My brother and I are arguing what genre Portal and Portal 2 are. I'm saying it's a First Person Puzzler while my brother is saying it's a platformer. I suppose in a way we could both be right, but what do you guys think/know it is?

It is a puzzle game, it takes place in the first person, but I wouldn't count it as a shooter, and I would also not class it as a platformer.

I think it is a puzzle game, while there is plat forming, it is not the focus. The focus is how ever on solving test chambers, which is basically puzzle, so it is a puzzle game.

I actually think it is a puzzle game as well just like everyone else said it seems so I guess I'm right it can't be a platformer because well it has no platforms besides puzzle there is pretty much not anymore gaming genres that match this game.

Portal is a mix or Puzzle, Platformer, and First Person Shooter. I would like to say that it is more closer to Puzzle than the others because of the devisement of the stages, being very similar to a puzzle game, and somewhat of a platformer.

The first person shooter element comes in since you have a gun, and it's in first person, but that's about it.

It's pretty much a First Person Shooter / Platformer / Puzzle mix. It's a FPS because you're walking around with somekind of gun aiming for a certain thing, it's a Platformer because you're going from start to finish and it's a Puzzle because you have to think on what to do and where to go.
