First off if this is in the wrong place I'm sorry and please move to the correct location. Yesterday I decided I was going to stop smoking. I have smoked for five years and I will tell you the truth I have decided to stop smoking a hundred times before but I always give up and go get a carton. I would like some suggestions on how to make it a little easier (I have tried the gum and patches and they don't work) and I would also like a little moral support from the wonderful Vizzed community.

Wow man, this is probably the best thing you can do for yourself. It is a great decision to make and I am glad that you came to making the right choice in the end no matter how hard it was.

1. First motivate yourself and make a commitment to never do it again, saying that you will quit is not enough, you have to be serious about it and commit to never do it again, be serious about it

2. Set goals and rewards for yourself when you have committed and continue to avoid smoking

3. Know what your motivation is, educate yourself on what smoking can do to you and your health,as gross and as bad as it can be, look at pictures and read about the damage that can be done from it and sort of scare yourself out of ever wanting to do it again. Get the facts on smoking.

4. If you find that smoking a cigarette is your way of handling stress then you need to replace it with something else like going for a walk or exercising or anything that will take your mind off of smoking for good. So find another way to deal with your stress.

5. Just make it through the first two weeks and try to get past smoking. If you make it past that then it will get easier, the first couple of days are always the worst but after that it starts to get easier, whatever you do, don't think of cigarettes and most importantly do not give up on yourself, keep pushing yourself and make it a commitment to not smoke and that is best for you and your health to stay away from it. I hope this helps you and I hope you get over it for good soon

The key to quitting smoking is that you really want to do it!All smokers get whims and idea's about quitting, but usually end up with another pack a few days later. The best way i found to quit was to replace the time i spent smoking with something new and positive with the new step you've already taken. This is what i found helped me, but everyone is different.I hope you succeed in your quitting quest.

Congrats on quitting. I know its very hard to quit doing something you have for some many years, but the health benefits of it will be great and of course if you have any family or friends it will help them with not having to be around the 2nd hand smoke. I wish you a lot of success.

Great job! I have never smoked in my life, and don't intend to. I suggest that you find something else to occupy your time. Like, whenever you decide to go out for a smoke, you should go to like Taco Bell or something. Something else that isn't smoking. That is what I would do if I had a problem like that. Keep at it dude!

GenesisJunkie : I am trying to quit now, too, my friend. I quit for about 3 months, until I lost my vapor. And the best part about it was that I had no nicotine levels in my flavor things. Try a Vapor dude. I am telling you, a lot of Army guys use them to help them quit, and it works miracles.

thing1 : Thanks for posting brother. Are you talking about them electronic cigarettes? If so I have used em a few times but never was a big fan of them. I dipped (chewed tobacco) for the first few days and then stopped using that. It is easier to use small amounts of dip for a short time then just going cold turkey out of nowhere.

Those electronic Cigarettes Seem to work O.K. enough.
They are better for your lungs as well though they do not replace 2 packs as advertised.

One electronic cigarette is only as good as five real cigarettes. (Sorry it took so long I had to try a number of them before I recommend them.)

They are not as good as the real thing but it does help. I use them when driving in my car.
Back east is was not an issue due to being on roads that typically max out at 40 MPH.

On the west coast?
The Freeways, Highways, and other stretches of road are all marked at 70 MPH bare minimum. (That's if you want to get anywhere in under 2 hours. Work, School, Groceries, Movies, Everything.)

The big Bonus to the electronic cigarette? You can smoke inside if you want. It is all Vapor.
No smells.
No weird ill effects to the walls or furniture.
No second hand smoke.
No cancer.

Bigger plus?
If you are dinning with a jerk or "break-rooming" with a jerk?
You can whip it out right there and drag off of it and the dude or broad can not do a thing to you.
It works to silence allot of punks fast for some reason.
I saw a dude at work go through hell quitting after he caught his kid stealing his.
After he got a hold of the Electronic Cigarette?
He seemed to have less problems quitting.

I may never quit but I have to Mention the "Electronic Cigarette".
It is pricey (I have found some for $10.00 Each, but I am certain there are places you can get them for cheaper. Try On-Line Shopping.) but it seems to take a bit of the edge off.
Good Luck.

Good Luck To All.
I'm done. Stick a fork in me.
Peace.

Stopping smoking is a good achievement.
Most of my family members can not stop and they try to stop.
This is why this generation has to stop smoking.
So maybe you can try those electrical cigs.
It might help you overcome the addiction.
Maybe there are other stuff that will keep your mind off smoking.

That's great that you're stopping, I think that's a wise move right there. I never smoke anything and i never will because I don't like smoking or tobacco.

Wow man, That's surely an achievement, I've smoked for 4 years and... 4 days ? I've been trying to quit for a while now, the longest I've gone without a cigarette was 2 months, and that was because once I was able to actually fully breathe I could go out and do stuff I liked, walking, jogging. Find something to do, keep you busy. Believin in you mann !

People who smoke have a strong probability of lung cancer. In the mind of smokers , they think that they are gonna survive and the others are gonna die.
