They all have pretty much the same thing in them, with MM being the exception. Zelda is a great dungeon crawling game and all, but the story I find lacking sometimes, especially as a writer I see it. I think that part of the problem is the formula, and yeah, if it ain't broke, then don't fix it, but. . . after playing some more, and better midevil games. . . Zelda begins to fail to compare.

It's the same thing to often, and the soldiers of Hyrule do nothing.

At least in Zelda 1, there wasn't much of a populace, in fact, I doubt that they even had a castle. The settings of the game made sense. But now, Link goes through a lot of the same number.

Get three cookies.

Get master sword to beat Gannon.

oh no that didn't work!

go get five more things.

Maybe I'm complaining to much, and I'd hate to leave this on a negative note, but why is it hard for me to like zelda? maybe it's a good thing that I'm liking Mount & Blade more though, it has certainly opened my eyes up regarding PC game making. ^^"

Maybe I just need to play Hyrule warriors.

I can't honestly say that I agree, but I can see that there are some changes that need to be made. I do think adding a different story would be a good start, as well as changing up some elements like how many items need to be gathered, or how many dungeons there are.

Honestly, I think your taste in games is just changing, as Zelda and Mount and Blade can't be compared. It's like trying to compare Harvest Moon to Mario Bros --there's not enough common ground to do it accurately. Zelda is an Action/RPG, and Mount and Blade is a war game. Apples and oranges, you know?

Sad as it may be, and hard as it can be to accept, it just sounds like this long time favorite of yours no longer appeals to your newly changed game preferences. It happens to all of us from time to time. I actually went through a phase where I didn't enjoy Harvest Moon all that much, and that only changed back recently. On the other hand though, I used to love Pokemon, and turn based RPG's in general, but now I don't like either at all; they bore me to no end.

That said, maybe you just need a break from Zelda. Or maybe you just don't like that style of game anymore. Who knows? Time will tell, I suppose.

Eirinn :

Maybe I do need a break, but for how long? years?!

Will I ever like Zelda again?

Everything gets old at some point. I guess that it's just not fresh enough. Sometimes boredom of a game comes from playing it to heavily- which I'm starting to get with Mount & Blade. I should go back to my 1 hour limit, and see if that does it for me.

As for Zelda, I really exhausted that game a while back, ussually just to test out those crazy glitches in Ocarina of Time.

One thing that I have to learn sooner or later is to not just exhaust games like I do and take them a little slower perhaps?

Maybe I spend to much time playing games?

On the other hand, I have not really played that many games, let alone beat them. I've probably put 100 hours into OOt and MM each, plus 80 or even more into TP.

Maybe this is the way it just has to be. I suppose I shall move on, there are always new games out there, but will I ever find one as good as zelda.

It's possible that you're temporarily burnt out on it. I think that's what happened with me on Harvest Moon games a while back: I put hours and hours into Friends of Mineral Town and just quit one day. It wasn't until I tried A Tale of Two Towns that I started really enjoying Harvest Moon again (Tale of Two Towns is vastly different from any Harvest Moon game before it. It doesn't even feel like the same franchise). Now I like FoMT again, and all HM games. So maybe you'll just be sitting around one day and find yourself wanting to play it again?

As for the time, who knows? It took me around a year to get back into HM.

Perhaps one way to test whether you're tired of the repetition for now, or just don't like it anymore, would be to play a game simillar to it? That way you get simillar gameplay, but a fresh approach to the game as a whole. I don't know. If you try that, I could recommend a game so simillar to Zelda that Nintendo almost had grounds to sue. lol The main difference being that this game insulted Nintendo by taking their Zelda formula and using it to show them how they should be making Zelda games. It's one thing for someone to rip your idea off, and it's another thing entirely for them to rip your idea off and do it better than you did. xD

But yeah, maybe you'll like it again sometime, but until then I'd suggest trying new genres. Maybe an RTS like Fire Emblem? Or a Stealth shooter like Winback? Or just whatever you don't normally play. Hopefully you come back to it eventually; I need a Zelda fanatic to talk to.

Don't worry stuff like this happens all the time, in fact yesterday I came on to play Ocarina of Time to try to beat a level I was stuck on for a while, and it just felt like I lost my taste in it. But yes I agree If you take a break for a few months or so you should be able to play it and not be bored. I'm sorry if what I said doesn't work for you but it does work for me. If you were in the 90's again you would play it and never get bored. But sadly we can not do that.

To be honest, I'm not bored of the zelda series. What am waiting for is that they make MM to HD. every zelda games has almost the same quest except for MM but it's story line is 10/10 for me.

Looking at the other comments here, I do have to point out that WW and TP did a good job making original twists on the story. They felt fairly fresh for the series. Now if only I could have tolerated the changes in WW...

Hopefully we get some new stuff that changes things up a bit, but doesn't mess the game up. I still enjoy what we have though.

Honestly, I could go for a Zelda esque game probably, but on the other hand, I never wanted to play Mount & Blade in the first place, ya see, I wanted to finish all my single player games, and just put them up so that I could spend more time working on our PC game, and my RPgs on Vizzed.

But my friend in real life bought the game for bombchu link on steam. He saw how badly me and bomb wanted the game, and just bought it for us just like that. So, bomb tried it, and quit after a while, but I loved the game! I wanted to rage quit at times, but I've kept coming back, it's just all the stuff that you can do.

right now I'm (trying) to make time for mega man. it's a nice NES classic.

I'm also trying to finish Kid Icarus for the NES, and I'm really liking it, it's like a cousin to The legend of Zelda, and I enjoy it quite a bit, my only complaint is the the game reuses a bit much for my tastes.

I would probably really enjoy a Zelda esque game set in a different world, (provided there aren't a bunch of awful great faries, and other trash in the game!)

In fact, the forumula for the game that I'm working on has some similar things, but is really quite different too.

Zelda blew me away from the NES.

I had never played such an awesome game where you could upgrade you Health, use different weapons and such. The free explorable and open overworld.

When I made the Stone legion mod, I made sure to play up my favorite parts of Zelda 1.

Freely explorable overworld.

Open ended use of items- raft and step ladder not forced on you!

And do dungeons in any order that you want!

Did you ever finish that hack?

Now though, I kindof see dungeons as boring, not quite the same thing as scaling seige ladders up into an enemy castle. Or helping your troops safely move a seige tower in place.

Then breaking through that first line of defense. . .

Just staying alive to increase your troops moral, cause if you go down, your troops fight a lot worse.

But anyways, I will try to get into Zelda again when the next game comes out, I've beaten my favorite twice each, so maybe they're burnt out at this point. Hopefully with the new game, I'll be loving it again, but if they dare use a Wind waker style. . . I dunno.

One thing I would really like to see from Nintend is for them to expand the Zelda World. Comon, what's outside this great kingdom called Hyrule? I wanna know!

Oh well, there's always the Zelda RP, I can do what I want with that.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
