Should I extend the deadline for the Pokemon Hack Competition? If so, by how long?

Doing this would also mean the payout date would be extended.

I do think you should. Although I know nothing about creating hacks, my limited knowledge leaves me to believe it's extremely time consuming.  Especially if you want to create something of a good quality.  That being said, I don't think you should extend the date by TOO much. People might forget about it or procrastinate and in the end... you might end up with low quality after all.  (Taking experience from being a teacher.  LOL)

I know that most people on this site are in school of some sort, so extending it by one month or three seems like the best options to me.  I know I myself have been far too busy to do much at all, and we don't want kids so excited about the competition and pressured for time, that they prioritize on the deadline instead of their school work or other obligations.

You probably should delay it. There are some people tying to work on games that will probably be pressed on time, and won't be able to submit a complete game in time. Also, the exrta time might bring in new hackers. There haven't been too many people competing, mostly because those interested are collaborating. Maybe an announcement about it will bring more people into it. I think 1 month wouldn't be quite long enough, but I also think 6 months is too long of a delay. 3 months sounds pretty good.

Now I can relax, and so can the rest of earthwarrior's team. With only a few days to go and we only had the first town finished we were beginning to rush. Whether it be extended to 3 months or 6, we should get a lot finished in that space of time. So it would really help us and other entries, and maybe we can submit a complete game! I guess we left it late because we were all badly organized. We are all sort of too blame!

I think you should extend the deadline for 3 months. I think 6 months is a little too much. In 6 months you should get your ideas, form a team, and get over halfway through the hack. You should already have some of these things, but if you don't you only need to get 25% of the hack done so you wont need as much time.

Also after the new dead line passes you should still be able to submit hacks, but they wont be put in the first announcement. Since they wont be in an announcement they probably wont get a lot of plays unless the hack is really good or they find some way to advertise the hack. (this might cost Viz so it would be a great way to spend your extra viz)

Also I don't think anyone will get mad if the deadline is extended. It would be more time for their hacks to get played (some of the hacks i've seen don't have many plays)

Well that depends. How many entires do you have? If you have less than 4, then extend it by a month or so. If you have 4 or more, then don't extend it.

I am not competing, but i do know that creating these hacks takes quite some time and I believe that it should be extended by at least a month or two.

I've decided that I'll be extending the deadline by around 3 months. Thank you for all of your feedback.


patar4097 : yeah I'd hate for a game to be rushed and lack quality, the extra few months can make a huge difference for a hack. I will be making an announcement about it tonight.

zeross121 : The problem is, 3 months probably isn't enough time to make a quality hack and I should've considered that when I set the deadline.

earthwarrior : Yeah this really is a win situation for everyone The only users who may not like it are users who have already submitted hacks but than again, they could always work on another hack and increase their chances of winning some money.
