I myself have broke none, and there is one I would definitely never break,Thou Shalt Not Kill
I go to church,I live my life, and obey the ten commandments, and been doing good all these years,I wonder if anyone here has ever broken one

sonicbros : Interesting...I'm not going to say everything I want to say because I want to expand on this topic to have more of a discussion, so let me say this and I am very interested in hearing what you have to say.

And here it is:

I don't think you kept the Ten Commandments. In fact, I don't think anyone in this world kept the Ten Commandments, and that is part of the core of what Christianity believes.

I've broken several. We have all have broken the fourth Commandment, I've broken the third many times, and really that is it. Of all the Commandments, the only ones I find entirely unforgivable or immoral to break are the seventh, sixth, second (We've all seen how that has ended), and the ninth.

Sludgehead : The thing, though, is that it isn't unforgivable to break any of the Ten Commandments, but it's immoral to break any one of them. God forgives us through the blood of His Son, Jesus. Even a murderer can be forgiven!

The commandments I'm really concerned about not obeying, though, are the two Jesus called the most important. Matthew 22:37-40 - 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.38 This is the great and first commandment.39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

I believe I've probably broke all 10 of them. (have I committed murder? no. but Jesus says if you've been angry with your someone, you've already committed murder in your heart.)

The Law of the Ten Commandments says if you break one, you're guilty of breaking them all, and the punishment is death. By grace we can have forgiveness by Jesus since he paid that punishment in full for everyone -- if you will believe.

pray75 :

1.  I am the Lord your God.  You shall have no other gods before me

Guilty.  Everything in this life that is more important to you than your relationship with God is considered as an idol.  Although you might not bow down before it and pray to it, if it takes up most of your time and you can't think of anything else you want to do, it's an idol.  For example - playing video games 24/7, wanting to do nothing else.  That's your idol, your "god".  The thing you spend all your time and energy on.

2.  You shall not make for yourself an idol

See Commandment 1.

3.  You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain

Done that before.

4.  Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Fallen short here.  I would like to discuss this in a bit more detail later.

5.  Honor your father and your mother

There were times when I was still living with my parents that I could just... break a window or something.  Guilty again.

6. You shall not murder

The Bible says in 1 John 3:15 - "Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him."
I've hated my sister in my heart many times before.  So yeah, guilty again.

7.  You shall not commit adultery

Jesus viewed this so seriously, that He said in Matthew 5:28, "But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart."  I'm not a good person.  Guilty again.

8.  You shall not steal

That goes for small things as well, irrespective of what it's value might be.  I might have borrow someone's pencil, eraser or whatever at school and conveniently left it in my pencil case and never returned it.  Still guilty.

9.  You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor

This is essentially a command against lying.  I've lied plenty of times.  No getting away here.

10.  You shall not covet...

Desiring something that's not my own?  O yeah. Not good.

Oh yeah. I don't believe in this stuff, but for the sake of the thread...

I have broken the third commandment on numerous occasions. Honestly, I do it casually a lot.

I don't practice any religions of faith, so of course I don't follow the 4th.

I have broken the seventh once.

Broken the 8th on more occasions than I care to admit.

I lie all the darn time... so I have definitely broken number 9.

And I have broken 10 a lot of times, too.

I pretty much break the third commandment daily.

I've broken the eighth once.

For me it's impossible not to break number 10. If I see something cool that I don't have, I want it.

I have no doubt in my mind that I have broken all of the commandments. However it does not matter if I only broke one of them. James 2:10 and 11 says, 10 "For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. 11 For he who said, 'You shall not commit adultery,' also said, 'You shall not murder.' If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.

Hope you don't mind a non-Christian answering this.

1.  I am the Lord your God.  You shall have no other gods before me
I don't worship anything, so no.

2.  You shall not make for yourself an idol
This seems pretty similar to number one.

3.  You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain
Daily thing for me.

4.  Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Worked my buttocks off on Sundays before. I've also been lazy on other days of the week.

5.  Honor your father and your mother
Who hasn't gotten in a few arguments with their parents?

6. You shall not murder
No. Hopefully I'll never have to take a human life. I can't even kill a fly without feeling a little weird.

7.  You shall not commit adultery
Yes. Can't exactly marry another male in Indiana.

8.  You shall not steal
Unfortunately, yes. I've taken a few dollars from some people.

9.  You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
I know I wouldn't, but I've never been in the position to do this.

10.  You shall not covet...
"Gee, I sure wish I had a car like his!" That's what drives us to buy things we don't need. So yeah, I have done this.

Just a note and a bit of background on God's law, or the 10 Commandments.   If you read the Book of Exodus in the Bible, God gave the nation of Israel 10 laws called the Ten Commandments which are basically a summary of all the Old Testament laws, which contains 613 commands!  The Ten Commandments are obviously made up of 10 specific laws.  The first four laws deals with man's relationship with God and the last six dealing with man's relationship to his fellow men.  I have already listed the commandments a few posts up.

