Why are we assuming that a man can be great? I think we all suck. Kennedy had sex with whatever would let him, Ghandi was self-righteous and his non-violent protests didn't actually win India's independence. Malcolm X is a racist and violent, honestly no different than the violent, racist white. King and Frankl lived through a hard time (black racism vs concentration camps) and came out well, but they're ultimately no different than anyone else who fought for race rights. Freud is really dumb and just relates everything to sex. No serious psychologist operates around his scheme anymore.

I would say Nelson Mandela, but even he's not perfect. But a great person isn't a person that doesn't make mistakes but is able to take responsibility for them and move on.

Since allah is simply arabic for god, and in christianity jesus is part of the trinity (making him the same guy as god(coupled with the fact muslims consider jesus a prophet[confused yet])), It would still stand.
Although he would probably not say jesus as he wouldnt place a prophet above god. That being said, the question was greatest man, and god is not (assuming he was real) a man. And since jesus is part of the trinity, neither is he a man.
Hence the answer is infact incorrect anyway.
As for declaring the muhamed the greatest man, many muslims would, but a lot wouldnt. Idolising anyone but god is frowned upon by most hardliners, much in the way as in christianity you were forbiden from worshiping false gods. In mali, muslims destroyed several islaic shrines stating they idolised prophets instead of god.

thenumberone : I can understand, that would be like honouring Maria and Joseph only instead of Jesus. I didn't know all these things since I'm not really the religious know it all, so thanks!
What I do know though is that Buddha wanted to experience life as good as possible and lived with rich people and poor people and found out that you shouldn't be rich or poor in live, but that you should live between poor and rich. That's something I read in a comic book about his life before he became a god, and it was really nice to read.

Buddha is interesting, he is the only religious founder I know of that neither claimed to be a god, or to speak for one. He certainly seemed to be a pretty good man. In Buddhism there isn't actually any god, simply spirituality.
As for living with rich and poor, Buddha actually suggested it was pointless to focus on material gain since it merely detracted from life's real purpose and took you away from the enlightened path. equally he felt wealth corrupted people.

Essentially it advocates living a simple life. Christianity advocates the same but most people ignore it.

Im not a religious know it all either, but I know enough to summarise most religions.

juuldude : I knew that Allah is the name for God, and that Muhammed was his prophet (and a man - Allah wasn't a man); according to my believe, Jesus is God and became a man, thus making him the greatest man who ever lived. After he was crucified for the sins of humanity, he was resurrected and now reigns in Heaven as the Savior of humanity.

Why?  Since the fall of man in Genesis 3:21-23, the only way to be made right with God has been the blood of an innocent sacrifice.  See in the Bible Leviticus 9:2; Numbers 28:19; Deuteronomy 15:21; Hebrews 9:22. Jesus was the final, perfect sacrifice that satisfied forever God's wrath against sin (Hebrews 10:14). His divine nature made Him fit for the work of Redeemer; His human body allowed Him to shed the blood necessary to redeem ("to buy out"). No human being with a sin nature could pay such a debt. No one else could meet the requirements to become the sacrifice for the sins of the whole world (Matthew 26:28;1 John 2:2). If Jesus were merely a good man as some claim, then He had a sin nature and was not perfect. In that case, His death and resurrection would have no power to save anyone.  Because Jesus was God in the flesh, He alone could pay the debt we owed to God. His victory over death and the grave won the victory for everyone who puts their trust in Him (John 1:12;1 Corinthians 15:3-4,17).  That's why He is the only man who walked this earth that was, still is and will be forever great.

tRIUNE : That sounds a big confusing but I can see what you mean, Jesus sacrificed himself to become God which is pretty interesting. I would pick Jesus over Allah if you look at him that way, but I think that the other gods are pretty cool too. I'm still not sure who is my number one, every god has its ups and downs, even though that might sound a bit weird.

While those men did do some great things they aren't perfect. JFK cheated on his wife with many women. I don't know about the whole Gandhi not winning India's independence because I'm quite sure he did. And Malcom X as far as I know was a victim of racism and hated the ones who oppressed him. To hate the oppressor may not be a crime but to hate isn't right.

To pick the greatest man that ever lived is impossible. No man is without sin. Take people like Nelson Mandela for instance; he was a terrorist before he changed his ways to non violent protests.

The only man I believe to be perfect is Prophet Muhammad (SAW). That's my religious belief but to pick a normal man is impossible. Like I said before "no man is without sin, and no achievement too great".
