It strikes me that many threads are immediately closed or closed within the first few comments.  What is the rush to close threads?  I don't understand why you wouldn't want people to comment and talk.  If a question is answered, no one else is going to answer it.  Also, if a discussion doesn't make sense or is repeated, how many people will really comment again?

Anyone hunting for Viz are going to find ways to get them.  Reposting and so on doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, does it?

warmaker : threads are closed because either the owner wanted it closed, people haven't posted on it for a very long time, it was a spam thread, the thread broke the rules,  a thread was already created about it, or the answer to the question is already answered in the rules or FA  Q

"Also, if a discussion doesn't make sense or is repeated, how many people will really comment again?"

If given the opportunity? Plenty. Trust me. I've seen it time and time again. People like to piggy-back onto threads that are fully resolved and re-post the same answer or just post some useless spam comment for the sake of upping their post count or something.

I've also seen threads that are several months old and the done with and someone will necropost in it with nothing of value to add.

We close threads when they no longer serve a purpose so that people don't create unnecessary spam in threads.

If the topic creator still needs the thread, he/she can easily PM the mod who closed it (or any mod in that section really) and request it be re-opened. If there's a valid reason for this, we have no problem opening it back up... but usually the only people who want to post in these threads that are quickly closed are people who have nothing to do with the thread.

warmaker : Having been a mod for this site myself I can tell you that when a question is answered it most definitely gets people spamming it again and again. Spam happens a ton around here and if not monitored gets way out of hand due in fact to the large "younger" user base that this site features.

It's hard enough to keep decent threads going around here with intelligent conversation without leaving things open to spammers trying to get Viz.

A lot of these like the RGR help threads...there's not reason to keep them open if the question has already been answered.

Jordanv78 :
I agree with you.... to a point.
The argument that "warmaker" is making is about "what people want to talk about."
If there is interest in a subject. There will be room made for it. (Some fool will figure it out.) When they do... Who are you to decide otherwise other than making a new rule to confound the issue? I think he asks a valid question. I don't require answers. I bend with all the rules here due to the "Minor" issue that is very present. Some require a little more "nudging" before they "see your light." (Hope I'm not being too odd or cryptic.)
Besides that I think a little moderation with all decisions on "who gets cut?" might be in need of availability.
Maybe propose a "3 strikes then you're out" rule. (The thread not the creator.)
We all dislike the world of advertising interrupting our lives for even a few seconds. Why demolish any conversation that might go some where?
I'm just asking in the spirit of what I read.
If I am wrong. then forget everything I said. (This is a moot point for me anyway.)
(Call What I just typed,,, a habit developed from school that I never unlearned.)
Good Luck To All.
I'm done. Stick a fork in me.
Peace.

warmaker : Threads are most often closed because they're dupes, but also because a lot of them are stupid.

Some guy could make a thread called "Why does my dog have spots?". We could all sit and discuss why this guy's dog has spots, but it doesn't make it interesting, valuable, or worth having open for people to spam thoughtless things. A lot of it is up to mod discretion what is spam, likely to be spammed, what has already had threads already made on the same topic, and what is just plain stupid and pointless. I stand behind their decisions, and I don't really think there have been many bad calls on threads being closed prematurely. It's all a matter of opinion, I guess, and the last opinion that gets heard is the moderators if they decide to close it or not.

"Also, if a discussion doesn't make sense or is repeated, how many people will really comment again?"

Also, I've seen people click a subforum and answer the same answer in every relevant thread within 10 minutes on Vizzed, especially in video games, etc. Maybe you've forgotten the main age group of this site. A lot of them just read the name and if we're lucky the original thread, then answer. They don't read anyone else's replies so they can add to them or disagree with them. So it just ends up spammy and repetitive.

I have half a mind to close this out of principle just because of the repetitiveness that's already happened and will no doubt continue to happen. But I guess I'll at least let you respond to see if there's anything else you think necessary to ask about or discuss.

Most of them get spammy. They don't have any good posts in them.
IF people had a conversation in one of them most likely it would get off topic and it would raise their posts by a lot.
Some of them are good, but most aren't.

The newer generation of Vizzed posters pretty much proves the reason why threads are closed fairly quickly. Besides the new staff responds pretty quickly to the summons, the new gen posters do a lot of "I agree to *insert user above* post" or does a bit of rambling. Taken, its been around before, but the habit has grown to this happening daily.

Another reason is because the person is making way too much threads and it becomes spam, also so topic can very identical to others, we can't have any thing illegal, and playgerising.
