(Move this thread for me if it's in the wrong area, thank you)

Anyways, I was just about to say... any idea when we will finally get rid of these god awful chat sites?

I mean seriously, we get all these TV shows about "how to stop a predator" or "how to protect your children", or something else like that... but then people don't bother doing anything.

It would just be so much easier to begin killing off every chat site there ever is... now, I'm not saying things like Skype, Myspace, Facebook, ect...

I'm more along the lines of ACTUAL chatroom based websites, such as 321teenchat... chat-avenue, parachat, and many others.

But in all honest, like... I don't mind chat sites, I honestly don't... but they seriously need some more "dedicated" moderators.

Now, why do I say this... well, it's simple really. We have over... probably a million different chat sites, most of them of which are full of predators and perverts with no life.

But then, there are the very limited number of people on those sites that are ACTUALLY worth talking to... but it's unable to do that because too many people are spamming things like "ladies PM me for s**" and you're just like "seriously, go out and get it yourself... lazy bums".

But in all honesty, why don't we have chat sites with dedicated admins... admins who have no problem helping the chat site become something for people like us to enjoy, something for us to just kick back on and actually converse.

Instead, it's nothing but people asking "what's your ASL", "PM me for hot dirty fun", or some other kind of pathetic response.

I mean, if I could be an admin or moderator of every single chat site on the internet... I would have no problem IP banning the heck out of everyone... why, to make this simple really... you can't kill someone if you only poke them in the shoulder, you have to actually KILL them.

Or in other words... the only way to stop these kind of things from continuing is to PREVENT them, otherwise... we're just going to have websites like we do now... nobody really chats, people only want to cyber (roleplay), people want to only talk dirty and share perverted stuff.

It's just sad really, I wish I could do more for these websites... but the people already working on them are far too arrogant to fix a problem, and instead are like "nope, I'll let them deal with it."

Like sheesh, you have a chat site that says "teen chat"... but most "teens" there are like 40yr old guys or something.

If only I could fix this problem, what do you think... should chat sites receive a more STRICT policy or something?

******************UPDATE

To be honest, if stricter policies were enforced on the internet... maybe people like us wouldn't have to deal with people like them. Instead, we can actually remove the problems rather than be told "oh, well... they're not doing anything wrong"... and we're all like "they've been spamming -will you kiss me?- for the past 3 hours... how is that not wrong?"

Like come on people, if you are given a job to do... actually do it, stop being a bunch of hard-heads and not giving a dang... cause seriously, I have this urge to just ruin everyone's fun in real life now. If you want people to have no fun online, then we should be able to ruin your fun offline... since after all, revenge is sweet.

Local Mods : Could this be moved to web-splurge or the debate forums, I'm pretty sure it would be more logical to go in there.

SacraRain : As for your topic.
I'm fine with chat-rooms that act as an extension to a site dedicated to other things, such as Vizzed for example. Chat is well moderated...
Sometimes anyway. I think it is more of the fact that you can't do much against chat-rooms I mean, the Internet seems to be untouchable
for the governments of 1st world countries. I mean we've seen so many failed legislation that have something to do with the Internet.

However parents can take acts to protect there kids on line such as block sites, I'm pretty sure fire-fox has a plethora of plug ins to block
certain types of site. One specifically is an add on that blocks Java and adobe on sites unless the user allows it... most of which options
can easily be given parental controls so that the parents know exactly what their kids are up too.

I think the best thing to do is really take control into your own hands, I mean compare this to something similar that is related to children
and their parents. It is up to a parent to decide to let there child watch an 18+ film or play a 18+ game. If they do that then surely they
would at least try to make online browsing safer to children. I mean since when does lectures about Internet safety ever stick in a child's
mild? Rarely. The fact is lectures are not enough as the children will never retain enough of the information. Active moderation of a child's
activities can help keep track and if they do need reminding they can be.

As for the moderation of Chat-rooms. If you weren't already aware, the Internet is global. Meaning people from all areas of the world can
communicate and interact. Meaning even if you had very strict moderators, it would not guarantee that a chat-room would be one-hundred
percent moderated 24 / 7. Plus we all know that moderators can abuse there powers and can be even more harmful to the chat-room than
spammers, flamers and in some cases porn posters. This is the Internet and it is unlikely that it will ever reach a state in which it would be
free of trolls, viruses, dangers and so on. We just have to live in this Utopia called the Internet where nothing can ever be removed.

I will agree it is sad to see the fact that chat sites are used in a way in which they weren't intended for but, creeps and weirdos do as they
please even if it isn't exactly lawful. I mean bringing any type of law onto the Internet has its downsides. I mean for example if they were to
take some lawful action against chat-rooms they would also be pestered to crack down on pirate sites, proxy sites, porn sites and so
much more. I mean seriously. This is the Internet after all were anonymous rule from the dark shadows and kids play club-penguin.

