Honestly I disagree with both Guns kill people and Video games kill people, While both might play a role a gun can't make itself and shoot without some sort of human interference (mostly) and aren't Video games made by people too? It seems really thoughtless to dismiss it off as "Video games kill people",  What about the people behind the trigger, And yeah, In some respect guns do kill people, but only kinda, You wouldn't send a soldier in without a weapon would you? That's just throwing away a life.

I really hate it when humans blame their races mistakes on thing that they create in the first place, Does anyone agree with me?

Enjoy your time, You only get so much.

This is a bunch of baloney, the reason why they say that because they “think” video games were the cause of violence, ummm, hello, isn't people been violent way before video games were invented, even before any media related thing was invented.

This is just plain stupid. People hate each other or just want to kill some one, that it why people kill each other, it is not video games. Stupid republicans.

MegaRevolution1 : The reason they're targeting video game stuff like that other than this is just cause they:
A: Not see those things as a big issue
B: Are just bored and want to do something dumb to fix that

Sure, video games can influence, but everyone's smart enough to know they aren't real! They can't take 15 bullets, sit for 20 seconds, then get back up to take 15 more. They know that falling 20 stories DOES hurt, and kill. Those politicians are basically treating the video-game demographic like morons who think that that stuff is indeed real want want it to be, like preschoolers who complain why Big Bird isn't really real.

We're not stupid, we know the risks, and they assume we don't.

Another politician blaming video games? Really? Yeah sure its always the evil newfangled media all the hippie-dippy kids are into now-a-days fault isn't it? Almost all games are violent, even as early as the late 70's and 80's arcades like Donkey Kong: Throwing heavy equipment, animal abuse, Mario DIEING IN A BALL OF FIRE!!! And placing ladies in danger. And Dig Dug: Invade some underground dwellers home and inflate them until they explode. Pacman: Overeating, and tormenting souls. Space invaders: Shoot the aliens because WHY NOT?? And that generation of people did just fine.

Video Games influence people.  But only an idiot would think that playing out deaths in a Game in real life would be fine. Not only video games but every other bit of Media influences people too. But to go as far as to say that "Guns don't kill people, Video Games do" is too much.  I'm sure that no one on this website would kill anyone. It's funny, I could've sworn there was death before video games too...

It's true. The other day, Megaman straight up jumped out of his cartridge and went on a rampage that would make the Protomen say, "Dang, that's dark." It was the craziest thing, I tell you.

It's true that violent video games have been a contributing factor to the desensitization of today's society, but television, movies, and music are no exception from that fact. Being exposed to fictional violence and a plethora of disturbing images (if you're into that sort of thing) does have an effect on you, but it WILL NOT cause anyone to act out on what they see unless they have a preexistent mental condition that impacts their sense of judgement or their emotional stability.

At the same time, I am not a fan of some of the more disturbing forms of entertainment. It seems that more and more TV shows are featuring psychotic serial killers and graphically depicting their acts, putting you in the shoes of both the killer and the victim. Nobody needs to be exposed to that. I believe that suspense stories can be just as easily accomplished without causing an audience that sort of trauma. Things like that are the cause of today's desensitization to violent activity - but, as I said, even such desensitization isn't enough to force anyone to do anything. Most stable minded people are able to differentiate between fiction and what is acceptable in the real world.

its funny, because none of these politicians ever mention the fact that you are taught, in great detail, about the various slaughters humans have committed against one another in the name of god, country, desire for land, or "manifest destiny".  they dont mention these things, because they want to shift the blame away from what they themselves put into mandate. you wanna blame something for killing? blame the person doing the killing. its like the nonsense with charles manson, who never killed anyone, and never told anyone to kill anyone, but was charged and convicted with conspiracy to commit murder.

Did anyone read the part where he said "Video games kill people"?  I didn't read that.  I read a portion where he said video games affect people.  Anyone who does not believe video games have an affect is simply ignoring reality.  Is it positive or negative?  That's for you to decide.

Here are two studies showing video games are a risk factor to aggression and violent action.  No one, including the Senator, said they're the direct cause.  But they could be a link.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/03/130326121605.htm

and

http://seattletimes.com/html/nationworld/2020294832_videoviolencexml.html

Here are a few studies showing video games do not cause any sort of aggression or violent behavior whatsoever.
http://www.webpronews.com/video-games-dont-make-teens-violent-shows-study-2013-08

and

http://ideas.time.com/2011/12/07/video-games-dont-make-kids-violent/

All of these research studies were completed in 2013.  They came from reputable locations, such as Ohio State University, and they show differences.

