Do you prefer the beats, the music, the sound of a song or do you prefer the lyrics and what they mean?

Which is deeper?

I mean can you really choose between the two,in my opinion they complement each other. If I did have to choose one it would be the lyrics that are deeper because they actually mean something and tell stories and explain things.

To me, I like them both equally. They really do can't really survive without the other, but I don't obsess with either. I can't really decide if you make me choose between the two.

Yeah, lyrics alone would just basically be a poem and just a bunch of words with no one to ding them, while on the other hand, without lyrics, you wouldn't know what to sing and it would be kind of pointless unless you have it memorized in your head. I think they are complementary, but honestly, I don't think one can really go without the other as I said above. But I think that the lyrics and words picked for the song and the person singing/composing the song are equally important as one another. That is just my opinion on it. Good question by the way. You can really come to appreciate both of them.

That really depends. I go for a mixture, I listen to plenty of stuff without lyrics (anime music, video game music, covers, ect.), and I listen to plenty of songs.

As far as the songs go, some of them I go for the sound of it over the lyrics, some of it is the mixture, and some of it the lyrics (things that actually have meaning; a meaning worth hearing).

There is a lot of songs I just used to love the beat to but when I got a bit older I started thinking about the lyrics and sometimes it amazes me how interesting they are and what they can mean! I still just like the beat of some music but hey it's music!

I pretty much always just like the music part of a song. Most of my life's soundtrack is instrumental anyway or made to have a larger portion of sound to lyrics. I like the good old Big Beat, Electronic and some Dance from the 90s up to around 2005. You have your "Future Sound of London", "The Chemical Brothers", and some of "Fatboy Slim".

I could give some track names so you know which ones to try out for yourself if anyone wanted me to.

I'm usually into more of the sounds rather than the lyrics. I don't really like paying much attention to it, since I like to mutlitask while listening to music. But from time to time, I'll focus on the lyrics of a song... very deeply.

It depends I love all sorts of music.  The only music I don't care for is mainstreamed stuff.

If it is made by a true artist it doesn't matter if it has lyrics or not.

I've listen to plenty of orchestral music and accapella (only people singing) and both are wonderful.

You don't need both of them together to make great music.

I go for the music. If it sounds good, it sounds good.

I care for lyrics a great extent, but when a song sounds good and has meaningful or really good lyrics, like David Bowie's Space Oddity or Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, it's a pure sweet spot that I'll like above anything.

It depends on the genre. I like the lyrics as much as the music if it's pop, but for most other songs I listen to the music instead. I never get mad at a song for its lyrics unless it's blatantly racist or sexist.

Well, I pretty much like both the music and the lyrics equally. If a song I'm hearing has a nice beat or tune, I may like it no matter what the lyrics are (if there are any). If the lyrics are meaningful or just catch my attention, I'll most likely enjoy it.

I can hardly hear the lyrics of most of the songs I hear, so I appreciate the music a bit more. Although I equally like knowing the words to the songs I listen to.

It really depends on the song and, occasionally, the genre. Some songs have interesting and/or entertaining lyrics, some have boring lyrics. Normally I prefer the music itself rather than the lyrics, though.

It greatly depends on the song. Some songs I've listened to are not too catchy, yet their lyrics are inspiring and meaningful. Other songs' lyrics are complete rubbish, yet I still love the tune . My favorite kinds, though, are those songs that have both excellent music and lyrics that work together to send a message ^^!

I like the music more than the lyrics. This is because I grew up listening mostly to soundtrack music from movies and games which generally don't have lyrics in them.

Normally I like the music more. No, all of the time. I love the lyrics to some songs like 21 guns, but the music in it is better!
