Have you ever had a really bad storm in your area? One that did a lot of damage or that you remember very vividly? You can tell everyone about it here!

Well I have two stories. Here we go.

I was on a cruise ship to Canada during Hurricane Irene. Yeah. A cruise ship. During a hurricane. Let that sink in. Half of the people that were supposed to be on the ship didn't even show up (which was probably the smart and safe thing to do). It was pretty scary and uncomfortable. The trip was very rough. There were a lot of waves. I remember one morning we were eating breakfast and we saw a wave hit the window. We were on the sixth deck. So yeah, lots of Dramamine was used on that trip.

Story number two:

As many of you know, I live in New York. Many of you probably also know about a hurricane named Hurricane Sandy that did some serious damage to New York not that long ago. Compared to some people, we actually got lucky. That doesn't mean we were unaffected though. It was very scary. Our fence blew over and was completely destroyed into little pieces. In other words, it pretty much exploded. We actually had to go out, during the storm, and pick up all of the pieces so that they didn't fly into people's windows and what not. I am very light, only 95 pounds, so I literally almost blew away. The wind knocked me down a few times. As soon as we got back in, our tree fell into the middle of the road, so we had to go back out and move it so the few people brave enough to drive could get through. Exhausted, we went back in side just in time for the power to go out. Fortunately, my mom was prepared. She bought tons of candles, batteries, and two lighters and had them all sitting on the counter. We had not power for 3 days or so. It was uncomfortable, but we survived. We went over to my grandparents house because they have a generator. And, of course, we ate all of the ice cream in the freezer because it would be a shame to waste it all!

What are your storm experiences?

Super storm Sandy is definitely going to be on my list.

Luckily, my neighborhood was not hit too much, but there really was some extensive damage, and power outages for at least 5+ days. Many trees prevented roads to be crossed, and several trees actually fell down near the school and blocking many entrances and exits. Therefore, school was canceled, and we were all advised to stay inside for the remainder of the storm.

Hurricane Irene was pretty big as well. I do not remember it well, but I do remember the fact that my neighbors all had trees in their houses. Two trees fell on my neighbor on the right, one to my left. Several trees fell in my backyard, but that's about it.

There was a blizzard in my state early on the year, around February or so. Four days of school were canceled. The Board of Ed was considering taking out February break, since there was an earlier snow day, accounting for five missed days, but in the end, they just tacked on five extra days at the end of the year.

In 2011, I think that's when Irene occurred, there was a lot of record rain fall and heat that year. Lot of flooding in my area, and of course, Irene and a few Nor'Easters as well. Fun.

Well it won't be anything like  hurricanes. But where i live there was a couple really bad floods by my school. Like the water was inbetween 3-6 feet high.
Also, before i was born there was apparently a horrible blizzard that destroyed lots of stuff.

Well, there's a few I could put down here. Two years ago, my neighborhood got over 2 feet of rain. Which that in itself isn't really bad. But in my part of Missouri, the dirt only goes down about a foot or so, then it's all clay and rock. So all that water was just sitting on top of the ground. And it made it's way into my basement, where both my room, and my videogames are! >.< Secondly are tornadoes. If you remember back in 2010, Joplin got decimated, that tornado swept by my city as well. Not as bad, but a few thousand in property damage. And since droughts don't count as storms, that's all I can remember really.

Sidewinder : I have a few questions for you. Firstly, was the blizzard you were talking about named Nemo? We got hit by that too. Secondly, were there still trick-or-treaters in Halloween where you are? Luckily, the hurricane didn't interfere with Halloween where I live.

tgags123 :

Yes, Blizzard Nemo...lol. February of 2013. School closed for quite a while due to Nemo.

And regarding Halloween, it was cancelled to begin with, so the kids in my neighborhood went to a neighboring town (which we are considered rivals with in sports), and they had Halloween there. Afterwards, our town eventually did have Halloween, so double the candy! It was actually pretty nice, but very crazy regarding weather that year.

Hm, well I live in washington, and we had a terrible snow storm. it wouldn't have been that bad, but the snow (or rain, whatever) turned into ice and we couldn't go to school for a week. what made it even worse is the fact that almost no one had power, so no one could really make any food. all the resturants and fast food places in town were jammed packed and most of them had lines. my family had to go downstairs and sit next to the fireplace for awhile. we were lucky. we only lost power for 2 days, but some other people lost it for a week.

tgags123 : Hurricane Ivon . Hit Jamaica with Relentless force . It tore off roofs , struck down light post , and all the other things that happens in a Hurricane . I was little at the time . It also caused a black out and no water was supplied so we had to use a tank . We duck tapes the bottom of the door as to avoid water coming in and flooding the house . I literally never went outside for like a week . It was kinda terrifying but interesting at the same time

Last Year when I just happen to move down where I live now, like a few months later, I happen to have experience a hurricane. Yeah, last year, Hurricane Isaac had made landfall in  my area and it caused a whole lot of flooding and I was without power for a couple days because of the storm.

Yep! I remember one time we had a horrible storm. Me and my mom and sister drove down the road and got into the underground shelter is was so bad. My mom hats underground shelters because she always had to go in them when she was growing up because my grandma and grandpa were very scared of storms and freaked out a lot when it came to me. I love storms though and sense I never really have to go to a shelter this is pretty knew to me! The sight of rain or thunderstorms at all intrigues me.

Yes, I have. In fact, I'm having a moderately severe one right now. I've had to go to the basement many times, but thankfully nothing bad has come from these thunderstorms. Right now I'm having a snow storm.

Well, as a matter of fact, I have experienced Thor's Lightning before. It's not pretty.

On a more serious note, sorta. We've had some blizzards that have blockaded school doors so no one can escape. We also had an incredibly loud and powerful thunderstorm last year.

We had a few big storms where I live. Hurricane Sandy did quite a bit of damage, and there was this one day in 2010 where two tornadoes hit the city and one of them was just a few blocks from my school just an hour after I left.

Of course I have, I have had plenty of really bad storms in the past where the lightning crackled so loud my entire window flashed blue and the house actually shook, that gives you an idea of how powerful the lightning was. I have also had some powerful wind and rain that had actually ripped the tiles on my roof and blown them away, and on that same day, it snapped the tree in my front yard in half and it is still recovering. It was about 2 years ago.  And then there was hurricane Isabella in 2004 or so. My area isn't particularly stormy, but we do get one every once in a while.

In late October 2011 Massachusetts and other New England states got hit really hard by a nor'easter that caused an unusually early record-breaking snowfall. The snow was very dense and heavy, and most trees hadn't lost their leaves yet. The result was that the cumulative weight of the heavy snow on all the leaves snapped branches and toppled trees everywhere, causing large amounts of damage. Power was out all over the place, and it was very cold. My family lost power for 4 days, and it was a miserable experience.

Yes, My area is in Dixie Tornado Alley so spring and fall we have to worry about tornadoes. My area has had a long history of tornadoes. I have been in 3 tornadoes and two were in my county. The first one I was in was on May 7th 1998. A tornado touched down from the road and moved into my neighborhood. It did some damage, taking trees, power lines and ripping siding off of houses. Another one was April 27th 2011 my county had 7 tornadoes in one day. One of them was an EF4 that barely missed my neighborhood it curved before it came in. I thank the Lord Jesus my savior it just missed. However it did a lot of damage down the road.
