was only a matter of time that they saw me leave my place on a daily dog walk. So when they knew where I lived, they came to my door later that day. I asked them to leave and just shut the door. They came a few times over the next couple weeks. The one that REALLY ticked me off was when there was a knock at our door at around midnight. I got out of bed, looked through the peephole, and it was those two kids. At almost midnight. Kinda of freaked out, I didn't open the door. But I said through the door that it was not alright to come at this hour, the repeated visits was harassment, I knew where one of them lived, and would call the cops if they came to my door again.

Never had them try to talk to me again. Those are the types that I despise.

Allow me to preface this post by saying, I am a Christian. And yes, I have similar done things, but far less invasive. I typically just invite people to church, and if they want to talk, I talk with them. If not, I respect them, and walk away. Before I was a Christian, I had people try to force things on me, and it never worked, it just made everyone in the situation feel awkward. lol

Now, I obviously have no problems with it. In fact, I respect the ones that respect the wishes of others. One famous quote (from an Atheist, no less) went something like this: When asked if he was annoyed by Christians talking to him about Jesus, he replied "Not at all. Someone would have to really hate me if they thought I was going to hell, and they didn't even try to help me avoid it."

That couldn't be any more correct. If someone believes in a place of eternal burning and torment, how much must they hate you if they never even bother to express that to you, and let you know that there is a way to avoid going there?

So yes, people like this are extremely annoying IF they don't respect you. If they don't force it on you, and they're respectful of your wishes, then they're simply trying to help, and honestly deserve respect for that. Trust me, it isn't easy talking to a complete stranger like that.

Finally, I would like to say that unlike I'm often stereotyped, I have a good amount of respect for atheists, and any other person with a religious opinion that isn't in agreement with mine. We should all be tolerant and respectful of one another. If we aren't then we're all just a bunch of hypocrites in the end, Christian or Muslim, believer or atheist.

juuldude : No, I doubt they were Jehovah's witnesses. They wouldn't try to get you to Believe in Jesus, they would talk about Jehovah.

rcarter2 :

The boys you're seeing are mormons, and that is their uniform for missionaries. They're always between 20 and 25. And I totally agree with the "it depends on attitude".

If they're older, they're most likely Jehovah's Witness. The pamphlet will nearly always have a thick, yellow boarder. It will definitely say "WatchTower" somewhere.

Txgangsta : Yes, they were Morman. Completely forgot to mention that they talked about Jesus being a savior, but God eventually sent another prophet named Joseph Smith.

rcarter2 :

Ya, their religion is a bit weird. At first, I thought the people were simply prejudice against them. I've done 4 separate 9 week studies with their missionaries plus personal research. The rumors are totally true, and historical accounts do not add up. The best example is about the validity of the golden plates which were translated into the book of mormon. There are the "testimony of the three" and "the testimony of the eight" right at the very beginning which include the signatures of those who saw the golden plates. Except not. 10 of 11 were excommunicated for saying they never existed. The 11th guy admitted that he only saw the golden plates with his "spiritual eyes".

And that stuff is everywhere. It's very obviously built on lies.

Txgangsta : I prefer not to classify ones religious belief as weird or lies, not matter how strange it seems to me. As for the weirdness, Christianity believes things that are just as unbelievable as pretty much any other religion. As for the lies, all Christianity has is one book with no tangible testimony as to whether or not it really happened. Granted, the book of Mormon was written in a much more recent period where testimonies were documented, but having even one signature is more signatures than the Bible has. We have no proof and no tangible evidence that anything in the Bible is real, so we are really in no place to say our religion has more non-faith based validity than any other.

As a rule, I dislike the door-to-door salesmen type. Whether you're selling kitchen utensils or the Mormon faith, it's just bad advertising. Even more so today, people dislike being bothered by strangers in their own home. Unless you're the new neighbors and you're bringing cookies.

Pamphlets also irk me, as I consider them to be outdated forms of evangelism. They worked well for many living in the modern age, but in a postmodern culture people are much more likely to listen to the experiences of their friends, or even to seek out answers themselves, than they are to take the words of a pamphlet as truth.

I believe this kind of press for a religion or sect ends up mainly leaving people with a bad aftertaste of whatever that faith may be. It may bring some to conversion, but alienates many more. There has to be a better way to attract others to a religion.

rcarter2 :

The book of mormon was in the 1800s, and it's validation is extremely questionable because of all the data we still have. Those that criticized the biblical stories didn't exist until long after. Celsus was an early critic, but he actually asserts that Jesus existed, taught, and even performed miracles (but they were just not from God). So, 200 years afterward, there at least were many supporting factors to Christianity. To Mormons, there was so much drama it's nearly a soap opera.

But your right, I probably should not call the religion "based on lies" or anything like that. At the very least, it is offensive.
