I'm a Pisces so normally I like Water Types though it seems like the Water types have been getting the short end of the design stick. The first gen was a turtle with freaking Cannons on it's back. Not the greatest design ever but when you compare that to any other generation it is awesome. Now we have a guy who uses his own tongue as a scarf. He's trying to look cool but he's basically just a rip off of the Poli evolution line mixed with the lick evolution family.

At this point I'd rather have all the fire starters because though some of them look pretty stupid too even the worst looking Fire starter looks better than the frog with a tongue scarf.

I've never been a big fan of the Grass types. If I were to choose a different type from each generation I might grab a couple of them but if I had to choose matching types I'd never touch them. That being said...

Gen I: Squirtle
Though Charmander is a close second the only reason I wouldn't choose him is because it still bothers me that Charizard isn't a Dragon. (Unless you Mega Evolve him but then he has wings and can't fly which is just as stupid.)

Gen II: Totodile
Again, the fire type was a close second but I don't even know what he's suppose to be.

Gen III: Torchic
No contest here, Torchic has the best over all design.

Gen IV: Chimchar
The grass type was actually a close second but it's basically a rip off of the Gen I starter and I like monkeys.

Gen V: Snivy
No contest here... though I really don't like any of them this was a best of the worst situation.

Gen VI: Chespin
The fire type was a close second. Oddly enough if I take into account the entire evolutionary line I'd rather have the fire type. However when I look at the final forms by themselves I actually prefer the design of the grass type. The fire type to me looks like it has to always be female which is odd because starters have never had gender specific designs before. Of course again this is me choosing the best of the worst because I really don't like any of them.

I'd also like to point out it's just a really odd coincidence that they just happen to be two water types, two fire types, and two grass types exactly in that order.

I. Squirtle: Because turtles are best, and I like Blastoises water cannons.

II. Totodile: Another water-type, but it looks very nice and is a one powerful Pokémon.

III. Torchic: Only reason is that Blaziken is so awesome. <3 Fire/fighter who looks half bird and half human.

IV.  Turtwig: Well the last form has a giant tree on his back and looks like a turtle, everyone likes turtles, right?

V.  Shivy: Looks like some kind of green dragon, never played 5 generation Pokémon's, but I probably would pick this one as my starter.

VI. Froakie: It's final form is a ninja frog, that's why... Ninja's are cool and water/dark type just crown's it.

1st Generation: Charmander since he turns into Charizard which is a flying lizard or fire/flying type.
2nd Generation: Cyndaquil since I like how as it grows, its flames on its back grows as well and that's a powerful Pokemon right there!
3rd Generation: Mudkip since it evolves to a water/ground type which is a useful combination to me.
4th Generation: Chimchar since I think it appeals to me better than the other starters. I mean who wouldn't want a fire monkey?
5th Generation: Tepig since it's my zodiac animal so I want to represent it.
6th Generation: I haven't played Pokemon X/Y yet but if I were to choose, it would be Fennekin (if that's what it is called) because it evolves into a fire/psychic type.

Funny enough how I usually pick the fire starters in general but I think that fire starters are coolest out of all.

My reasons aren't too technical, but I always choose either a water or fire type. I don't really like grass pokemon that much and I prefer to beat the other trainers in the game through sheer force and not through status conditions like poison and paralysis.

1st gen:
In pokemon red, I chose charmander because... it's the red version!
I chose squirtle in pokemon blue for the same reason I've mentioned above.

2nd gen:
I went with cyndaquil for its cuteness and the coolness of its first and second evolution.

My personal favorite starter Pokémon is Mudkip.  Hoenn region is my mother region, as Ruby was my first Pokémon game  Mudkip evolves into Swampert, who's a mega beast.  In my opinion water types tend to be the hardiest and can stay resilient even against super-effective type moves.

So here are the pokemon I first chose from each generation. ps I am just a huge fan of grass types.

 Generation 1:
Bulbasaur because  just always thought Bulbasaur looked awesome with that little thing on it's back and all. I did not choose squirtle because I got the game when I was little and just never had the thought to choose any other pokemon other than bulbasaur surprisingly.
All though I did choose Squirtle as my 3rd pokemon in generation 6.

 Generation 2:
Chicorita because I was never really a fan of Johto and when I did get a chance to play it (because of vizzed) I just chose the grass type without even referring to the other types in stats or any of that stuff. I later learned that I should have chose Totodile.

 Generation 3:
I chose Treeko because as I said I love grass and Grovile just looks plain awesome in my opinion.

 Generation 4:
I chose Turtwig because Torterra was just an absolute monster with Earthquake and I love turtles so Turtwig was just impossible to turn down getting for me.

 Generation 5:
Snivy because I did not really like the design of Oshawott or Tepig. I think Serperior's design was just the best out of all of them by far.

