Ignore if this has been posted before, but are you one of those gamers that simply HAVE to complete a game in it's totality (hope I said it right).  Completing EVERY single side quest, finding EVERY single secret, getting every single weapon, going for maximum stats.  100% Complete.
Or are you just running through the game, only going for and completing the main quest?
Or are you one of those people that start a game and never finish it, only to start another game?

I'm not much of a gamer anymore, but when I used to play a lot it would really depend on the game.  If the game was really good, I would do some "research" to see if I missed something.  I would then get the walkthrough out and go for it a second time.  One example was Fallout 3.  I probably didn't get every single item or max stats, but I explored the daylights out of that map.  I explored every single location on the map and I got every single expansion pack and crawled again into every nook and cranny.  I would probably fall somewhere in between and call myself a semi-completionist.  So where do you fit in?

Usually on my first play through of the game I tend to just take everything as it comes and enjoy the game. I do not mind if I miss something because I know I can just go back and do it all again. I will just glide through it at my own pace the first time around but when it comes to my second playthrough... That is a different story!
When I want to do well, I really try for it. If I do not get what I want, I try harder (unless it is impossible). I completed Doom not so long after joining vizzed, It was not too hard but there were some bits I struggled at. Now currently I am going back to get 100% Secrets, 100% Enemies Killed and 100% items, plus I am making a walkthrough so a first timer (A.K.A Noob) is wanting to complete Doom with 100% on all 3 fields then I am willing to help them!

I often run through the main quest first, and if I happen to come across any side quests along the way, I'd do them, and then once I've completed the game, I would go back and attempt to complete all of the side quests.

This question is a hard one for me to answer, but I do adore it so very much.

Here's my dilemma:  I don't have TIME to complete games.  I'd definitely, most certainly love to, but I can only recall one time in which I truly COMPLETED a game.  If I had all the time in the world though, I would SOOOOO be a completionist. I mean, even as I started reading about all the exploration you did in Fallout 3, I could feel myself getting jealous.  I actually started trying that game a few months ago, but some new XBOX update left me with no saved files and I haven't touched it since.

It actually really BOTHERS me when I start a game and can't completely explore every detail. The one game I remember beating was a Pokemon game.  I still had to go back and find EVERY secret and catch EVERY Pokemon. I haven't done it.. but I want to. I just can't make myself start over again until I've done as much as I possibly can.

Sometimes just knowing I can't complete the game discourages me from starting it. That's part of the reason I never started Fallout 3 again.

Same thing with Spore. I wanted to explore EVERY planet, even though I knew how impossible that probably was.  And in a game I play called alphabounce... most people jump from planet to planet, but I find myself moving one planet at a time because I want to defeat EVERY cell of the game.... LOL

Normally for me, At first, I'm a Casualist and then a Completionist, but if it's levels you can't go back, then I'm more of a Completionist because I want to try and get an 100% in the game.

I am a bit of a casualist. I don't always beat every game I play, but I try to. It depends what game I am playing.

I would have to say sometimes i'm a completionist when it comes to video games. The factor that plays into is what game is it. Other than that I spend my time just trying to enjoy the games that I buy and play. Achievements are fun to get and awesome to unlock when it happens but literally putting all of your time and effort to get every single one takes the fun out of it. I just play it to play it. Don't get me wrong, I like getting everything I can, turning over every box, barrel, ect.. looking for cool stuff that can be used or obtained but that isn't my sole focus. If a game has side missions, awesome, i'll see how many I can find and do them to see what I get out of it. If I just so happen to get 100% everything for a game, cool. I just want to make sure I have fun is all.

I strive to full complete whatever game I'm playing...but it often doesn't work out right. Games like Red Dead Redemption or GTA V are just simply too huge for me to even attempt to. I do anyway, just for the sake of it.

Back when I used to game all the time, when I was just working and not in college, I would complete games. Now I really don't have the time because of classes. Also the game would make a difference because I'm not going to go full out in a game I don't like.

I'm more Casualist. Most games I actually can't beat the side stuff so I give up. I will always beat the main game though. There's only one game I've beaten 100% and that's NSMB2.

Completionist, all the way. I cannot rest from a game until I have done all there is to do. I have even been such a perfectionist that I sucked all of the fun out of some of my favorite games before. I once discovered the best way to make money in Harvest Moon 3 (long story short, it involves miracle gloves and re-spawning berries), and as a result I wanted to make sure I maxed out my earnings every single day, so I could marry as early as you possibly could in the game, and build up enough funds to fill the barns, and blah blah blah. In the end, the game became a chore.

As for exploring...you know how you can enjoy watching some people do LP's in games like Zelda or Mario games? Yeah, you would hate watching me play. I have to explore literally every single corner of every single map. And sometimes it pays off with secret items or Easter eggs (my last Easter egg was in Ocarina of Time: Master Quest). Things like that thrill me as a gamer. If there is an area that glitches when found, I will find it. If there's a hidden Easter egg, I'll see it. I'm that detailed with my exploration in games, which is why I take several times longer to complete a game than most people I know. By the time the credits roll, my character has stood in every spot in the game where he/she can possibly stand. I also love staring at every piece of scenery for several minutes until I have soaked in every single detail, from ripples in the water, and clouds in the sky, to leaves on the ground, and grass blowing in the wind (for example, I have stared through every one of Bilbo's windows in the Hobbit, while admiring the hillside view of the leaves in the trees lol). It really must be quiet boring to spectators. I'll drop all of the action, mid-battle, just to look around. lol

When I first play a game, I aim for just completing the main game and not really doing side stuff and all that. Once  I complete the game, I then go back and do all the extra stuff. Fore example, let's say I'm playing New Super Mario Bros, a game that we're all probably familiar with. First, I would just run through the levels and beat up Bowser in the final level. After that, I would try to collect all the star coins and find all the secret levels and Toad Houses. It's just good for me not to do everything in a game on my first run through it. It somehow ruins the game's lasting appeal, making it boring pretty fast.

I would say I am usually a more casual type player, but once in awhile a game gets me so engrossed in it that I play it so much I will do every possible mission.  It was easier to do with more oldschool games, games now have much more space to work with it is much harder to complete everything before (at least for me) getting bored of the game.  And you also have some games that don't ever really end too!

I tend to try and complete as much as possible with the game. If I'm going to pay full price for it, I'm going to try and get my money's worth. Granted, if I tend not to love the game, sure I'll just do my best to just finish the game because, again, I don't want to waste my money, but I won't devote extra time to do everything possible.

I used to be a completionist, but now since I'm not at home all the time I tend to play casually even tough depending on the game I try to complete it at it's fullest but that depends on how much free time I have. Right now I can only call myself a completionist playing mobile games and just 'cause they are around me and I can play anywhere.
