Reality TV happened. Mother's around the world went crazy for it, thus, making other shows lose ratings and stop.

Well lets just say all the programs they show today make episodes similar to the past episodes of older programs so I just avoid t.v these days I watch t.v once every month though just to see what is going on.

There's still good shows out there. Catfish is 1 of them. Exposing fake people on the internet? Def a good idea for a show when most of the world is fake.

Mostly I watch shows that's been aired like for a little while, which the show does grow on me pretty much.
But they're a couple shows that looks really interesting to watch, with me, it really depends on the show and the channel.

It got overdone. Everything that used to be awesome has been done over and over again as company after company tries to cash in on what the people want. Not to mention the fact that plenty of tv has simply started marketing to the lowest common denominator.

and the saddest thing is most of these shows are either filled with nobodies acting stupid (Some of OK) or celebrities that were in their prime 2-3 decades ago acting like hot messes. Then half these newer celebrities on the newer shows don't talent acting, but talent in "other" things. Sad truth.

they r running out of ideas.i hate how they r remaking old movies and them sucking. like the new nighmare on elm street and superman. the halloween remakes r ok tho. the new tv shows and cartoons r getting stupider and stupider every year especially the cartoons on nick and cartoon network. i wont watch cartoons unless its old looney toons and old scooby doo. who agrees

Honestly, I have absolutely no idea what happened to all of the good tv shows and stuff that used to be on before. The content of some of the channels is just ridiculously lame and I think that it is steadily getting worse, the content is lame. I only watch shows that are re aired and those are the only good ones. Stuff on Nick, disney and cartoon network I watch very little to none of it now because it is so terrible and not worth watching, They are running out of ideas and shows like spongebob aren't really even that funny anymore, some of it might be every now and then, but it isn't like the older episodes which were hilarious, it isn't the same and it is just going to get worse as they run out of ideas. Also, channels like national geographic or the educational science shows are replaced with more shows about redneck fishing or lame stuff that has little to nothing to do with actual science, it is just awful, I might just stop watching tv altogether soon it has gotten that bad.

To be 100% honest with you I ask my self that all the time. I always ask myself what happened to Television. I miss the old cartoonnetwork, and as much as I don't like Disney Channel I miss the old shows from there to. I am bored of the new, and want to resort back to the old. I wish Pokémon came back on the other 4 generations. I quite enjoyed those a whole bunch. They all seemed so amusing, and I miss them all. Courage the Cowardly dog, teen titans, my gym partners a monkey, Foster's home for imaginary friends, that's so raven, The proud family, Kim possible, ed ed n eddy, etc. I miss all those shows I just listed, and etc means there a lot of old shows I haven't listed as well. Well I guess the only way we can watch it now is through the Internet *sigh* .

MoblinGardens : Yes I agree TV has gotten incredibly lousy with the shows/programs they air now especially when it comes to anime and cartoons. I am disappointed by what airs on Nick and cartoon network lately but anyways the shows I miss are catdog, Invader zim, courage the cowardly dog, static shock, cow and chicken,Mr. meaty meat, Kim Possible, and american dragon jake long, and tons of others believe me my list could go on and on. 

geeogree : I totally agree 100% with waiting a week for the next episode. Right now I'm watching a show presently airing in France that debuts a new episode every Saturday and that is sooo annoying. However, to make matters worse, they decided to stop at episode 19 of a 26 episode season to re-air the first 18 in order(again one episode a week) before moving onto 19 and the final 8 episodes. That means I have to wait at least 3 more months before I get to see anything new.

As for TV going to crap, there are several factors. Biggest one of all is the Internet. Being that people stream shows and watch them on their computers, TV producers feel they have to go out of their way to have shows that are silly or grab your attention immediately rather than being good with a story behind it. That is why Teen Titans GO! is on the air rather than Teen Titans 2003-2006 version(there are other reasons but that is a discussion worthy of its own thread). Second biggest factor is US. We continue to watch their CRAP so they continue to PRODUCE said CRAP. If you don't LIKE it, don't WATCH it. When people don't WATCH it, they get the message and pull the plug.

As a lot of people in the thread have already said, TV has slowly gone down the toilet for the last 8 years or so. Many of the shows they make now are completely pointless and don't immerse the audience like they used to. A good show is one that can wrap you up in it and make you forget about what's around you and the troubles or worries you have, and just allow to get away from your problems for awhile. Whether it be funny or dramatic, it should captivate you, not turn your brain into mush for the next half an hour. Some good shows are still alive, but they are becoming fewer in number. In order for TV to become good again, it needs to get it's creativity back, because they're switching to a production line type style to make the shows faster. They hope that this will get them profit, and sadly somehow it does. What companies should be doing is hiring fresh writers with new ideas, instead of trying to take a template of an old show and slap on a new paint job.

The people who made them became cheep and they wanted to hire the cheaper actors, the bad ones, and they fire there script writers, and they hire fools to write for them. So, that is what happened.

MoblinGardens : Though I can't agree with you that "Lost" was good TV I will say that most good TV shows are gone simply because of time. All shows have to end eventually and after a show ends it slowly becomes less and less watched until people forget about it entirely and it goes off the air because nobody cares to give rating while it's on.

I haven't sat down to watch TV in years and There's a good reason for that. THE INTERNET. I Watch anime mostly so even if I wanted to, I can't really watch the shows i want to on TV. The internet however allows me to watch the shows I want to at any time I wish AND it's legal as well (Save for shows that are japan only and never get licensed or localized in any way).

If you don't mind using the internet to watch shows it's probably for the best to do so. Like it or not eventually everything is gonna end up on here so...... may as well get a head start right?

TheJJ405 : That's all very true. I never watch regular TV anymore, unless it's one of the ghost hunting shows. I mostly use the Internet for watching shows. That was a well spoken post.

Well all the good shows had to come to an end some day so that's why I'll do anything for a DVD, VHS tape or some kind of part of the internet that allows me to watch my favorite old shows when I was young.