It's such a nebulous and uncertain debate.  I think allowing children to actively take part in violent activities, even on a Playstation, can have an effect on their decision making skills, especially if they're younger.  More importantly, anger, frustration, jealousy, and other emotions are human and we simply have to teach kids the proper outlets for those emotions.  Going online and shooting people in a video game is acceptable and encouraged if it isn't taken outside and done in real life.

Believe what you want.  Pick a study and stick with it.  But before everyone goes running off and saying this Senator said "Video games kill people," read the article.  Show me that quote if you're going to be so up in arms over this.

Video games also lead to childhood obesity and Type II diabetes.  That's a serious threat to children these days.  That's a bigger problem then gun violence in 'Murica.

warmaker :

its not directly what he is saying, it is his implication. you also have to see the whole video of this to have any form of context.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q7kpwMmmTWw

hes saying that its more important to him to control video games, than to control the flow of illegal immigrants, which are mostly refugees, and controlling guns. guns. because flooding of people from random locations and guns apparently dont effect us.

now while this stance has SOME merit, there in fact does need to be a much stricter control of illegal immigrants and deadly weapons that can turn anybody into a lethal nearly unstoppable unless confronted by the same, killing machine. illegal immigrants suck huge amounts of money from the budget, or more accurately make it easier for corrupt politicians to hide money and where it is being spent. guns are a serious problem, and in all honesty you dont need a gun. ideally, the only people with guns would be military personnel, or even better nobody. but this will not happen because people think they need guns. you have a right to them, but not an obligation to have them.

video games do not lead to violence, obesity, diabetes, or anything else. a persons own decisions lead to everything they do. while factors may effect your judgement, and in children nearly ever factor changes your outlook on life, the fact is that these are all choices. the nonsense about murdering everyone youre taught in school is not a choice, it is mandatory. for that reason, these things have a much larger impact as they are being forced on you, and as a child you generally tend to err towards "this is constantly being told and shown to me. this must be right and what i am supposed to do."

this also makes these things much more responsible for a childs, and therefore later on an adults, actions. as these are the things you are essentially taught are right, by showing that this is how we as humans are, these are in fact causing the children to make terrible decisions, and become violent. in most people it is a subconscious violence. the willingness to hurt when someone tries to hurt you, or to kill if you think your life is in danger. these are the actions of a lower creature, without proper taught capabilities. but you have been told from an early age that you should kill or be killed. that peace can never truly exist, because youre always murdering on creature or an other, or devouring its flesh purely for the flavor.

tl;dr
the only things other than personal choices, that are responsible for actions taken, are the things we teach our children, as these become to stable which houses their thinking skills for most childrens and  adults lives.

I find this ridiculous. I know that games can have some effect on people, for example: Polybius, and Lavender Town Syndrome. But like I said, I find the fact that video games make people violent ridiculous. In reality, it is the human race that is violent. For example, the Romans: they were around for about a thousand years, but they were only at peace twice.

This is incredible stupid. The fact that we are still debating what kills people when its pretty clear already. People kill people not guns or video games. Also some movies and T.V shows are so much worse. If anybody wants to watch an incredible video on this look up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uwAo8lcAC4&list=FLr__056gG1agftc8Ol5Vm7Q&index=23 its a very well made video about this topic

If anybody wants to watch an incredible video on this look up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uwAo8lcAC4&list=FLr__056gG1agftc8Ol5Vm7Q&index=23 its a very well made video about this topic

MegaRevolution1 : I wish to death that life could be that straightforward. The main problem I see is that it is not that easy to control anything on the Black Market. Period. I can't see how banning guns would help with these mass shootings. It has been stated on this thread that the mentally ill tend to be the ones pulling the trigger. What makes you think somebody who has a skewed sense of right and wrong would think twice about purchasing illegal items?
Hey, kids buy illegal items (Herbs) all the time in High School. It could be just as easy to obtain guns on the black market very quickly if they are banned. If anything, it's best they're legal because we have laws and officials who can carry to protect us and enforce the said laws. We currently have multiple laws in place to ensure the credibility of gun buyers. In Florida, most first time gun buyers have a 3 day waiting period. Also, another tidbit I found "It is unlawful for the following persons to own, possess or use any firearm - drug addicts, alcoholics, mental incompetents, and vagrants" along with the background checks. If you ban them, you keep them in the criminal's hands, but out of the hands they were meant for: the citizen protecting himself.

I do think that video games may or may not lead to violent actions but to say that guns don't kill people is the most ridiculous thing that I've ever heard.
