Zelda has a lot more variety in gameplay, whereas Mario is just platforming. It is very well done platforming, but still just platforming. And Donkey Kong isn't all that great compared alongside these two, in my opinion. So my answer is Zelda.

I love Mario, but I gotta vote for Zelda here. It's just more fun and replayable in the long run, and there's always so much extra stuff to do. Unlike Mario, who's side-quests are usually just finding hidden worlds.
