hey guys did you here that the makers of mortal kombat and sonic ( Midway and sega) lost the rights so now the people the made the loony toons shows and Nintendo have the rights and i also herd that all sonic games are now going to only be sold on nontendo systems  

Oh wow. I didn't know that, nor did I even expect that to happen. 

I am not really surprised by the exclusive rights of Nintendo...yeah, I guess it is a shame that it will ONLY be on Nintendo systems.

I have not heard about this either, but it makes me think about what had happened with Star Wars and Disney.

Okay so regarding Mortal Kombat Midway lost publishing rights to it in 2009 the only published it NetherRelm studios made it, Warner Brothers is Now publishing there games Because Midway filed for bankruptcy and was Liquidated.
Its a good thing Warner Bros picked up MK and it didn't die with Midway and its pretty cool because Warner Bros. Owns all the rights to DC comics that's why NetherRelm made the new Injustice game which was awesome!

Sega still owns all the rights to Sonic and I'm sure they would never give up there poster character.
As for Nintendo exclusivity they never confirmed that but maybe Sega was shaking some hands at Nintendo and made some promises so Sonic would be in the new smash bros, which is awesome because he was my favorite character next to snake in brawl!

Just wanted to clean up any confusion all of this was compiled by me just using Google, if anyone one has any info if the Nintendo exclusivity is a real thing Post them links! I wanna see that!

So basically Mortal Kombat games are still being made but only under the license of Warner Brothers, am I right? I hope they make a Mortal Kombat 10 rather than anymore DC related games, they are much more fun.
I am not surprised Midway and Sega lost rights. They were really one shot wonders with Mortal Kombat and Sonic the Hedgehog.

sonic23 : It still defeats the object that you can not do fatalities or any other finishing move. That was one of the reasons why I only got there demo.
I do not think it is fair for Nintendo to have exclusivity to Sonic the Hedgehog games. In some sense they need it because they were turned down by Minecraft because the Wii U did not reach 1,000,000 sales in a certain amount of time! So maybe Nintendo will be 3rd party too and they will lose their rights. I can imagine playing Mario on the Xbox Two or maybe even the Xbox One!!

A user of this : There is the success of Mario, Zelda and Pokemon but when you look at the bad ideas they have your opinion changes.
For instance the 2DS was a waste of money. It may of been targeted at those under the age of 7 but it had low sales because under 7s were already using the 3DS.
As I mentioned, the Wii U was turned down by Minecraft because of low sales. Also the Wii U was the first to be released for the next gen of console. When the Xbox One and PS4 is released it will look sort of bad and behind its time, however it is the cheaper alternative.
They have a chance of going third party. It could happen soon, later in life or never. But at the rate Nintendo are going it is almost likely!

MechaMento : I can see where you would come to that conclusion but you need to factor in that Nintendo will never go 3rd party ever, they make to amazing of a product, they may have a small demographic, but there handheld's will always be the best and there consoles will always be bought by those who want a Mario or a Zelda game, those coming to any other console is a pipe dream
 

Sega simply promised Nintendo that they'd make their next 3 Sonic games exclusives. They are not owned by Nintendo, and Nintendo does not own Sonic's rights.

Also, Warner Bros has their own Tv channcels, movie studios and everything, and they made their own game studio by buying out Midway. This happened forever ago though.
