  For all you Wii users some news has been announced on Nintendo.com that certain Wii Channels will be discontinued on the Wii. Channels like The News Channel, Forecast Channel, Everybody Votes Channel, Nintendo Channel, Check Mii out Channel, As well as Date exchange between Wii friends on Wiiconnect 24. All other channels will still be available and working for the Wii. Nintendo plans to close these channels on June 28 2013. Messages exchange through the Wii message board, Mii exchanges through the Mii channel, and exchanges of data and messages will no longer be possible through different games. Nintendo has not released a list yet as to what games will no long support data and message exchanges.

     Wii shop and the Today’s achievements will still be activated for the Wii after these channels are closed. Once again this is only for the Wii and not the Wii U channels for the Wii U will continue to work normally after these channels are closed on June 28.

Thank you for the information, it is a shame they will discontinue those channels, but I guess it's an attempt to try and get people to upgrade as well as possibly save money.

I gotta admit some of those channels were very useful to me such as the weather channel where I could have see what weather of the week was and the nintendo channel that provided me information of upcoming games that were expected to come out soon.

Yeah, they're closing it because no one really looks at those anymore, I think mostly people check the news and weather on the computer rather than on the Wii. Also because not a whole lot of people will switch to the Wii U rather than keep playing on the Original Wii.

This is a good idea since nobody really uses those channels anymore. If you have typical stuff like news or weather, you can easily access that through a television or computer. Nintendo's focus is mainly on the Wii U at this time and the old original Wii is slowly fading away. In with the new and out with the old sadly.