 Generation 6:
Chespin because it becomes a grass and fighting eventually. This is when I actually started to think about fire and water. I just love grass types but I also like phsycic types so it was a really close one between Fenekin and Chespin. Chespin I also noticed people liked the least and decided to give it a try. It did not disapoint me one bit.

Generation 1

Charmander because the little fire type is the only pokemon I've ever seen have a dragon type move while being a fire/flying type. Plus I love the design of the little lizard C:

Generation 2

Cindyquail; Not sure I'm spelling that right, but anyways I chose him because I love Tylopsion and he learns the better moves out of Chickarita and Totadile.

Generation 3

Torchic because she's going to end up as a fire/fighting type which fighting types are one of my favorite types.

Generation 4

Piplup was my choice at this point because ice type moves against dragons look out Champion! C:

Generation 5

At this time I chose Snivy at first, but then I restarted with Tepig because I couldn't beat the Bug Gym :C I missed my Snivy but at least I got her back when I traded my lv 1 Tepig from the daycare for her :3

Gen 1: Bulbasaur hands down. If I can solo the entire game with it, then it's definitely a good Pokémon.
Gen 2: Totodile. I'm still not fully sure why, but I just like this guy more than the other. It's also my favourite water type that you can find in generation 2, so I think that helps.
Gen 3: Mudkip. I admit, that meme is the reason I tried it, but I REALLY liked it as a water type. It's also the most fun I've ever had making a Pokémon beautiful.
Gen 4: Turtwig. No particular reason, since these were really my least favourite starters.
Gen 5: Snivvy. My gosh I fell in love with this thing just like that! It's a speedy grass type and it actually satisfies me greatly when I use it
Gen 6: Froakie. 1) IT'S PART DARK TYPE! Sorry, but that automatically wins points with me, because it's my favourite type. 2) The fact that its tongue acts a scarf amuses me 3) It's a ninja frog. I just find that really cool!

gen 1: bulbasaur
because i completely spent great time with it on fire red, and it was a big help on the team with its last evolution being poison grass
gen 2: cyndaquil
the main reason is because it grows into a beast, although in gen 2 there is a lack of water types you can get lapras, if there wasnt lapras i would have chosen totodile
gen 3:mudkip
being one of my favorite pokemon,i had a great time with it in emerald surfin' the hell out of everyone
gen 4: chimchar
it a great pokemon, with amazing attack, and agility and growing into a ninja fire monkey, it a pure beast
gen 5: oshawott
well, it's an otter, and a samurai, so who can resist a samurai otter ...
gen6: froakie
although, never have played the game, it does after all grow to be a ninja ....

Gen 1: Bulbasaur
I like how easy it is to train, and when I was younger I liked the design more.
Gen 2: Cyndaquil
When I was younger I picked cyndaquil because I thought it was the cutest. Now that I'm older I really appreciate Typhlosion's stats
Gen 3: Torchic
Because it evolves into Blaziken which it totally boss
Gen 4: Chimchar
I don't actually care for any of the Gen 4 starters, but Moneferno is my lest disliked final evolution
Gen 5: Tepig
In all honesty, I just picked Tepig because I like fire-types.

I haven't played Gen 6 yet

Gen 1: Charmander - I like his high attack stats, and I like his moveset. As long as you get by those first two gyms, you should be fine with him.

Gen 2: Cyndaquil - He seems nearly invincible in generation 2. You can cover pretty much all type disadvantages with Earthquake, Thunderpunch, and Flamethrower.

Gen 3: Mudkip - The only thing that can defeat him is grass moves. He's a beast, and his moveset is pretty great too. Helps that he's got the highest stat total of all starters as well.

Gen 4: Piplup - Steel/Water seems pretty cool. He's got some cool moves too. Although, Turtwig is a close second here.

Gen 5: Oshowott - Don't know much about this generation of starters, but his stats look pretty good, and some good moves.

Gen 6: Fennekin - First time in a while that I like the fire starter. I love the fire/psychic type, and his stats are good too. The only negative is he doesn't look as strong as it seems he should. Although, that's sort of the same complaint as the other two starters as well.

Gen 1: Squirtle -
I like his type, Water, because it is great for defeating many types. He evolves into some pretty strong Pokemon, and he can learn Ice moves.

Gen 2: Cyndaquil -
One of my childhood faves, this little monster could take anything on with the right moves and Typhlosion is just...amazing.

Gen 3: Mudkip -
I liked his Type match-up (Water-Ground) because it gave me an edge against Electric Pokemon. Swampert can learn Earthquake, which can also give you an edge against the aforementioned Electric types.

Gen 4: Chimchar:
I liked his Fighting moves later in its...life? And he is pretty strong as well, I guess.

I haven't played any games from there

Thank you everyone for your wonderful feedback. It seems that Fire and Water types are all the rave when it comes to starter Pokémon. I still stick with Grass. It is harder for me and I like that challenge.

Keep up the great posts.
