I went to see The LEGO Movie today with my Mother and brother, Mickey.  My brother looked forward to seeing this movie, to a fault.  He kept pleading with Mother to take him to this movie, but not at the cost of one of his other activities he liked.  Today it was skating.  He had a choice: Go to the movie, or go skating with friends.  Mother persuaded him that it was a good idea to see The LEGO Movie instead.  I’m so glad she did.

I was skeptical of the movie at first: I had seen the glowing user and critical reviews, but felt it might disappoint me.  I had seen the ending to Ninjago, and seriously doubted the movie would deliver a clear, positive message that Ninjago didn’t give.  I also read “rude humor” and assumed the worst.  I had seen the trailer, I knew there would be a butt joke in the movie, so why in the world would I go to see it?

I’m pleased to say that scene with the butt joke was the very nearly only part of the movie I was displeased with.

The movie was remarkable: LEGO figurines participating in slapstick comedy at its best.  It tied in to all sorts of LEGO franchises without going too far.  It was funny throughout, with few attempts at humor failing to impress me.  I had played LEGO games, watched LEGO movies, and as I have stated, have seen Ninjago (and liked Bionicle back in the day), but they all have failed to impress me in most departments besides animation and replayability (the LEGO games are known for lots of collectible characters, bricks, art, and the like).  This movie impressed me in just about every way, and I really cared about the characters.

But the ending is what nailed it.  Without the ending, it would have simply been a humorous, interesting movie with interesting characters.  The ending made me cry in the best way possible.  I won’t spoil it for those going to see the movie, but everything in the movie set up the ending so well, better than most non-animated movies can do, due to its universality and originality.  I will say that they break the fourth wall in a way that’s only been done by one other movie in my memory, and much more irreverently at that.  I won’t spoil what movie that is, though ;-D

I came away with my regrets and resolutions clearer than they had been in a long time.  I came away wanting to be a better brother and son.  And I came away wanting to spend so much quality time with my family to make up for the times I’ve skipped out.

For those of you who have ever picked up a Lego, GO SEE THIS MOVIE.  You will not regret it.

mourinhosgum : Yeah, my favorite part is the ending.  I'm a sentimental guy, so I cried at the ending.  Everything built up to it really well, too.  I liked the dig on Starbucks and the time that Emmet builds that thing that he is told is useless that ends up being useful.  I really liked the whole movie.  I can't name my favorite joke on hear to avoid spoilers.

I have learned so much from this movie, I can't recommend it enough.

In the end, we're all blocks. And Will Farrel is against that idea. But we have to stop Will Farrel from entering our heads and be our own blocks.

The meaning was very deep; I nearly cried myself.

However I didn't necessarily like the movie itself. The comedy seemed like a lame filler for the drawn out plot, and the characters just felt a little shallow.

MysteriousPanzer : The characters are somewhat shallow, that's what makes a lot of the humor.  An important message from the movie is that someone that might seem shallow at first can turn out to have much more depth and potential than people give them credit for.  I don't care if I get a big backstory if the message is well presented, and a big backstory wasn't necessary, in my opinion.  We were given just enough to get the humor, the plot, and to care, and not so much that the point of the movie is missed.

Yeah, to be honest I wasn't really expecting much from it either. My brother kept telling me to go with him and he mentioned that they were made by the people that make the games (which apparently isn't true), so I decided to go. That was probably the second best movie I've seen all year (first best was Big Trouble in Little China, that movie was ridiculous).

Yup, it was really entertaining and that Unikitty was about the cutest thing I've seen in my life (even though it's not real), and the meaning was pretty deep. But those Duplos at the end... 6/5

mourinhosgum : Yup, totally. SPACESHIP

I have yet to even watch the movie. I could never really go to the theaters do to some times with money (Its probably out on dvd by now lol) . I like that the animation resembles stop motion. I really would like to see this some day.

I am probably going to go see this movie this weekend if I get the chance, I have always loved legos and I still do, I have about 40 sets underneath my bed right now XD, I am always that way when it comes to movies for the most part, when I see a preview for a movie, i judge the whole movie off of that and then I arrive at the conclusion that this movie is gonna suck, or this will be great! Just based off of the preview, when about a good 85% it is better than I anticipated, I know it sounds cliché, but you can't judge a book by its cover.

I am glad you saw this movie and enjoyed it and I will probably see it soon myself!
