Come on, don't lie to me: when playing a game, you sometimes get carried away by the music. In my case, it's actually a great part of what makes a good game. The ones with disappointing/sucky music (like Final Fantasy 9 and some other games I can't even remember because they sucked so bad) usually end up being boring.

My all-time favorite is still Final Fantasy 8. Even if it dates back to 1998, the music is as entertaining. Just remember (for those who can!) when you started a new game and saw the waves with Liberi Fatali thundering over. It was such an improvement from Final Fantasy 7.
Final Fantasy 10 comes in close second. There are so many memorable tracks : Brass de Chocobo, Challenge, the Path to Repentance, Another World... they fitted very well with the game.

The 16 bits era had a wide array of good soundtracks : Final Fantasy 6 (the best one of the time), Chrono Trigger, Phantasy Star IV (and its techno-like music: Laughter, Organic Beat, Behind the Circuit, Ooze), the Shining Force series, Sonic, Mario...

So, any memorable soundtracks you want to talk about?

You like the orchestras?
O.K.
You already mentioned Final Fantasy 8 and 6. (My favourite F.F. Soundtracks too.)
How about "Darksiders". (Granted there are parts when it is too over the top. For me it is Funny/Cool.)
Another Orchestra Overdose is "BatMan Arkham Asylum/City".
"Star Wars The Force Unleashed 1-2."
"Indiana Jones and the Emperors Tomb".
There are too many great Sound Tracks for me to list them all.
Modern Music?
"Lolipop Chainsaw". "Saints Row" 1-3. (It fits and makes me laugh. Sue me.)
Cinema Style?
"Metal Gear Solid" 1-4, plus the VR Missions Disk. "Dead To Rights". "Syphon Filter" 1-4. "Ninja Gaiden" Series. And..."007" series (They all Rock. I have no Idea why.)
Guitar Fan?
"Devil May Cry" 1-4. "Brutal Legend". "Bushido Blade" 2. (Chicken Soup For The Soul.)
Anime Syle Music?
"Street Fighter" series. "Star Fox" Works. "MegaMan" Works. "Robotech Battlecry" works. As does "The Zone of the Enders H.D. set." (Don't Judge me its good music.)
Goth Style with a twist?
"Mortal Kombat" series. "Castelvania" Series.
Odd Music.
"Par-rappa the Rapper." (I have no Idea why I like it I do.)

Good Luck To All.
Peace.

For me a lot of great game music I enjoy came from Final Fantasy games, including 9 lol
Besides that, The Legend of Dragoon had a beautiful sound track to accompany it.
When I first heard Ruined Celes from that game, it changed my life when game music is concerned. Such an amazing track.

Actually, the very few memorable tracks from Final Fantasy 9 (Vamo alla Flamenco, Aloha de Chocobo, Sleepless City- Treno) were the only things that kept me playing the game to the end.

I would have to go with the soundtrack for Skies of Arcadia. Not only is it one of my favorite games but is has one of the best soundtracks that I have ever heard, and for coming from the Dreamcast era, I think that its amazing. My second favorite would be the Medal of Honor series. But not the newest two, but from the Gamecube.

If you have a chance though, you should check out Video Games Live. I was lucky enough to be in the area where they had a concert so I went and have a great time. The music is amazing.

I love the soundtracks of many games, mainly the ones in Final Fantasy and Castlevania. However, there are some that stand out. The boss themes in God of War are amazing, and the battle theme in Eternal Sonata (Trusty Bell) is especially memorable. I absolutely adore the soundtrack of Castlevania Lords of Shadow, despite it being a huge departure from the series, and the home territory theme from Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver is especially good.

Yeah I really like the Pokémon song and all of the music you can never forget form all of the games themselves. I also think the final fantasy soundtrack music also isn't bad. I play both of them a lot, but the Pokémon music is just so memorable to me! It is just something you don't forget. Gotta be the very best.... to train them is my call! Pokémon!

I saw another thread like this on another board, but I'll answer this one as well with two:

Tales of Symphonia has a blend of rock music and serious music that I really enjoy. They time the music well and pair it up with the right situations, I think.

Assassin's Creed II's music is just epic. As with Tales of Symphonia, the intensity is right at the right times, but I think the vocals to this soundtrack set it over the top.

For me, it's got to be the Final Fantasy IX soundtrack. IX had some absolutely beautiful tracks on it, the great compositions help set the perfect atmosphere for the whole game. My favourite tracks include By The Sword and Jesters of The Moon

Although not my favourite, the few good tracks I enjoyed from FF9 (Ukulele/Aloha de Chocobo/Vamo Alla Flamenco and Dark City- Treno) are what kept me playing. It also has a few good relaxing tracks (crossing the Knoll, the card game music)

I'd say either the Japanese soundtrack of Sonic CD (US is fine; just not that many memorable tracks) or Jet Set Radio's soundtrack.

Hmm... I would have to say that I love music from the Final Fantasy
games, though, only when they were actually composed by Nobuo
Uematsu, rather than him over seeing the music, as goes for the
Kingdom Hearts series. Other than that, I would have to say that
I love the music from the Castlevania games as well as from the Ys
games.