Now only a few have posted here, but we can already see that NONE of us lives up to that standard.  Not one.  There is not a single perfect person on this planet.  I think we can all agree to that. Many believe that it is a set of rules and regulations set by God to restrict you and make your life dull without any enjoyment whatsoever - the law is not fully understood if you see it this way.  Also, very important, it is not a set of rules which will guarantee salvation if followed.  Just a friendly warning, I'm going to go a bit off track here.  What am I talking about? What is this salvation?  To some of you the meaning is obvious, but to some it might be something foreign.  I don't know.  Basically "salvation" is the deliverance from suffering or danger.  The word carries the idea of victory, healing or preservation.  The Bible uses the word "saved" or "salvation" to refer to a temporal, physical deliverance.  An example of that would be Paul's deliverance from prison in Philippians 1:19.  More often the word "salvation" ties in with eternal, spiritual deliverance.  Jesus said in Matthew 19:24-25 that being saved is the same as having a "pass" to enter the Kingdom of God.  So what are we saved from?  In the Christian doctrine of salvation, we are saved from the "wrath", which is God's judgement of sin (Romans 5:9; 1 Thessalonians 5:9).  By the sins that we all have committed, it has separated us from God and the consequences of these sins are death (Romans 6:23).  Biblical salvation refers to our deliverance from the consequence of sin and therefore involves the removal of sin.  So who does the saving?  In the Christian doctrine of salvation, God has rescued us through Christ (John 3:17).  To be more specific, Jesus died on the cross and through His resurrection from death, we achieved our salvation (Romans 5:10; Ephesians 1:7).  The Bible is clear that salvation is the gracious, undeserved gift from God (Ephesians 2:5, 8) and it is only available through faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12).  So a definition of the Christian doctrine of salvation would be, “The deliverance, by the grace of God, from eternal punishment for sin which is granted to those who accept by faith God’s conditions of repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus.”

Now that "salvation" has been explained, I can move on .  So, again, the Ten Commandments won't save you by following it.  Galatians 3:24 says that the law is a schoolmaster that guides us.  A quote from a previous post, "He (God) didn't give it to ruin our lives and to take away the enjoyable things in this life.  It was given to PROTECT us.  Example:  look at the commandment, "thou shall not commit adultery".  Think about how many families are broken and have suffered loss because the fathers / mothers could not honor the promise they made to God when they got married (for the record - outside of marriage also applies).  "thou shall not steal" - how many young kids have ruined their lives with a criminal record because they couldn't keep their hands to themselves and made a stupid decision?  I can go on and on."
When we look at the Commandments, we should see that we have broken that law, God's law and recognise our helplessness to do what is right in God's eyes.  We have all sinned and fallen short of God's glory and goodness (Romans 3:23) and therefore we need His love and mercy (Romans 7:24-8:1).  The gift of forgiveness through Jesus Christ, has been given to us and for those who trust and believe in Him can say like King David in Psalms 32:1-2,  "Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.  Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit."

I think I have broken all of them.

1.  I am the Lord your God.  You shall have no other gods before me
I really do not worship anyone...
2.  You shall not make for yourself an idol
Er...what now? Do not get what you mean.
3.  You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain
Every day.
4.  Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
I always sit around on Sundays.
5.  Honor your father and your mother
I have gotten in plenty of fights/arguments with my parents.
6. You shall not murder
Meh, when I am mad at somebody, I may tend to punch them a few times, that is all.
7.  You shall not commit adultery
Too wierd to answer.
8.  You shall not steal
Sometimes I steal loose change, maybe like change from McDonalds, or whatever is laying around.
9.  You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
Er...what?
10.  You shall not covet...
I like a lot of stuff. I can not help it if I covet.
I think I have broken all of them.

1.  I am the Lord your God.  You shall have no other gods before me
I really do not worship anyone...
2.  You shall not make for yourself an idol
Er...what now? Do not get what you mean.
3.  You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain
Every day.

Well, let's see which commandments I've broken...

I've broken the second - I blame the ads
I've broken the third - I've done that a lot, actually
I've broken the fourth - I forgot it was Sunday a couple times >.>
And I've broken the eighth - I remember stealing 2 packets of gum and a Kirby game when I was 5

Love thy neighbor as thy self...
Yeah. No way I've followed this one.

sonicbros : Wait.... you've never lied, stolen, cursed or sworn, or wanted something someone else had or been upset at your parents?  I don't buy that.

1. I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other gods before me

I don't believe in anything, so I guess that breaks it.

2. You shall not make for yourself an idol

Pretty much #1.

3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain

"GD" is one of my favorite things to say.

4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

I treat Sunday like every other day.

5. Honor your father and your mother

I've yelled at my mother.

6. You shall not murder

Only one I haven't broken.

7. You shall not commit adultery

Had sex before marriage.

8. You shall not steal

Stole candy from a store.

9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor

I've lied countless times.

10. You shall not covet...

I had an Xbox 360, my friend had a PS3. I thought the PS3 was better, and I wanted it. So I bought my own.

So yes, I've broken every commandment except for Number 6.

Honestly, every human on the planet has broken every single one of the Ten Commandments. Anyone who says otherwise is breaking the 9th commandment. That's the core reason why we need God. Even sinning once sets us apart from Him forever. The only reason that we have any hope at all, is because of what Jesus did on the cross.

SoL@R : I think we're in the same boat... :/ Just shows how necessary the Cross is.
sdslayer100 : I think your list of Commandments is a bit different from the Biblical one. Check out SoL@R's list...
