I think that the Wii U, with its many third-party support problems, should have waited a few months before launch. This would have allowed Nintendo to build up third-party support and move along game production. They've been having trouble with getting third-party developers to publish on their console, so that should be their main focus right now. However, maybe Nintendo just wants to stay out of the "console war." I think their logic is if they don't enter the mess, then they won't lose anything. They do seem to be retaining core Nintendo fans like me with this system, but can they keep going like this? I've done a bit of research and noticed that the Nintendo 64 was a similar story, and history does repeat itself, so maybe the next Nintendo system will be another GameCube.

Yes I agree with you on this one. On its launch date, it didn't have man core games from Nintendo other than Pikmin 3 and Nintendo Land. Third party developers should have had more time to make their games.

I think they should have entered into the "console war". They would have gotten more attention. They definitely should have waited longer.

Yeah I agree as well, it should've been released at a later date, it barely has any games, I may or may not get it later on when the price goes down and better games come out for it, I thought it was really cool at first but considering it as very few games and it is way too expensive, I am still not 100% sure on getting it. I never knew that the N64 was the same way though. They should've just waited a bit longer before finally releasing it, it would've done better sales wise. More games need to come out for it!

Razor-987 :  I should elaborate on what I read about the Nintendo 64. The cartridges had 10x less storage as a PSX disk. Nintendo was reluctant to switch to disks after what happened with the Famicon. There were machines in Japan which allowed you to switch what game was on your Famicon disk, so you could change a Super Mario Bros. to a Mega Man. Because of this, third party support and even some franchises left Nintendo, such as Final Fantasy, to put their games on the more powerful PlayStation. Once the GameCube came around, Nintendo regained third-party support because of its 1.4 GB storage capacity, thus being even more powerful. However, in development it was still planned to use cartridges.

I agree that Nintendo doesn't seem to have done a good job marketing their last few systems (with the exception of the wii).  I just  hope they don't go the way of Sega.

Yeah, I think in a way that the Wii U should of waited like a couple years, mostly wait till after the Xbox 1 and the PlayStation 4 were released, because that could do a lot more for sales.

Yes. That, and the 3DS needed to be released about a year after they were originally released. Because for both systems they came out. Then a year/year and a half later they released games people wanted to play.

Stores would have been packed today if Pokemon, 2DS, and Wii U were all released today. Releasing it later in the year would have helped a lot.

I believe the Nintendo Wii U should have been mass produced later on. Why? Actually, it is quite simple. I believe they had rushed the video games of this video gaming system. Nintendo and I both know they could have done much better and added a greater amount of content for their video games. Although, if it is already out, mine as well purchase it. It is good, but not as great as it could have become. I honestly just play a bunch of Call of Duty online it. Haha!

I really do think that they should have waited. This way they would get to sell more because of the release of the X Box 1 and the ps4 coming out later in the year. That way those games that they have would have been given more time to be made so that they can be better.

Yes, it should have. It would have been much more popular and successful. It was not ready when it really was released.

No.

I think they should have released the WiiU way earlier and not released the Wii at all.

As it stands, the WiiU is easily the weakest next gen system. Hell, its weaker than the PS3. Because of this Nintendo has all but lost the hardcore market, and that really hurts. They may be selling well but they could be seeking even better if they spent this time developing a console that could stand toe to toe with the PS4 and XBONE.

Yes. Although that's not the major nitpick I have with the U. It should have retailed with a somewhat higher price, taking more of a loss, with much higher technical specifications. (And if it had released near the One and PS4, it would be able to compete better for a multitude of reasons)

I don't think it would've mattered. They released a system with a weaker CPU than the 360 and PS3, which released 6 years before it. It has much more RAM and a very strong GPU to compensate, but it isn't flawless. They wanted a system that was very power efficient and quiet, as opposed to a system with power under the hood. I got a Wii U 2 years ago for Christmas, and I only have 3 games for it. I want to like it, but it just falls short for me.

If you want developer insight on why the Wii U is struggling and aren't afraid of a somewhat lenghty read, look no further than this article

I agree with you. The Wii U should have been released later, not only for Nintendo to make more games, and to get more 3rd party support. But to make hardware revisions and do research on what the general consumers would want, along with what the hardcore gamers would want. The only problem with this, is that if Nintendo waited and didn't improve the hardware, the Wii U would sell just as poorly as it is doing now. Not only would the hype of the PS4 and Xbox One ruin the Wii Us hype (much like the PS2 did with the Dreamcast). Even though the hardcore gamers know that games are what make a system. The general consumer is going to get carried away with the specs, and sadly gimmicks. That is why the PS4 and Xbox One are doing well, they have a nice thick layer of frosting, but a very nasty cake hidden inside. They are designed around what the general consumer would want, and as a result they both sell like hot cakes.

Yes, the Wii U should have been released later. Nintendo rushed to have the first home console in the new generation. Another thing they could have done is they could have given the system a way bigger hard drive. 32 GB is tiny compared to the other consoles.
