So I seen this interesting stuff on the news today about the owner of virgin mobile being close to making it possible for anyone to go up in a shuttle and take a tour of space!

Computerworld -

Virgin Galactic is one flight closer to space tourism, launching its
first rocket-powered flight of a space vehicle earlier Monday.

The company, which is looking to be the world's first commercial airline,
now is in the final phase of vehicle testing after launching Spaceship
Two at 10:02 a.. ET from the Mojave Air and Space Port in Mojave,
Calif.

SpaceShipTwo lifted off aboard its carrier craft, dubbed
WhiteKnightTwo. After 45 minutes and at an altitude of 47,000 feet,
Spaceship Two was released from its carrier and its pilots ignited its
rocket. The rocket engine burned for an expected 16 seconds, propelling
the spacecraft to an altitude of 55,000 feet.

Virgin Galactic reported that during the rocket burn, the spacecraft went supersonic, achieving Mach 1.2.

So my question to you is, would you go? I guess he is going on the first flight and taking all his kids also, so he must be pretty enthusiastic about everything going good. Also, the trip costs $200,000 a person. So price aside would you go? Or if you had the money would you go?

Yes, I love space and I think we as humans could learn so much from it if we explored it. I would go with 1 or 2 of my good friends if I had the money. Not every person has been to outer space before so it could really be an amazing experience to many people. I would totally go mainly because I want to be an astronomer when I grow up, and I just have always found the stars and planets to be so interesting, so an easy yes, I would go regardless of the price. I would definitely take pictures and video of all of it though, even if the gravity doesn't cooperate! Great thread buy the way, and I am glad I am the first person to reply!

Just $200,000 per person? I can actually imagine a lot of people being interested.

I personally would not go because I'm not the adventurous type but I can see the appeal for some people. This would be a once in a lifetime thing.

Well no I would not be interested in space tourism (long term journey) but as far as a short term journey goes(orbiting the earth and going to the moon) I say yes. I say no to a long term journey because I feel there are to many risks to going far out and also a lot of complications with the people I go with and with the shuttle itself. I say yes to a short term journey because I feel there would be less complications and a far greater chance of me coming back alive.

Honestly, I would love to go. But, does it include food, sleeping quarters? How long does it last? You see what I am getting at here? Not not information has been put out to make a decision. Well, for me, at least.

thing1 :

It would be weird if they would make you pay that much for lets say a trip around the orbit and then say they could not afford a few sandwiches at least and make you sleep "outside".

I have an Item on my bucket list. (Ever see the ending to "Moonraker"?)
This News gives me the hope that I might cross it off one day. Thanks for the news.

Good Luck.

I dont know, if you were rich and the opportunity arose would you still think the same? Im not altogether geared up for it, but if the opportunity arose id worry that i would regret it if i didnt grab the chance.
Then again that's my attitude to most things nowadays...

Brigand :
Lol, its like airplanes, once they got you...
Sandwhich?, that will be $50,000.
50,000? Are you crazy?
Well why dont you go to the restaurant next door?oh, wait...

I would imagine that would include everything, but if you can afford 200,000, the last thing id be worried about is the price of a sandwhich. Itd hardly be good for buisiness if they let you starve.

If i was rich i might take that up, on the other hand id feel kind of a d*ick, its a massive waste of energy when there's no scientific purpose behind it.

thenumberone : fair enough, but I still wouldn't risk it. I have a family now and I wouldn't want to risk the trip to space to end up leaving them without a husband/father. If I were single and rich enough I would probably do it.

That would be great to look around up in space, but the only problem is that it's a tiny bit too much to go, and what I mean "tiny bit" I mean like $200,000 too much.

Personally, I wouldn't go because it would take some time to really perfect it and make it safe. There is so much that could go wrong on a flight to space. Plus health issues of the passengers would also be a problem. And then there is price. I'm sure nobody would want to pay 200,000 dollars for an unsafe voyage that could end up killing you. Although in the future, if it was a lot safer (Hell maybe we could have Moon tourism by then) I would love to go to space.
