Okay, so basically, just answer the threads title, what method do you like best for catching shinies? Some people would kill just to get one, its crazy and people are willing to try anything to get their hands on one. Some methods really boost the chances in getting a shiny very generously, especially in x and y they make it  easier.  So post which one you like best, if you are not familiar then I will just give a brief summary of each of the methods and you tell me which one you like best and why.

I am going to start off with the Masuda method:

Basically you just breed two pokemon from two different geographical locations which you can tell that in x when you view the summary of your pokemon. Then you just wait for eggs to be produced and you hatch them like crazy and hopefully find a shiny. It is a rather simple method that increases the chances of getting a shiny by 5, that may have been even raised higher in x and y however.

Chain fishing:

Preferably my method of getting shiny pokemon, even though it is limited to water pokemon, it works. It will require some patience, but it is worth it. It is very simple. You find a good location to fish in using your rod of choice to reel in all kinds of different pokemon. The rocky area behind ambrette town is a good place for this method, hint hint. You find a good spot and stay there and do not move or it will break your chain.

- You cannot reel your rod in too fast or slow or your chain will break
- You cannot move from the space you or in or it will break.
- Not 100% sure but I would make sure you don't have pokemon close to evolving because it might break your chain

Pokeradar chaining

Honestly I like this method the worst, really you go through too much then for what it is worth, so I don't really use this method much. You basically use the radar to look for patches that shake rapidly and you repeatedly do that until you encounter a shiny which will be in a shiny patch. This method is very annoying however, there are so many things that can mess it up

-You can't use the circle pad, you have to use the arrow one because if you don't your chain automatically breaks. This is the biggest reason why people lose their chain.

-You have to reset your chain if you aren't getting anything

Altogether I find this method really annoying and I just think you go through too much trouble than for what its worth, but that is just me.

Friend Safari method:

Just go to the friend safari and look through the patches and see what you can find. Pretty simple and probably the easiest method. Plus you should know what to expect since each friend safari holds 3 pokemon. So your chances go up.

There are a few other methods, but I didn't feel like listing all of them. So those are just some of the methods if you aren't familiar with catching shiny pokemon. Just tell me which one you like to use best and why.

I just throw a pokeball and hope to get lucky! That's my favorite method for catching a shiny.

Regarding the Chain Fishing method, how fast should you be reeling in your rod? Do you mean, like pressing A after a few seconds after you get a bite? Sorry, just a little confused.

Sidewinder : Okay, sorry for the confusion, so you throw in whichever rod you want when chain fishing and you pull it in as soon as you get a bite and an exclamation mark appears above your head. Try to do it as soon as you feel a tug, if you wait even a second later, it will say you were too slow and your chain will break and you ill have to start over.

The same goes for if it goes too fast, there might be sometimes where it is quiet and you aren't getting anything but then you feel like its coming and you real it in too fast and you also have to start over. So timing is everything, just pull it in as soon as you see the exclamation and get a bite. Hope that helps  answer your question.

In Gen V and VI, the Masuda method increases the chances of getting one by 6. I don't think it's a very useful method, though. Considering how many random encounters you can get through in the time it takes to hatch an egg, the increase in probability doesn't seem worth the increase in time. Actually, the best method (in terms of probability per attempt) would be either combining the Masuda method and Shiny Charm (which only works in Gen V), which gives a probability of about .08%, or possibly combining the Shiny Charm with chaining; the formula for shiny probability when chaining is . Since I can't find the usual shiny probability in there, I don't know where to substitute the probability altered by the charm, and of course that's assuming both work at the same time. No matter what you do, the probability will always be incredibly low. I don't think it's worth the time to search for them.

Edited to replace broken image link. It was replaced on Bulbapedia because the last one didn't account for "floor function".

I have never caught a shiny Pokemon myself, but I did see my friend catch one using the chain fishing method, it took him about 6 trys, and I figure I should start trying it out myself.

Yeah, the consecutive fishing method is one of the easiest ways to get shiny pokemon because all you have to do is have a pokemon with suction cups that prevents the message of not even a nibble from showing up. And then you fish like you normally would in one spot without moving, and then reel it in as soon as you get a bite, otherwise if you do it too fast or slow, your chain will break.

Masuda method is another good one in my opinion. The chain method for grass is horrible though and it is too complicated, it just isn't worth it in my opinion, and it takes too long. So consecutive and masuda are the two best in my opinion.
