I'm currently starting with Mega man 1. And I like it as an NES title. It is fun, but it sure is hardcore. Can't say much for story yet. I suppose the story will pick up in the later Mega man titles kinda like the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

I tried Star Fox 64 on a whim, since everyone talked about how it was a great N64 title, and I loved it. So yeah, if Megaman is so highly praised I'll give it a try as well.

The story does start to pick up through the classic Mega Man NES titles but they do get harder and harder as time goes by. More and more of the story gets covered and initially ends with MM8 on the playstation with MM7 on the Super Nintendo. All of them are honestly great and worth trying if you can handle trial and error deaths and strats on beating Wily and his horde of Robot Masters.

Now if you want to take it an extra step further and go into my most favorite series ever, then go ahead and play Mega Man X for the SNES. X1-3 are on the Super Nintendo while X4-6 are on the Playstation. I loved that Mega Man universe over all overs but all of them have my love.

"Can't say much for story yet. I suppose the story will pick up in the later Mega man titles kinda like the Sonic the Hedgehog series." Don't get too exited, the Mega Man classics are praised for their platforming heaven and music, really not so much about the story (well, maybe besides Mega Man 3....that is the exception because of Protoman and the ending). There is a rock band however called The Megas that really flesh out the story in a dark and twisted way, especially with their History Repeating albums (REDCOMEOUTSOONCAN'TWAITEEEEEEEEEEE) but that's another story.

That being said, Mega Man 1 is a great place to start. It will surely prepare you for the other classic titles. Personally, I recommend you play 2 and then 3, and then maybe play 9 and 10 on the Wii ware. Those are my favourite Mega Man Classic titles, and you really aren't missing out on the story, but by all means play 1-10 in order to prove me wrong if you wish :p

Mega Man X is like the classic series, only revamped and polished 10 fold, and has a better story line that actually continues after each title. The Battle Network series offer an RPG aspect to the game with live action battles. You don't gain experience, but more of chips to use in your folder as forms of attacks. These have a fairly decent story as well.

Sorry for not being as specific, bit of a Mega Man nerd (if my unchanged layout hasn't said that yet xD) like I said, since you started out with the classic series, try out 2 and then 3, and then give Mega Man X a go, followed by Battle Network 1-3 (I haven't even played 2 yet =3=). I hear the Zero series is also a killer on the story, but I have yet to experience that yet.

Man, so many Mega Man games to play.

So so many o3o

My first Mega Man game to play all the way through was Mega Man 8 on the PS1, but Mega Man Legends is what got me hooked on the franchise.  Made me go back and play all the originals more in depth.

The megaman game I recommend you play first is any of the Megaman games from the Megaman Zero series.(Megaman Zero 3 is my favorite). But if your looking for a megaman game that involves mostly the blue bomber himself then i'd recommend Megaman & Bass for the game boy advanced system. In Megaman and Bass you can choose to play as Megaman or Bass and it really is a good Megaman game for first time Megaman gamers like yourself.

I've been trying to get into the Mega Man series, and I've found that Mega Man X is a good start. Of course, I still don't know much about the games and there might be better ones.

If there's one game you should start with, it's the one that started it all.

Mega Man 1 isn't too bad, as long as you know the basic Mega Man principles. There are a few tricky parts (like the hardest jump in the game, which you can find in Wily Stage 4) and nuisances (like a Big Eye appearing in front of every stage's boss door except Bomb Man and Fire Man), but a little practice and you'll defeat him.

One problem is that there are no passwords in this game, so you'd have to start from the very beginning if you restart. It has to be conpleted in one run.

Enjoy Mega Man 1, and may it be the catalyst that gets you to play many more Mega Man games.

Darkpower508 :

Okay, I'll try the NES series and just go my way up from there than. I heard that the zero games have pretty good story. I'll probably play it on Wii virtual console since I like to use a controller. Thanks to the both of you for the info. and yeah, I noticed you haven't changed your layout Darky.

Maybe I'll get a megaman layout someday, but I really love this one.

megamanmaniac :

No passwords may suck for me, so I may have to emulate it after paying for it on the Wii. Then I'll probably use an Xbox 360 controller. And yeah, I love basic platforming games. I enjoyed Cave Story although my brother spoiled the whole story for me, (I watched him play it. so yeah. ).

I would suggest playing Mega Man 10 first, as it is the easiest, but in the NES library, I would start with Mega Man 5. It has the easiest robot masters to defeat.

You should try out Mega Man 2 on Normal mode because it is very easy when you get the Metal Blade from Metal Man, which should be the first weapon that you get.
