This is a pretty self explanatory question. What is/was your favorite cartoon? My answer? It would be ChalkZone. As a kid, I loved that show. The story was great, the characters were funny, and the cartoon wasn't complete folly like most of the cartoons on television nowadays. So what was/is your favorite cartoon? It's fine if you don't watch television.

I have to say either Avatar the Last Air-bender (or anime, I don't care, I consider it a cartoon!)
Either that, or Ed Edd and Eddy.

For one thing, The Last Air-Bender had possibly THE BEST story of any cartoon I have ever seen. The characters were great, and the action was very well done. Also, I LOVED Aang as a protagonist. Overall, phenomenal show.
While Ed, Edd and Eddy, one reason. Nostalgia.

I love Adventure Time. It has jokes for the younger kids and me who is 13 (14 in october). I also love how Jakes voice is done by the same person who voiced Bender from Futurama. There is the odd childish episode but there are some I would not show 7 year olds.

My favorite cartoon is The New Woody Woodpecker show. I watched every episode of it on Netflix and it's the funniest cartoon I've ever seen. I was sad when I finished watching the final episode and I knew the series was over.

To be honest I have always been more of an anime fan because of the fact that I was always mature for my age and really did not like the fact that all the cartoons I saw had jokes for really immature audiences. Though the one cartoon I think was my favorite had to be Avatar The Last Air Bender. I would call it an anime but even though it used anime style figures and graphics I believe it is still classified as a cartoon. It had a deeper story to it which was for young adults and it had pretty awesome fighting scenes and really made a fan think about what they would do if they were a certain bender or what they would be doing in the world. So it really is a great cartoon that even my friends enjoyed enough to be a topic of discussion even at parties. (A long running joke is how we could earth bend and we throw a rock).

I actually have another cartoon I really enjoyed (I know I only was sticking to one but as I was writing about it I remembered this one that was just too good not to mention and I am too lazy to go back and edit this)

Xiolin Showdown. Oh my god the characters were hilarious, the evil bad guys were both funny and really awesome, and the showdowns were both really cool to watch and really taught me a lot about out smarting other people. My favorite item was the Tiger Claw just because it looked really cool and I also loved Remundo (Not sure if I spelled that right) the most.

Spoiler Alert: He becomes the leader of the group and that final episode made me cry because it was so awesome and the series itself ended on such a good note that not even I could complain!

As juvenile as it might sound, my favorite has probably always been Spongebob. I'm actually surprised it hasn't been mentioned in this thread yet.  That being said, I spent a lot of my childhood watching other cartoons because Spongebob wasn't around.  I grew up watching cartoons like Dexter's Laboratory, Courage, Johnny Bravo....

And even shows like Tail Spin or The Rescuers.

I can't believe how far cartoons have come (in a bad way). I can hardly stand to watch any cartoons nowadays, and they all look so ridiculously stupid to me. I often find myself wondering how anyone can stomach them. I've seen a few commercials for Sanjay or something, and it just makes me shake my head.  Really? This is why I wouldn't pay for cable if I had the choice...

I have been watching everything from the Simpsons 15 years ago, to Adventure Time today, but now I would have to go with Gravity Falls. I have been addicted to that show ever since it first came out last summer.

Counting Anime, Naruto, One Piece, Attack on Titan, Toriko, Soul Eater... Counting traditional, Spongebob PRE 2005 ONLY. Stephen Hillenburg was a great writer and Paul Tibbit is atrocious.

In the eighties it was He-man. In the 90`s the Simpsons and later on to this day, either Futurama or Drawn together.

Though if you seriously love animation (or "cartoons" or whatever) you should really check out masterpieces like that of Alexander Petrov.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5ih1IRIRxI

It will only take 20 minutes of your life and it is beautiful.

My favorite cartoons when I was a kid were Blues Clues and Bob the Builder.  Now I think some of my favorite cartoons would have to be classics such as the Flinstones, Spongebob, Pink Panther, etc.  An underrated cartoon would have to be Top Cat, I think it is definitely one of the better old cartoons, also it has a great theme song.

Ed, Edd, and Eddy- I grew up with it. How could it not be my favorite cartoon?
Danny Phantom- I just love it. Plain and simple.
Kids Next Door- Same reason as Ed, Edd, and Eddy. Plus, it involves defeating adults. DOWN WITH THE OPPRESSORS!

I know I'm forgetting one, I just know it 3x.

To say only one and not mention anime specifically, I would say Sonic X. I dunno, just getting the Sonic games in a real life setting (at some parts) made the series enjoyable.

Archer is my favorite cartoon, especially being a fan of 007, its a well done satire. The jokes/references that continue throughout the series make it awesome to watch multiple episodes.
