I'm going to have to go with Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (assuming you'd count it as such). Crash Bandicoot was fun and all, and I've enjoyed other platformers such as Mario and LittleBigPlanet, but I just like Jak and Daxter the most. I'm not sure entirely what it is, but I feel like it has the most polished gameplay and fun mixed into one game.

The best platformer I've ever played is Super Mario 64. It is so addicting, the story-line is well planned out, the gameplay is unique and creative and it has a lot of cool glitches and tricks to perform.

Hmm, I'm not that big a fan of platformer games, so I haven't played too many of them. Of the ones that I have played, I guess I liked a lot of the Mario games. If Super Mario 64 is a platformer game, than that was my favorite, if not, then I guess the New Super Mario Bros.

My favourite would have to be Super Mario World. It has a lot of secrets, it can be very challenging, and it is quite long. In fact, the snes has some of my other most favourite platformers of all time.

Super Mario 64 is my favorite 3D platformer of course that game is almost considered legendairy I can't think of one game that is better then that game and is a 3D platformer.
This is just my opinion of course I might have over exaggerated but it is a impressive game.

I'm with austipokedude. I hated the N64 as a whole but I have to admit Mario 64 was the pinnacle of platforming for me as a gamer. I most of played that game to 100% completion least ten times or more. My favorite level was the clock one for some reason.

A few of my favorites would be Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, and The Hobbit (PS2). As for my absolute favorite, I'll have to go with Super Mario 64 probably, but it's close with The Hobbit. I enjoy a good platformer, but the keyword is good.

Some of my favorite platformers include Super Meat Boy, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, and Super Mario Galaxy (1 and 2).

Super Meat Boy is pretty addicting and funny...loads of entertainment.

Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga was the first Lego game I played, and that was really the first time I was introduced to Lego's signature humorous style, which is highly evident in their games, and apparently, in their T.V. shows as well.

Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 were just both amazing. Probably one of the best sound tracks I have heard in a game too. It was a rather long game, which is pretty good, since good games shouldn't end too quickly. Did I mention the sound track? All the levels were really unique, and the story didn't drag on too much, even with the classic Peach-got-captured-and-Mario-"must"-save-her story line. And I forgot to mention this, but the sound track is way too good.

These games are modern; this being said, the standards for a platformer would be at a high level due to how good platformers, and games in general, are these days. But, I am open to classics and oldies that I never played, and I am pretty sure there will be some really good ones, as some people have already stated above.

Sonic Adventure 2 hands down is my favorite platformer of all time. Before you call me biased, I played the genesis games first.

My favorite platformer has to be Zelda: Skyward Sword (I think it's a platformer, sort of like Mario 3D Land!). It has a great story line and I love the use of the Wii Motion+! I love to have Link motioning my movements exactly how I move the controller. It's amazing how they used the HUD perfectly for my viewing and the Lock-On feature works better than ever. Sadly it's only single player, or else I'd play it with all my friends! Not even the new Zelda for Wii U can top it! I hope they make a game like it in the future, maybe even one for the 3DS!

_DJDoubleD_ : Just would like to point out that that isn't a platformer, it is an adventure/puzzle game. I'm right aren't I? I believe that was it.

Platformers are my favorite genre of video games so this is a really hard question for me to answer. I like 2D platformers much better than 3D. The Psx and N64 really turned me off 3D, most of them suffer from terrible camera angles and just don't play as good.

Ok enough stalling. My favorite would have to be Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis. I think that game is everything a good platformer should be.

Probably Super Mario Galaxy. The platforming was tight, yet fluid, and the game had really diverse worlds. It had the same heart and soul that Mario World had, and it's another one of the best platformers ever
