This month's Speed Run competition is for 'Mega Man 2' for the Nintendo NES. You can play it here:

The point of this competition is to beat the game as fast as you can.


RULES:
You must play the game on Normal difficulty. No cheating of any sort.


VIDEO REQUIRED: You must post a video of yourself accomplishing the score you submit. You must use the RGR Plugin's built in video recording capabilities. The video submission has to be a single video, it cannot be broken into parts so if you recorded it in parts, be sure to merge them into a single video.


RULES: You MUST play the game using the RGR Plugin in 'Timetrial Mode' and take a screenshot of the ending screen by pressing F6 when you've completed the game. To play in 'Timetrial Mode', scroll down the page where it shows the Speed Runs, you'll see a link that says 'Click Here to Compete for Speed Run', click that. Once you've taken your screenshot, click the link near that one that says 'Click Here to Submit your Speed Run' to submit your speed run. The video must be uploaded to the vizzed youtube account. The video submission has to be a single video, it cannot be broken into parts.

One of my favourite games in this franchise...

This will be a perfect opportunity to show my skills on the Normal mode of Mega Man 2, this is the chance that I have been waiting for! I wish everyone good luck!

gosh darn i keep getting close to a really good time then i make a little mistake and its all ruined, i hope the next speed run is a megaman x game

The Mega Man games are some of the toughest games to do speed runs on, especially since the game's are so unforgiving. It basically requires you to play through the games many times in order to memorize what to do in each situation.

Davideo7 : can you update my speed run time to 45.39, that's what I got on my second speedrun but the screenshot isn't there for some reason

Now let me make sure I got the rules staight.  I start playing megaman2 in the rgr and go down to speed run and start my game, I got this part.  Now Do I have to click record at the start and record it all the way through, or does playing it in the speed run mode automatically record my run - or just the time? I'm guessing I record it myself then take the screenshot at the end of the speedrun, right?

fightorace : Correct. You need to start the recording yourself. Time Trial does not do this automatically. So you need to start the video at the beginning and play it the whole way through. Then you must take that screenshot at the end.




Finally finished mine. But as usual, I am not submitting my video (or score) till later in the month. I don't want to suffer what happened in the Duck Tales Speed Run Competition. In that one, I found a little trick that saves 4 minutes, putting me in 1st by far. I submitted the video the day before the last day. When I checked the next day, 4 people had made new submissions and videos that used the trick I found

rcarter2 : Dude i am the  mega man master,so no need to start this.I was able to finish this game in like...half an hour,so be ready to lose

Magma_Cube : Hope you can do it in less than half an hour because that is my time. 

rcarter2 : Wily stage 3 has mercied you...

Magma_Cube : .... uh. What is that even supposed to mean? Wily Stage 3 is by far the easiest of the Wily stages in this game. There are just a total of 7 enemies in the WHOLE level not including the boss. The rest is just avoiding the spiky balls that don't even move. How would that level have to 'mercy' me?

rcarter : i finished it in less than half a minute,it's pretty short.

Magma_Cube : Not possible. Meg Man does not fall fast enough or walk fast enough for that to be possible. I'll break it down to show you why.

That first fall you have to make takes a minimum of 8 seconds, and that is if you don't accidentally land on any of the platforms before reaching the one in the water. Next, it takes Mega Man 4 seconds to walk the distance of one whole screen. The next part of the level is 4 screens long, so that is 16 seconds if you make no flaws. Already at 24 seconds and not even halfway through the level. The next fall takes another 9 seconds because of how fast Mega Man falls. You get the point. Based on how fast he falls and how fast he can walk, the FASTEST you can reach the gate before the boss is 49 seconds (and that doesn't include the time you can't do anything at the beginning as the screen flashes "ready" for a few seconds). So your less than a minute claim is a HUGE exaggeration unless you use speed-up cheats, which is not allowed.

rcarter2 : I will get this for you.first dont damage the crash walls.It isn't needed to do so,till you reach the fish tank put ITEM-2 then fly away,when you reach down,each time just keep in mind what you will do,and using item-2 or any of the 3 is allowed,the disagreed is using those cheat codes,
