I am going to raise my future kid so that he learns Pokemon and he learns it right. I will show him (or her) the first season of the Pokemon anime all the time. I will give him (or her) tons of Pokemon cards, but only originals (to start with). I will have him (I am going to refer to my future child as a boy from now on, but it could be a girl) play the Pokemon games in order and I will play them with him. For example, We will start with him playing Red and I will play Blue. We will play at the same time and trade with each other and stuff. Once we beat that we will go to Yellow, which we will both play. Then Gold and Silver, then Crystal, etc.

This is the part where you tell me I'm insane.

Hey, it's not such a bad idea. If your kid actually likes Pokémon, growing up in a teaching environment is not so bad. You can be like that man who gives Red the TeachyTV. Basically giving your son/daughter lessons like that man did to Red.

Lol.

tgags123 : ARE YOU INSANE? Yes, you love Pokemon, but teaching your own child a video game like that is not good! Just prevent him from playing graphic games...

That's not a bad idea at all. I don't think you're insane. You can raise your kid your way. Maybe he or she will grow up to love Pokémon.

tgags: While yes, you're insane in the membrane. I'm actually going to be like that with my kids. I was raised with the NES and SNES. And over the years I got to the WiiU. So basically I've been the subject of a broader version of your strategy. So (to be redundant) yes, I will partake in your strategy as well. Well, sort of. My own spin on it.

PixelBrick : Hey that's what my cousin did to me. He gave me tons of Pokemon cards and made sure my mom put on the Pokemon anime VHS tapes that he gave me.

And the video game thing, I am making sure they play the original games before generation X or whatever generation it will be when the time comes. It's not like it's the near future.

Eh I wouldn't force my child to like or dislike the things that I like to do, because I would want my child to have their own opinion on things and not be influenced by my opinion. As for you tgags123, don't get me wrong, Pokemon is a great game and is a huge part of my childhood but in all honesty by the time you have children Pokemon will be out dated and probably won't really exist and it might not even appeal to your child (especially the really older Pokemon games from generations 1 &2).

B619ook : I'm not going to be as insane as I made myself sound i exaggerated a little bit, but, like I said to Pixel, I will make sure they experience all of the originals before the new ones.

Don't worry, my good sir, I'd do the same. Well, as long as he actually enjoys doing things with Pokémon. I'm going to try hard to make him like it, but if he doesn't, no point in forcing it.

And, as Mistress said, just buy a plushie.

What if it turns out that your child grows up to like Digimon, Will he or she be punished?
I think you are insane forcing your child to like something, let him/her grow up and gain personal hobbies. Maybe your child might grow up to like pokemon through genes!

So I will probably not have kids for the next 10-15 years and by then many fad series based off of Pokémon and Digimon will come and go. Personally I think in 20 years once my kid is ready to understand the games and play competitively Pokémon will either be completely long gone or the newest game will put you in the virtual world and allow you to actually raise a Pokémon team from scratch. (I think future RPGs at that point will be like that unless its all about the Internet and monthly payments like WoW which I will never pay to play monthly like that!

But anyways as a Pokémon fan I ended up first collecting the cards because it was the in fad at my school and I never really had a card collection even though my father and 2 older brothers did so it was at that point time for me to decide on what I would collect. Then I found out from friends that a show exists and so I obviously spent hours of my youth watching the shows and being amazed. Then my first Pokémon video game was actually Pokémon Crystal version for the gameboy color which my grandmother bought me. So I would probably do the same thing for my son or daughter. And even though I will hope they enjoy the games and take all of the wonderful experiences I have had and make their own I will not really force it onto them.

Also I would definitely show them some of the first anime I have watched and as they get older to a good reading level I would then have them read the manga which I would be buying them even though I always read my manga online.

Oh and they WOULD be playing the PS2 as their first console system after I teach them all the classic Disney movies and have them then play Kingdom Hearts.

So yeah I would definitely introduce everything I have enjoyed to them but I wouldn't force them to like anything if they just really do not care for it. But as an uncle and someone who has been around younger cousins growing up kids do tend to enjoy what their parents enjoyed growing up with which is why so many older shows are remade and HD because of the research backing that. I myself actually watched television shows with my mother every weekend like Charmed which she enjoyed when it came out.
