I know that arachnids (such as spiders) are not insects, but do you consider them bugs? I do. I think bug is more of a general term than a scientific term.

tgags123 : Yes. I will tell my parents there is a giant bug ( AKA Giant spider ) that is out in our front porch. I don't think of them as arachnids. It doesn't make a difference to me.

I use to consider it a bug. In first grade my teacher would always tell us a spider is a little bug, but then when I got into second grade my new teacher said its an Arachnid not an insect. My first grade teacher gave me false information!

I think they are bugs. Sure, they aren't insects, but they are still small, weird little guys that crawl around everywhere. I honestly don't think there is much of a difference between the two groups so I just call them bugs.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

I consider them bugs because they crawl around everywhere and look creepy to me. I just really hate them too.

No, I call them spiders. Bugs to me are insects. A spider is an arachnid so I try to avoid calling them a bug. I know some people call them bugs. I guess because I'm a scientists I try to call things the correct way.

I don't call them bugs when I see them because that is not the proper term for them and I know they are part of the arachnid group, but I guess they could still be considered one. I don't ever call them a bug, I just address them as a spider. Just because they crawl around and look creepy doesn't automatically make them a bug XD, so I tend to call them by what they are, an arachnid or a spider. It doesn't really make a difference to me considering I dislike them either way.

Mainly when i think of bugs or insects, I think of something that has wings, buzzes around and has six legs, none of which a spider has XD

I call them bugs, but I don't consider them to be bugs. Arachnids are a whole new level of creepy from bugs. I also think about bugs as insects and spiders as more animal like. I'm getting the shivers just thinking about the larger ones. =P

So, no. I don't.

I am with Eidetic on this. I usually call them bugs, but I know that they are not bugs. I have called them bugs ever since I was little though. I should probably stop doing so, but it can be difficult to come out of an old habit.

I guess it is just a loose slang term and since they creep and crawl around people just group them in with bugs and insects (Not to say I blame them because they are creepy). There aren't really a whole lot of differences between the two except that arachnids have more legs than insects which only have six.

Whenever I see a spider though, I just call it a spider rather than bug or arachnid (even though arachnid sounds way cooler). A lot of people get in the habit or just get lazy when it comes to addressing something like this, it isn't really that big of a deal though, insects are insects and arachnids are arachnids and they are both creepy in their own special way.

No, like Razor, when I usually think of bugs I think of beetles or flying bugs. Spiders are very different, their body and their way of living sets them apart. Still, many people see them as bugs. And there are many types of spiders and bugs but when I think of bugs I usually get one thing in my mind but when I think of spiders I can think of different forms.

Spidah man taught me not to call spiders bugs. I call them Jim. But no really I call em spiders or nothing to show that I'm not afraid to protect my manliness.

tgags123 : Personally, no. For me its a big difference between a bug and a spider. Bugs don't creep me out. Daddy-long-legs I consider bugs, they do not creep me out. Spiders are creepy, spiders are freaky. I can pick up a bug and put it back outside. Just answering this thread about spiders is making me shudder!
