It bothers me, they say rap isn't music either. Dub step is music I don't enjoy, I can say that.

I can't believe how long it's been since I created this thread.

Since January, I've listened to hundreds of hours of Dubstep; They're mostly video game and pop music remixes, but I'll listen to the occasional skrillex song that I enjoy.

I love the repetition in the remixes; they capture the 'essence' of the song. Just those few parts that evokes the most emotion. 

Above all else, I actually like hearing it, which I think is the most important factor.

I can't imagine listening to my music playlist without any Dubstep.

So, yeah. It's been quite a journey.

I'm not sure if it's either. I will say it really isn't a good brand to call music at all. Calling it sound is a bit off as well. I'd say it isn't anything really categorized.

A few years ago I would have said Dub step wasn't real  music. However after stumbling across a couple of really good dub step tracks I changed my opinion. Although its not something I would listen to on a daily basis, I can appreciate the time and effort taken to make the track sound right. So yeah I think dub step can be classed as real music. 

If you can hear it, then it makes a noise.
If it makes a noise for 3-4 minutes, it's a song.
Is Dubstep a noise?
Lets just say:
It's a noise.

I don't really know much about it (heard one or maybe two tracks), but the truth is, music is just an a bunch of arranged sounds. If you use an instrument to make those noises: great. If you use a computer to make those noises: that's fine too. All that makes it music is the fact that it makes noises to a certain tune.

For example, take a string and stretch it, then pluck it. Does that sound like music? No, not really. Now take that same string and add five more strings, then strum them all together a few times. Does that sound like music? Yes! What changed? Nothing but the way that you perceived it.

Really, people just fuss if they hear or see anything new, because that isn't how they did things back in their day. Well...with all due respect, it's called "progress". Maybe it's for the better, or maybe it's for the worse. That's all a matter of opinion, and as shocking as it may seem to some people, there is no such thing as right or wrong opinions on things like what music sounds good.

So yeah, dubstep is music and noise, because arranged sounds/noise is what all music is.

I listen to it on occasion and i believe that all sound is music, just that it differs between person to person

I myself am a big fan of dubstep and house music, and make dubstep music with a friend of mine too.
Dubstep is music, it's part of the EDM family (Electric Dance Music)
For me, dubstep is the best music to listen to, I like other music too though.
It's not like I /only/ listen to dubstep/house.
But yeah, opinions differ.

Though I'm not a particularly big fan of Dubstep myself but I don't hate either I still consider it a form of music. I will say though that making a good dubstep song does take a certain amount of skill.

It is just sound. The thing song that is being dubbed is real music, this so called dubstep is just fake. It is just a bunch of funkey rhythms to the original song.

I think that dubstep is not music, it is sound. I call techno or EDM more of music than dubstep.

Dubstep is it's own kind of music its music with guitar and drums and other instruments just made louder and the sound is changed by a computer so technically it's real music made into different sounds so its a little bit of both but in my opinion its music without words and it's still enjoyable

Welllll, I'm not much into dubstep myself, but I'm a massive fan of other kinds of electronic music (a.k.a. EDM, these days).

I'm mostly into Detroit Techno (the one that started it all), French House/Dance (the sub-genre started by Daft Punk, my favorite band of all time, even though Random Access Memories is kinda meh), chiptunes (the ones composed with REAL old-school soundchips - I particularly love the ones made using the japanese NES's sound expansions and Yamaha's FM line), and all kinds of "hardcore" techno (happy hardcore, trap, reggaeton, noise, ambient... you name it). Dubstep... Well, I don't think I ever listened to real dubstep, really. I work out every Monday and Tuesday, so I'm always exposed to "workout music", which is a kind of eletronic music I absolutely hate! Is it even considered dubstep? :/

However, there is one argument I have against dubstep: It's popular. Yeah, I know that sounds a bit weird, but dubstep got so massively popular these days that it's influencing pop music in all ways. When under good hands, pure/real dubstep can be excellent and a welcome addition to the EDM family (I hope so), but under Nicki Minaj's or Justin Bieber's hands (most of their songs have "dubstep riffs")... Not so much.

Dubstep is basically Sound Effects, so I would call it Sound, and not Real Music.

To be honest, all music is just a bunch of sounds played in tandem. Now I usually find 2 kinds of dubstep. The good kind are ones that actually sound understandable, like this.

As you guess, the first one is in my watch later, while the other is what a call a brain frack.

It's funny, because Music is just sound anyway.
But yes, if  you look hard enough, you can find some really good dubstep that integrates the heavy bass and such with a nice melody.

Just look at the history of music; We've gone from the "classical" of pure instrumental music, to two-minute "pop" songs, to swing and Big Band, to Rock 'n' Roll, the Beatles, Psychedelic/Prog/Glam rock, Metal, Boybands, Synth, etc etc...Imagine what the people of Mozart's era would say to music of, lets say, Metallica? What if the The Big Bopper was still alive, the thoughts he'd have on pop music of today. Let's not forget about Freddie Mercury, amongst others who died before their time, and their reactions to the music of today.

Music has changed so much with each decade, we'll never know what 2040's will bring us - but we can only assume it'll turn more computer-made that will take the fame while live instruments will be set aside for cover/tribute bands.

But to answer the main question:
If Justin Bieber, One Direction, and Rebecca Black can be considered music then Dubstep is music.