I think in conclusion, nothing can be done against them, I mean they've been a part of the Internet so long that even if they do harbor dark
creeps there are some which are pleasant to go to with chat regulars to greet you. I think the major concern are chats which are either
aimed at children or teens, or those which have video chat such as Chat-roulette. Oh not to mention those annoying chat-tango ones
which just so happens to be almost on every anime site * Insert sigh noise here. *

Yeah like chat rooms don't bother me and sometimes I will eliminate the chat box option when there is a ton of people playing the game because logic will tell you that a lot of people playing the same game with 1 chat box to use, there is going to be an argument. Most of the arguments start off from something really simple and snowball into something more personal and they get violent with there word choice and it brings out the vituperative sense in their nature and they start acting like complete children with what they fight over.

As for banning chat sites, I think it would be an idea to consider mostly because of the usual stuff like stopping people that are perverts and bums that just mess around and only live to start arguments and make things worse in the chat box. I think it is good personally because I am not a part of chatting sites like facebook, twitter or any of that stuff mostly because I know and have heard of the consequences that can follow. Plus I see it as kind of pointless as well since like 90% is probably just random stupid drama, aside from the point, Vizzed is always under constant moderation and some of this stuff happens so quickly that no one really notices. There are, like Sacrarain said a very small percentage of people that actually use that chat box for what it is intended for, to chat with friends or to ask serious questions on how to get help if they are struggling in a game.

But some people use it to talk about their school life or drama or they will go on saying immature stuff not related to the game whatsoever. Some of them use profane language and swear for no reason on the chat box out of frustration and they will do it so often that the game actually freezes up and lags because of all of the incoming posting. If that is all they are going to do is give long annoying drama and start chatting about it, save it for the private messages so the rest can actually enjoy the game without being frozen up, or better yet just don't share drama at all and if they are a close friend just text them or communicate with them in some other way because the extreme chatting isn't needed.

It all comes down to the decisions you make and whether you reply and start WW III in the chat or you can just be the better and more mature person and just not reply at all and resolve the problem. Teachers and things on tv come on all of the time and talk about Internet safety and cyber bullying and how to prevent it and handle it and I guarantee most of us don't handle it as we should. So yeah I think maybe a stricter policy and chatting websites should be taken into consideration and there should be firm restrictions on what is allowed in the chat box, but then again that isn't going to ensure that everyone behaves and follows the rules and regulations. There is usually one person that will act up and continue causing trouble. So the best thing I think we can do for now is be more strict on the chatting and deal out harsh punishments for those who do not wish to cooperate and follow the rules. But yes I do agree that the whole chatting on vizzed has gotten way out of hand in the chat rooms and that something seriously needs to be done to put a stop to it.

SacraRain : you are fully aware Vizzed has a chat room so you would kill Vizzed as well.
I do find the idea to be kinda pathetic.
Entering a chatroom is like going out in public and chatting with strangers.
Anybody can chat with each other everybody does it all the time.

The level of difficulty is the volume of chatting happening on a daily bases.  If there are, as you say, a million chat room websites and 1,000 people are interacting on each one, that's one billion people currently talking.  How do you monitor every conversation?  That's too much for any person to do.

Also, the interactions are so quick, so rapid, people don't have time to react and respond before everyone moves on.

Lastly, people who don't want to be a part of XXX chats weed themselves out.  I know people who quit things like person, omegle, and so on, because there was nothing but naked guys.  Hey, if you don't want to be a part of it, get out of the game and go find somewhere else.

Online is free, it's anonymous, and you can skip quickly between one person and the next.  It's a haven for people looking for a quick thrill.  You can't ban it because these folks will find something else to do to give them that rush.  At least avoid it.  I haven't been on a chat site in forever because I'm not a fan.  I have other friends and it is a non-issue to me.

It's not the fact that chat rooms need to be completely abolished, it's the fact that people need to be aware of the dangers of talking to strangers in chat rooms.  I do understand where you are coming from, but it's just that people need to know that the people that they are talking could potentially be in fact a predator.  If you do not want the risk, then stay away from these sites all together.  Apart from the bad things, chat rooms could also potentially hold good events waiting to happen.  You could meet a new friend, have a nice conversation.  Anything could really happen, even bringing us back to the bad stuff.  It just really narrows it down to that if you don't want to be at risk of meeting up with a predator, just don't go to these sites.  I think people just need to be educated better and have a better understanding of the risks of talking to strangers online.

I think you're a little overacting. If you dislike chatsites, just stay away from them. If a person gets in trouble over a chat room, it's their responsibility. I don't see what's so harming. You can avoid problems like thinking it's a girl at the age of 15 but in reality it's a 40 year old man by only chatting with people you know and trust.

The Internet is awesome and evil at the same time. It can easily get you killed if you are not careful, and it is way to big for humans to maintain satisfactory control of it, with all of the mindless people spawned by the human race.
