Good day fellow Vizzed members.

I guess I'm making this thread to vent some anger over some of my classmates (new and old). Well not really my classmates per se, but just on how they have to comment on every single thing that the teacher says.

Anyways I'm sure that everyone here went to class with someone who every 5 minutes had to ask an obvious question or had to comment on something the teacher said. Here is a well known example from my school in the past.

So my teacher hands out a study guide for a test (this was biology) and says that everything that we needed to know for the test will be on the study guide. So then this one kid raises his hand and starts asking questions about whether certain topics or facts will be on the test. Of course the teacher always said to check the study guide even thou none of what this kid was asking was on the study guide. And then he would ask very obvious questions like "How long will the test take?" If the class period lasts only an hour, I'm sure that is how long the test will take. Another one would be "how long should we answer a short answer question?" I mean isn't it obvious that a short answer question should be...a short answer question. Its not like your writing an essay as I'm sure the teacher would say that an essay would be included.

I should most likely stop as I'm kind of ranting. But I shall still ask this question to the community.

Did you ever had a kid in class that had to comment on everything or ask a lot of obvious questions? Did you get annoyed by it? Did you ever do something similar?

deg2000 : What I mean by annoys everybody is that his questions make class last longer. For example where I went to school, kids didn't want to stay on a subject for a very long time, they just wanted the teacher to breeze through notes/lecture/speech for...

1. So that class ends sooner
2. To start group work so that they can get into their little groups and talk about what they want to talk about (relationships, sports, etc.)
3. They hate the topic cause its long, boring, and unimportant for practical reasons (meaning something that you'll need to know/use in everyday life).

So a kid who keeps asking questions about very little details tends to make the lecture last longer then it should, thus for the reasons I said above, his question asking...

1. Makes class last longer.
2. Means that it will take longer to get to group work, thus the groups can't talk about what they want to.
3. Makes the already long and boring lecture last a lot longer.

Hopefully that helps

Asking questions is the best way to learn. It may be obvious to you, but that doesn't mean it is obvious to him. It doesn't annoy me at all. I actually enkoy when a kid asks a stupid question or makes a stupid comment. It makes the class more enjoyable in my opinion.

Question 1) Yes, there was one in my class and he was so annoying. He was also immature and sometimes he was acting like an idoit, jumping around like crazy. I bet he is just stupid, or he has problems. (No offence if he's reading this right now, lol.)

Question 2) Yes, indeed this annoys me by a heck of a lot. And everyone else in the class. Even in the middle of an assignment, he asks a very long question every 20 minutes or so.

Question 3) No, I do not have a past experience with this. And I would never want to be one of these people who don't listen so well and ask a bunch of obvious questions.

----

And if the whole class was filled with those people, I'd rather stare at a wall all day than be at school.

To the first Question: Yes and I still have, because I am still at middle School. He just can`t stay away and "spams" us with stupid questions in Class. Teachers are no exceptions.

To the second Question: Of course I get annoyed by that! He makes everyone annoyed and the Teachers always send him out of the classroom for commenting on every classmate .

And to the third and last Questions: No, I do not bother with something like that. I have a good relation to my classmates and Teachers and I do not want to ruin it by being a annoying blabbermouth!

-Regards

Yes, I do find that annoying. I am a high school student, and there are a few of those students. It really gets on my nerves, and I was never that kind of person, as I think.

I don’t find it annoying because asking questions, even if they are obvious will always help somebody, even the people around them sometimes. Also, if something does seem obvious, it’s not going to be obvious every single time, I have NEVER seen a test with similar length of time or question length multiple times in a year for any class.

Anyone who asks questions because they don't understand is fine.  I have no problem with that because they're trying to understand what they're learning.  They can ask as many questions as they need to feel comfortable.  I do not get annoyed by people who ask questions trying to understand.

If someone asks a question so they can look smart or they can show off... that can be annoying.  But I don't let other people's actions irritate me.  There are always annoying people and you simply wait until they're done.

Same for the comments.  As long as it is not disruptive, I don't care if people have to say things to look smart.  People who say something for the sake of talking and don't add anything can be bothersome.

The trick is to find your inner zen and let that which does not matter truly slide.  Who cares?

Not caring makes your life easier.  It makes you calmer.  It makes you the warm center of the world.

Ah, this happens in pretty much all of my classes. Usually, it comes from the really, really dumb students. The students will frequently not pay attention, or space out, and then ask as many questions as possible. They are also the same students that decide to comment on every little thing the teacher says. It always takes away precious class time, and we are sometimes unable to finish lecture because of the students. It's horrible because then we still have to do homework based off the lecture, yet we didn't learn the material because some people decided to not pay attention.

Oldschool41 : Well I find that annoying sometimes. It annoys me when a kid asks an obvious questions more when a kid comments on a subject. Why? Well let's find out why ! When a teacher is explaining a subject, a kid asks a question so obvious that it's so easy. Why I get disturb? Well when per example a teacher is explaining the same subject every time, a kid asks a very obvious question that as if he knows the answer. Well if he asked a question that I find interesting, I don't find that disturbing. Good thread by the way!

There was a kid in my class who had to comment on everything but he didn't ask obvious questions. He was in my 6th grade English class, my 8th grade Math class, and my 8th grade Science class. I got a little bit annoyed by it in 6th grade, but I got very annoyed by it in 8th grade. He always seemed to be by far the biggest nerd in 8th grade but he got bad or somewhat good grades on most of his assignments that I had to grade.

I don't really have a problem with people who want to ask questions on stuff that doesn't make stuff, as long as it is a good question because a lot of kids in the majority of my classes tend to get off topic and ask ridiculous/personal questions that just prolong the class and make it impossible to concentrate and learn anything.

But if it is a serious question that actually pertains to the material we are learning, then I don't find anything wrong with that, and in most cases, it actually answers or relates to my question or the questions of some of my classmates that actually care to pay attention.

You can tell when someone really wants to know and learn something more in depth, and when someone is just wasting time to get attention, or just get off topic which is plain annoying.

Even still, i just ignore their ignorance and use the extra time to take notes or look things over or whatnot.

Some questions some people ask aren't obvious to everyone. Some people (me included) don't think very hard before asking a question. Maybe its easier to ask then think i guess.

Oldschool41 : I wish I had seen this thread when you created it. Then again, that might not have been a good idea since I was still in the classroom. XD Who knows how frustrated I would have gotten!

Even as I was reading your post, I could feel the annoyance and frustration build up in my chest!  YES!  YES, YES, YES! I couldn't be emphatic enough about how insanely annoying I find such situations.  And trust me, in a classroom like mine.... you get placed in a situation like that at LEAST once an hour!  I used to always reply back sarcastically, but as I grew more experienced, I learned to usually tolerate it with a polite smile and by answering the questions truthfully.

In the adult world though, I have less tolerance for it.... and yet I'm also a lot less inclined to say anything.  I'm terribly non-assertive, so I usually just vent to my family or online friends about their stupidity and how it annoyed me. XD
