It looks like it should be in some kind of horror film! The thing that came from the slime. Yea like everyone has said already you should probably get that looked at. 

A few more hours, and this is what it looks like now.  At least now it looks a little more like mushrooms. Still though.. it's alarming at how fast this thing grows!

Wooow... *gags* That's nasty, and terrible! If possible, leave the light on in that room (hopefully will slow the growth). Then, get someone to take care of that!

That is the creepiest thing I've seen in a long time, something right out of a horror movie. How is it even possible that it'd growing that fast? That doesn't make sense, that's just disgusting. Too bad you didn't have a video camera with a time lapse feature.

I can't imagine how dangerous that stuff is to be breathing in. I'm sure there's some nasty mold.

Wow that is horrible, those are most definitely mushrooms growing out of your ceiling. That is one horrible problem, and I think you should get that looked at before it gets any worst than it already is.

Singelli : After the last pictures you posted (I didn't notice those before), I have no doubt in my mind that those are ink cap mushrooms. I was pretty sure those first pictures (the ones with the really fat ones) were inc caps, but couldn't say for sure. But these last pictures pretty much answers the unknown questions I had from the early ones. 

Singelli : Ugh, invite the land lady in to see what she has to say about it. Hehe...But in all seriousness, you should get them checked out, maybe today, if possible.

...one of those mushrooms...has acid coming out of it...your ceiling is going to fall in soon, due to the weight of the mold and fungus...and worst of all...m u s h r o o m s.

Singelli :  This thread is worth 50 000 Viz at least for the weirdest thread ever.  New ceiling here we come!  That thing probably have spores now all over the place.  I'm freaking you out even more now, aren't I ? XD  Seriously, someone has to come and cut up that ceiling sooner rather than later.   They'll probably have to fog the room with some kind of peroxyacetic acid.  I would I would then lace the roof and walls with 70% Ethanol and light it up! I would then run to that radioactive shelter of yours and get myself nuked.  I'm being ridiculous, I know.  Was it the lady's dishwasher or laundromat?  Can you request a temporary apartment until yours is fixed?  Explore that option, because I wouldn't sleep there  Good luck!

Imagine waking up and seeing that on your ceiling!  Then practically watching it grow before your VERY EYES!  I agree with you... I just want to burn the whole ceiling.  I'll tell you what the plans are in a minute.....

EVER!  I can't tell you how much I appreciated the humor, and I needed it, because I got NOT sleep last night.  I just couldn't get the image out of my head, and I longed to be elsewhere, but had nowhere to go.  According to rcarter2, they're harmless, but they certainly don't look that way!

I haven't seen the Super Mario Brothers movie in... gosh... probably 15-20 years, but someone was JUST talking with me about that the other day. haha.  I couldn't remember anything about it, but when you posted those pics... Wow... GREAT, GREAT laugh!  It so accurately describes what I felt like I was witnessing!

Speaking of which... when I got up this morning... the mushrooms weren't three feet long with grabby appendages as I expected.  In fact, they look almost done.







I really, really do wish I could have time-lapsed it, but I think I deserve some kind of reward for bravery and documentation.  LOL  As horrifying as this has been, I also feel absolutely fascinated with it.  haha  If I wasn't so scared of it, I might have tried playing around with the photography aspect of it, since I love photography.

In fact, it horrified me so much that I actually got none of the work done yesterday that I was supposed to.  So I had to call in and cancel my iPad workshop reservation so I can get that done today.  *sad face*  I sent a bad picture through my phone, to the workshop professor, and she flipped out in the most humorous way.... I told her I'll bring the pics tomorrow for all of them to see.  LOL

Now, as for plans on dealing with it.... *sighs*
Well, before this happened, my landlady said she would get someone to come patch up the ceiling.  However, I don't know if you can tell by my pictures, but the leaking and patching has been done before.  She doesn't have a professional do it.  She has a friend do it.  Just cut a hole... and patch.  She's normally a very, VERY good landlady, but.... I don't know how to approach her on this issue.

Besides that, my husband will be the one to deal with it, and it doesn't seem to bother him one bit.  In fact, he's sleeping in the bedroom right this minute. He didn't want to call it in last night, and isn't even certain he wants to call it in today, because he wants to move stuff around first.  Personally, if my house was a pig sty, this is probably the only instance ever in which I wouldn't let that bother me. I'd welcome someone in with open arms.  LOL

I asked Jason if he thought we could get the landlady to get us a hotel room while it's being fixed, but he doesn't like the idea because he's very, very, VERY paranoid.  I even suggested just taking our valuables with us, but his paranoia really has no limits at all. So he said that even if the landlady offered to let us stay somewhere for a few days and pay for it.. he won't accept the offer.  :/

I don't even know if she would, considering she doesn't even want to hire a professional.  And I'm not sure my husband will push for a professional to be hired. I'm terrified that they are just going to cut a hole in the ceiling and then cover it up.  I'd rather them just remove the whole ceiling. I don't know if the mushrooms will convince the landlady to get a professional or not... but I just know that I really, really, really don't want to stay here, even if the 'shrooms are harmless. It just grosses me out, and there's plenty of water damage, yellow mold, and even white fuzzy mold to bother me.

EDIT: Oh my god... Those things... its dripping acid! EEK! They're too gross to even look at now.... you really really need to get that thing removed! They could be toxic!   Oh wait... they aren't poisonous? Really surprising..
