Yes, I think he's around. Now, the question must be raised: Which version? I would say that he is probably in the PS3 version, but I don't know that he is in the PC version. I couldn't say either way on the XBOX 360 or App Store versions.

I think it's pretty clear Herobrine is not in vanilla Minecraft. He's not in the code and it's pretty easy to fake it using mods or skins.

Herobrine does not exist. Notch just uses him to mess around with people sometimes. All though I think the rumor might have started when one guy modded his character and had it so his name did not show up then went to go mining.
